A short little video essay discussing why I still play Alpha Minecraft after all the years and updates. Let me know if you like this style of video and I'll do some more like it.
Old Minecraft’s world generation, block textures, music, and lighting has this unexplainable charm. I hope going back to the older versions becomes more popularized in 2024
@@Kaktus-xj7sj yeah, also what I’ve always loved are those 2011 2b2t bases, so simplistic yet very nostalgic and ahead of their time, I’ve thought about making a my own 2011 survival base on my own world
Massive draw distances have ruined modern games impression of scale tbh. Limited draw distance lets you focus more on what's near instead of the point you want to get to
I played a bit of Alpha when it came out, and I'm more proud of those builds than my newer stuff. Maybe it was my age, but I really think there is some magic to the old version. I totally agree with you. I have gone back but don't see all the magic like I use to, only the nostalgia of those times.
It's never going to be quiet the same as when you first played but I think there is definitely still a atmosphere and magic that has been lost with the newer versions.
@@Kaktus-xj7sj I wish one day to find a game that gives me the same feeling as when I played Minecraft for the first time... but sadly, I think this era is long gone and will never happen again.
@@Kaktus-xj7sj It's not just that Minecraft is a special game. It came out at the perfect time. Even if a game of this magnitude came out now, it will never have the same feeling because we've long been "out of the zone". Times changes, and they didn't change greatly.
You're right, times have changed and I also think that as well as us changing games like Minecraft are rare and that style of game no longer really exists. 100% agree with being "out of the zone"
I really struggle with the old versions purely because I already struggle with loneliness, and the pure isolation of the old versions really gets to me. I do enjoy them sometimes, though.
I know what you mean but the old versions can also be quiet relaxing to me as they seem more laid back and I normally listen to music when I play which adds some life I guess
I also struggle with loneliness to where I've never played singleplayer before, and even then I like to keep a pet cow or llama to talk to if I can't find anyone.
I remember when I first started playing Minecraft I was so afraid of dying that I built a dirt and cobblestone tunnel system as my home and only way to travel. I ended up building a huge tower into the sky over a pond so I was able to fish without worrying about skeletons. I also filled my tunnels with snow golems to stop mobs. I was like 7 years old at the time, which was 10 years ago now :')
I remember doing something similar :) making tunnels of dirt above ground going to my farm also fully enclosed in dirt. Silly. I also remember getting a lego texture pack lol. I started playing i think 1.3 and boy has the game changed. I remember the huge controversy over the combat update (still not over it)
i spent multiple nights in a 9x9x9 hole in the ground jumping around to pass time during the night. had not found coal yet so i had no sources of light. this was in alpha
Guide to Minecraft Java Edition Alpha and Beta versions for those who want to play: Alpha 1.1.2_01 - Right before the halloween update which added darker grass, pumpkins, and the nether. This version has the lime green grass that some people love. It has some bugs. Beta 1.1_02 - Nearly identical to Alpha 1.2.6 and Beta 1.0 but with bug fixes and a few quality of life changes. Beta 1.2_02 - Identical to Beta 1.1 but with squids, colored wool, birch logs, and cake among other minor things. Beta 1.3 through Beta 1.6 - Beds, dogs, maps, quality of life, smooth lighting, cleaner graphics, new world select, new menu, all kinds of stuff. Version of choice is up to you. Beds don't work properly until Beta 1.4_01. Beta 1.7.3 - A culmination of previous updates with the addition of pistons. Often regarded as the best or most complete Beta version. Beta 1.8 - Added hunger, sprinting, food stacking, new graphics, new terrain generation, and more. This update is much closer to the 1.0 release. This list was made with research from the official Minecraft wiki. For more information about every Java edition version, go to minecraft.wiki/w/Java_Edition_version_history Don't use Fandom.
For me, the main differences between the old versions and the new ones, in terms of survival, are the lack of sprinting, health regeneration, and the inability to stack food. The absence of these three things greatly adds to the hardcore feel. Also, the lack of sprint greatly increases the value of building railroad tracks. And I like the lack of electric railway tracks and the use of the old trolley booster system much more. These things alone make it feel like you're playing a completely different game.
