    I spent many thousands of dollars on the originals during the 20 or so years when NO company was making any analog synths much less making any reproductions. All the while the whole music world was BEGGING for analog to come back. These old companies finally did get off their asses but decided to charge thousands thereby pricing themselves out of the market for many. Arturia was the first to come up with an affordable synth and people loved it but everyone was still begging for reproductions of the originals and no one would make them. Moog and Dave Smith were still making stuff but they weren't doing a single reproduction. Not one. And their stuff was and is very expensive. FINALLY an arp was made by korg and arp and they did a good job, but they had waited literally decades to take action and give people what they were asking for. Behringer came along shortly after korg did and decided to feed the demand at a great price. Good on them and no I don't feel sorry for any of the companies that are now upset because some other company finally came along and gave people what they wanted. They sat on their asses for actual decades.

The original ARP manual is available for download, so is helpful, but may not show every extra feature Behringer has added. @@JohnTrasher partly correct. The LFO is not syncable to external clock. The S/H output is syncable to an external source however the electronic switch in the S/H section is not. It is always linked to the internal clock. The manual claims it is but it is not, this is the same as the original ARP. The Korg 2600FS manual said the same thing but it was also incorrect.

    Can the Odyssey serve as controller for the 2600? Can Odyssey keys, sequencer, filters, ring modulator, S&H, effects, etc. control the 2600 oscillators? Can 3 oscillators stack with Odyssey's 2 oscillators to get 5 notes? Any other interesting reasons found to put the 2 instruments together in live performance? I have 2 Behringer Odysseys. Any reason to spend another $600 on this? Questions that make me go hmmmm.

    • @maydaygoingdown5602
      @maydaygoingdown5602 Před 3 lety

      You can use the Odyssey to play the notes via 5 pin midi.
      This should in theory allow you to use the Odyssey step sequencer and Arpregiator to control the 2600.
      However I don't think you can control the 2600 S&H using the Odyssey, it may be possible to sync via CV gate etc but not sure.
      You won't be able to control the 2600 fliters etc from the Odyssey.
      It may be possible to route the 2600 audio through the Odyssey though inorder to use the excellent effects found on the Odyssey, if the Odyssey has audio in jacks on the back.
      Just a thought:).
      And yes, you will have the 3 oscillators of the 2600 as well as the 2 of the Odyssey...very fat sound:). However the Odyssey has different filters than the 2600. But yes you have 5 fat notes on each key.

      @@JohnTrasher once again, it appears that you’re willfully missing the point.
      Exhibit A: Uli Behringer privately owns a city in the style of a gilded age Robber Baron. Said city produces nearly all the modern analog transistors, capacitors, resistors, etc for the purposes of synth manufacture in the world.
      Exhibit B: Roland has gone on record stating they would make more analog products if they didn’t have to buy components from Behringer. I really don’t think you need this spelled out a third time.
      In regards to Tom Oberheim: let’s not even try to pretend that Behringer’s business model is anything but trying to eat Roland, Korg, and the ARP family’s lunch. All the while they’ve sold the good people of the synth world on Behringer doing this to be benevolent and bring back inaccessible instruments to the people, whether for reasons of cost or rarity. Hogwash. The UB-Xa project took advantage of the fact that Gibson owned Tom Oberheim’s name and forced him into a non-compete since the late 80’s. Behringer has lifted his design nearly wholesale, as they are wont to do. Now, consider that they’re aiming to release it just months after Gibson legally awarded Tom the rights to his name and company back. I don’t see how Behringer’s release could be seen as anything other than an attempt to undercut the OB-6 market and stall the launch of other collabs with Dave.

No. Do all issues sound the same as each other? No. Is £500 a good price for a very flexible 3 oscillators semi modular synth that can sound great with tweaking and patching? Yes.
