  • Helsinki has been hit hard by heavy snowstorm and got the deepest snow cover in Finland (including Lapland). It's not the best time for street walking, so I just jumped into tram No1 to do sightseeing of the winter city. And I'm welcoming you into a virtual tram ride in heavy snowfall with me.
    Hope the music I added let you to chill out during the tram ride.

    2:30 Guy with a red jacket looks a lot like Sebastian Tynkkynen, politician, member of the Parliament. It's also a block away from the Parliament House, so maybe it is him, walking to work.

    In my area it never snows so I love to see snowy landscapes like this. The scenery is even more beautiful with this white blanket. Wonderful Helsinki video 👍

    How was the temperatures, in this time, what was the winter season, please ? Thank you so much 🙏

      @lifebyolia  Před 10 měsíci

      The winter season here lasts from November till March. On the days when it snows heavily like this, it’s not usually very frosty (about from -2 to -5 °C). But sometimes during January and February the temperature can drop to -20 °C

    5:04 ...would that be a tram stuck in snow? Does it happen often? And as a "heavy" snowstorm for Helsinki, how much snow fell?

    • @lifebyolia
      @lifebyolia  Před rokem

      Yes, sometimes it happens when the weather is really bad. I’ve been in such a situation a couple of times for the past three years. But it usually gets fixed very quickly, and public transport in Helsinki works just fine even in winter.
      For a heavy snowstorm, it’s about 10-15 cm per day. In January 2021 we got 40-50 cm for 3 days. Luckily it doesn’t happen very often :)

      @@lifebyolia I'm asking because in our city in Canada they are pushing a very expensive tramway project on the population. A less than 20 km line for more than 4 billion $. They don't listen to the population and a major opposition beside the astronomical price is our weather. It is colder and snows more than Helsinki and we think it's going to cause a lot of trouble for the tram. But they keep pushing it on us saying other cities with snow don't have any problems in the winter with their trams. I'm trying to get as much information as possible from the sources.

    • @lifebyolia
      @lifebyolia  Před rokem +2

      @@growingislife2148 It's terrible that they don’t listen to the population.
      In summer 2021 a new 15 km long tram line was opened in Tampere (a city 150 km north of Helsinki). It cost less than 300 million €. The price includes building a depot area, stops, bridges, lightning etc. So 4 billion $ sounds like a huge amount of money for a small tram line.

    • @growingislife2148
      @growingislife2148 Před rokem

      @@lifebyolia The full price is supposed to be disclosed this month, it might reach 8 billion $ according to some sources...it's a nightmare of lies from their part too.