@@masterplane9131 In beta 1.8, when the hunger system was added, It added sprinting. before this, you were stuck walking around like a nerd who lost his glasses.
Minecraft in the old days had that 8-bit feel that made it nostalgic. It wasnt polished but that in particular made it beautiful. Nowadays its so polished the atmosphere feels like any other fantasy game but with blocks
Man, it's really that old music that I love so dearly. So much nostalgia. So much loneliness. So much wonder and thought. There will never be another game as iconic as this in my lifetime.
The graphics and world gen, especially the floating islands, just really feels like “the minecraft”. Having the limited blocks can help too, you can usually tell when something was built pre 1.0.0
For me you really cannot beat Alpha Minecraft. The lighting, the sounds the mood, the danger. Basic but sooo good! I have some really old basic videos of our alpha server from 2010-2011 if your'e interested. Our server is still going strong 13-14 years later which is absolutely insane. Kind of makes me want to set up another Alpha map one day!. Minecraft forever in our hearts ❤
That server must be crazy. Me and some friends had a realm going for about 3-4 years and we built some incredible stuff. Cant imagine what we would have accomplished with 14 years
A really deep video. Minecraft has been a part of our lives for so long that we often forget about the start. No multiplayer, bare blocks, trees, mobs, world. There is beauty in the simplicity. And after all these updates, it’s great to see someone choosing to stick with the old.
One of the things that I really respect about old Minecraft is just how much nicer playing on newer versions feels after going back and getting a good idea of how things played back then. There's definitely something to be said about the "vibe" of old Minecraft, but a couple of years back, I started a release 1.0 world that I gradually updated to newer versions on over time, and it's made me appreciate everything that's been added after like, 2013. Even if you really don't have that much interest in playing Beta or Alpha, I'd seriously suggest at least checking out beta 1.7 and release 1.2.5 for at least a few hours because of just how different they are from now, 1.7 for the old hunger/health mechanics, and 1.2.5 because of how lonely the game felt without a majority of the big structures that exist today.
All this this time and 1.5 remains one of my favorite versions of Minecraft, simply because of memories and the fact I could never update further due to my Xbox never being connected to the internet.
This was on my recommended. Been playing since 2012, I have known about the game since probably like 2010. I'm in my 20's now and haven't played the game in 2 years. If I ever came back, this is the only compelling option for me. You described it exceptionally. Thank you for your informative video. I am glad to listen to another with similar opinions about Minecraft versions as a whole.
Thanks, really appreciate your comment. I did a similar thing where I took a break from the game and now only really play Alpha. It's much easier to go at your own pace and just relax whilst playing
@@Kaktus-xj7sj Agreed. I was so certain there wouldn't be any compelling reason for me to ever return with how disappointing the latest updates have been. I hope more people are blessed with this video in there recommended to remind them that a version of the game is still worth playing; to provide an inclination to may return one day. Thanks again.
That start was so, beautifully nostalgic. I never played minecraft alpha(Just watched videos when younger), but the aura, this thick fog engulfing everything. Thank you dude, thank you
I think I now understand why people still play these versions. I’ve always generally been kind of annoyed at how many people refuse to play newer versions just because of something like combat, the new textures, or other similar things. I never understood why they would throw out all the new variety of blocks to build with just because of one change. It now makes sense in that regard of how simple it used to be, and I shouldn’t judge people for just wanting to play older versions for their uniqueness. Thank you
When you played for hundreds of hours with the old textures the new ones just always feel wrong. People that think like this probably never played the original versions when they were new and they will never understand.
