I'm a single mother with 3 children and I'm literally living paycheck to paycheck as soon as the money comes in it goes straight back out. My kids have grown out of their clothes, 2 of them need new beds and my couch which I bought second hand 12 years ago is falling apart. The only way I'm going to be able to afford all that is if I don't pay any of my bills for a few months. I'm one of the lucky ones I know there's people worse off than me so when the whole country is worrying about whether theyre going to be able to afford a home and food this time next year or even sooner, it doesnt surprise me that there's so many people with mental illness.

Also if you are on minimum wage, and you have work for say only 6 days, you are not counted as unemployed for the remaining three weeks of the month, and are expected to live of that 6 days wage for the whole month, with no benefits for the three weeks you are unemployed. I think that the government and individuals should look at the root causes of all the medical conditions that people end up getting PIP for. I am 49 and was only diagnosed with autism about 3 years ago. So now I do receive PIP. My mental health became so bad before I understood what was going on in my head that, although I was working and always had done, I ended up self harming myself by heating up kitchen knives until they were glowing and burning myself. So that the pain would distract from the pain in my head. Plus other physical problems that developed due to my nature of not asking for help.
The majority of the now common mental and physical diseases people suffering from are caused by bad diet. The established dietary advice is all wrong and based on studies paid for by the big food producers. Think back to when, for decades, concerns about the effects of smoking were ignored doe to 'studies' paid for by the tobacco companies....
People need to wake up and realise that business has only got even bigger since then. It has sought to influence and control media and governments with much greater resources to keep people in the dark.

You can't help being mentally ill, there is a lot of shame that goes along with that, also the shame of being unable to hold down a job, shame of having to rely on benefits to survive, and to force people to use vouchers is just sickening. It can be hard enough going out to a shop without having to use a voucher which would make it known that you have a mental illness. That is discrimination.

@@amethystfeathers7324 Next you'll suggest, everytime people get their benefit pay out, they should light a candle and sing koombaya.. People are grateful for the pittance they get on benefits. The question you should be asking, and the most important one is.. "Is work worth it?" And you'll have your answer. When you admit the absolute failure that is The government, immigration policies.. And general incentive to work.
You work for the same amount you would get on benefits, only difference is.. you don't get taxed.. and also you don't do the actual work, and honestly.. looking at the state of the country; shame/pride no longer comes into the equation.

Tax the richest 1% who underpay tax and get high tax breaks. Like scrapping the bottom of the barrel targeting mentally unwell people. Also, it would be discriminatory to give vouchers 'only' to mentally unwell, to be fair even those on all other types of benefits (job seekers etc.) should receive vouchers on the same principal behind the reasoning in this proposal. A law to pass this would face a discriminatory test on this ground. This is poor thinking on the part of govt, perhaps the stress of losing the elections is giving then an episode of mental health stress and anxiety.

Just don't take Mirtazapine - worst drug ever... 'Starts off pretty good; helps you sleep, and stabilizes your circadian rhythm for a maybe a couple of weeks or so; then as the weeks go by, the drowsiness increases, you become intermittently bed bound, can't think, paranoia sets in, you forget to breathe as you're falling asleep, which jolts you upright to force yourself to breath again - just feels like you're dying. And you can't discontinue the course either; you have to start chopping tablets up to ween yourself off them. But by that time, the neurological damage is done. Feels like your brain tissue has melted and hardened into a tough rubber material all around your brainstem after a few months. Your family turns against you because they think you've been taking some heavy shit, the government starts playing games with your money, and then when you're finally down to your last few pennies, they start your money again and pretend that they haven't defrauded you out of your savings.

To say that mental health is not an illness demonstrates profound ignorance or wilfulness. To most people they get by with the ups and downs of life, but some have problems, sometimes serious, requiring clinical therapy to manage.
I consider myself fortunate. I have never had to seek medical advice about my mental health. Woopee boogaloo to me.

My son who is 40 years of age has three mental disabilities. At first glance you may think he is normal but I can assure you he is not and at the age of 16 I was told he would never live a totally independent life. When my husband was alive we both worked hard to get him partially independent but he still needs support in some areas and even now he goes to college for those with learning difficulties and learns what he can to live a more independent life. This year he has been learning about cookery amongst other things for the first time at 40 almost 41 years of age. He is autistic, dyspraxic, and has learning difficulties. All have their problems and I am the only person left who can help him. My own health is poor so I am helping all I can at present, but for how much longer I don't know. He will have to rely on his carers. His Care Manager apparently moved jobs and no one told him.they said they sent a letter but he never received it and no one has been out to see him in the meantime except the carers.