@@elobiretv I have played since 2011 and I am loving my RTX texture packs on the newer bedrock versions.. Makes it a completely different and way better looking and acting game when it comes to lighting.
some people do stay back because of petty things like a single update "breaking" minecraft for them, but personally the game just lost its appeal to me with each update because of the pressure on mojang to make each update make the game grander and grander, which usually comes at the cost of what makes minecraft... well... minecraft
This is making me wanna go back to my 1.7.10 roots, maybe even play some of those ancient mods. I think about them sometimes. I miss them. Even the mods these days are complicated.
Yes dude, i rly like the mc versions 1.7.10 and 1.8.4, they are the sweetspot for me since its still very simplistic, but atleast you got a couple of different structures that are OG and fit the game like sand temples, villages, ocean monuments, etc.
I think the most important bit you mentioned is how minecraft has gotten so many new blocks over the years. Its too complex imo. Limitations breed creativity which is what happens when you're forced to build with the select few blocks in the alpha versions of minecraft. More isnt always better. It can be overwhelming. I can build a simple house made of cobblestone and wood and if I do it in alpha I will feel satisfied and proud, but if I do it in modern minecraft I'm just left thinking that theres so many ways I could have made the house more detailed with all the options that the game offers
ironically I noticed this on tiktok of all things. not long after it became tiktok it was still really barebones, but it was the most fun I've ever had with the app, having to write on a sheet of paper because it didn't have on-screen text and the duet chains because there was just nothing else to do I never played early minecraft, but I completely understand the nostalgia. it's nice minecraft can let you play the old versions
It's not just the blocks, it's the sheer number of things you could be doing at any given time. I don't have the patience to build anything fancy in modern minecraft, i just make something practical that lets me focus on other stuff. All that other stuff is fun, but it's very distracting. In old minecraft you basically have to build, there's not much else you can do. The lack of content lets you focus on the core mechanics. You mine and you craft.
I've never agreed with limitations breeds creativity. I'm a creative person and I work in a creative field. Some of my most impressive works have come from both sides, restrictions and full creative freedom. I've learned that it's not the situation that breeds creativity. But rather, your only limited by your potential. That's not saying anything bad about those with less creative potential. As long as you're creating and enjoying it, it's a good thing.
There was this thing that you cannot explain while playing minecraft back in the old days then, it felt like something that was really different, the charming atmosphere, it really hits you right in there, i can feel it in my chest right now whenever i see these old versions of minecraft, it is something that simply cannot be replicated, doesn't matter whether if you're trying to go back and play the older versions, it is just not in there anymore, but yet.. those memories are still exist, in our heart, the part of the chilhood that will never be forgotten.
i have played minecraft since the classic era when it was so simple and you built for creativity with a very limited block pallet! when multiplayer came it was even crazier! but nothing beats the first few survival tests in indev it was so cool to have such a dangerous world to survive in and build literally anything you wanted with no goal just pure thoughts you had. I have played for 14 years and i still play the newest version often too but nothing beats the old survival in minecraft alpha and beta
This makes me want to cry, I truly miss the legacy Minecraft when I first booted up ps3 back when every block mattered and problem solving was key to survive the harsh environment. I am very inspired by this video but I must admit that I’ll never get back the starter feeling of playing for the first time. For those who are new to Minecraft in 2024, please avoid tutorials and enjoy the time of learning because once it’s gone.. there is no going back, enjoy small projects and enjoy seemingly impossible tasks. Enjoy Minecraft like it was meant to be enjoyed.
Ah yes the "good old days" of minecraft. I remember this. There something about the music and fhe atmosphere that give old minecraft so much life. Good times. Also, fantastic video! I was shocked to not see more views on it! Keep up the great work and I see your channel becoming a huge success 🙌
I wanted to play also the alpha 1.2.3 but if I create / join a world the game crashes. I wanted to ask you what Java version you use for it or if you have a modification. Maybe its an older version or something other that crashes my game.
@@venix5509 I just use the most recent version of java. Sorry I'm not very good with computers so I'm not too sure about any technical problems I'm really sorry
even though i started playing in 1.3.2 I still find myself preferring the alpha and beta versions. The simplicity, the actual challenge of surviving, not having to worry about grinding to netherite right away cuz that's basically expected in the new versions. The older versions are just start a world, play the game. it's such a nice change of pace from how the entire gaming landscape has come to be. I don't care about doing a 100 days hardcore and building mega projects just to show off, gimme a dirt hut and play some C418 and we're good lol
Totally agree the older versions are just simpler and that's why they're great for me. I do think the new Minecraft content is part of the reason the game isn't the same as the developers are catering towards that playstyle
The way to play is just different now, i purchased the game a little bit before they added redstone, me and my friends at the time played for building and exploration, discovering nice world generation spots, connecting our houses with mine carts, that was fun for us. I started playing again in the new versions with younger people, they rush the game, xp farms, most optimal methods to farm anything etc. They play to beat the game, i play to relax. I did the dragon this week for the first time, and only because they dragged me there 😅 With that said i do like the new updates, all the new blocks and world generation.
@@VHS547 100% same, the new versions are good in their own right and I'm sure that people still play them just to relax, however with how much the new updates are leaning more and more into automation and farming every item, I feel like that number is growing smaller. Don't get me wrong, I love the new versions, but from where minecraft came from the game feels closer to Satisfactory or Factorio now than the chill relaxing slow-play of the older versions. It's now less about building whatever you want with the resources you have, it's about grinding on building a ton of farms to automatically get all the items to build more farms so that you have to farm less stuff -_-
@@ArenSpace but thats the thing, i didnt feel the need to rush or automatize anything. I play the game like the end dragon update never existed, and its still possible to enjoy the game for what it is. I think it is more of a metality thing, we are so in a rush to min/max everything, be the best and beat the game that we forget to enjoy it. And for what? A pair of wings? I give more value to the cool blocks and ligths present in the end that one day i migth use for some build. And I understand why people like the wings, i just don't think is worth the rush. I tried for like 5 minutes, but my camel is still n°1
@@VHS547 Yeah the min/max mindset is all over the place, especially since youtube has turned into a "who can be the next mr. beast" competition what with all the cheated 100 days hardcores, tons of challenge runs, etc. I have been seeing more and more small channels return to the OG style of minecraft content tho, just playing the game uncut, minimal editing, just vibing. It's a nice change of pace :D
As much as people disagree with me, Caves and Cliffs completely shattered the game for me. It's too big.. I used to make beautiful cottagecore bases (impossible now) with massive bunkers that took months to build. My horror when I loaded in my world with new generation.. Given I haven't played since the aforementioned update but there was never any innovation, or content to reward players for thinking. (The first thing you learn about game development psychology is that players should be rewarded for innovating and being creative) Everything added can be compared to drawing extra details on 'A Starry Night'. Did they add larger pallete to the painting? No.. They drew some bees, a new boss, (ender dragon has not been developed since its creation) new biomes, turtles, and everything that could've been added with a proper mod workshop. The game is simply drowning under content. Its simplicity fed into how easily complicated it could be. I would've absolutely loved the aether, nothing was missed on the nether update (For some {lack of} creative reason, zombie pigmen were removed?), villages haven't been properly touched in years either (Village spawns are still very ugly at times)... etc. My point being, they did everything wrong when everything that was asking to finish being developed never got finished. They even hired the creator of the aether mod but NEVER added another realm?? In my honest opinion the game is too far from saving and we need and extreme rollback on updates to save it, granted they probably already lost any playerbase that enjoyed the base game. And the fact that I can say base game and everyone knows what I mean. The only real fun people have with this game now are modded servers.
I really miss those old days of MineCraft. The feeling of struggling to tame the world is pretty lost on the newer versions. But I was somewhat young when Alpha was out, so that definitely compounded the difficulty; alongside that, my love is also fairly clouded by nostalgia. All that being said, I don't play MC almost at all these days, but I do know that modern MC bores me. I should load a alpha or beta world and see if that magic exists or if I'm blinded by nostalgia.
i think the real problem is that simply, minecraft doesnt have a really great progression, its all way to grindy and gets boring quickly, its always go back in the mines until you get mending. which takes forever. and once you realize it, probably when you get older, you play other games more. like terraria. or litterally any other survival. or just different genres. or just dont play videogames (boring option)
This brings back the good old days. Been playing minecraft for over a decade so i'd consider myself as an OG. It's nice to see some of the old textures
I started playing in 1.7.10 and about 2 years ago I decided to make a new world on this version. Since then, I was playing on it on and off but still, it is a nice experience
This video has really changed my perspective of old versions of Minecraft. I've decided to start playing it and it's been so much more relaxing, exciting and sometimes even more fun than original Minecraft. Thank you
This was always the golden age. I think it was the time development stagnated while Notch pushed for survival behind the scenes, so it felt like it was around the longest. With maps allowed to constantly be enriched without people wanting to wipe for the latest update, my best creations and memories with friends were in that period.
Playing minecraft alpha, or even beta, feels much like an adventure than the newer versions. I'm not just talking about the uncertainty of the game itself, but even on the internet things are strange. These versions were made more than 10 years ago, what means that some information about the game, some events, some occurrences were lost in blogs and forums. Some of then were found, some still are unknown and some others are lost forever. Nowdays, if something unusual happens on the game, it turns viral almost immediately. So, atleast for me, the reason of why i love these versions, aside from the gameplay, is the feeling of discovery. There were others factors that made minecraft look more authentic back in the days, like the game being made by one guy wanting to have fun with some others guys on the internet. But now, minecraft is in the hands of a multibillionare companie trying to keep the game alive with whatever they can pull-up. So, at this point, is just kind sad. p.s: sorry for my poor english, it's my second language.
Totally agree about the feeling of discovery. I really enjoy discovering things in the old versions for myself which doesn't really happen in the newer versions. Thank you for the comment btw your English is great :)
i have never in my life felt shills of nostalgia quite like your video just gave me... Thank you for making me remember that we can still experience this truly unique game!
i'm not sure why exactly but i really enjoy these kinds of videos, even though i've already watched so many of them. everyone emphasizes different points when saying what they like about old minecraft and it always gets you thinking about why you play it yourself. i should probably make my own video on the topic at some point
Like as a player who has known Minecraft for over a decade now has become very different experience for me like modern Minecraft just feels like a different game to me it doesn't feel the same mostly because of the Caves & Cliffs update. Imo this update ruined Minecraft like I hate the new generation so much like the plans biomes don't look the same as they seem to be way bumpier than they were back before the update came in. Like the new generation of mountains are cool but they do get a little repetitive but when i played the older version of Minecraft specifically alpha & beta i was amazed of how cool the generation is and i was more astonished by the 12 year old generation than i was with the new mountains. It's just because like i said the new generation can get repetitive but with the old alpha and beta ones they come in so much shapes and sizes with crazy floating islands and huge overhangs that just look sick. Another thing about modern Minecraft is that the Minecraft music that plays and say you hear an old music just never fits in but when you play older Minecraft it feels like normal Minecraft. Like what im saying with modern Minecraft is that it feels like Minecraft 2 because the caves and cliffs really changed how generation works forever. Like when 1.14 came out and with the texture revamp really just slowly made Minecraft feel like a whole different game all together.
@@Kaktus-xj7sj Also like somehow Mojang made Minecraft easier because of thecaves and Cliffs. This is because they made it so iron can spawn on mountains exposed and when they are exposed like that you can get full iron on the first Minecraft day because that literally happened with me. I was just in shock how easy it just became because of one update. Like im pretty sure you can beat the game without entering a single cave now which is just ridiculous and you can easily just create a bucket and run to a lava pool and go to the nether in like seconds its just ridiculous man
This is a very interesting take on the game that I’ve never considered, I got bored of regular Minecraft so now I’m playing all the mods 9 so I took the exact opposite direction that you did. Very well put together video
0:23 The first 23 seconds were such a vibe. I turned my volume up to like 100% (with the headphones on) to listen to the ambient music. The significantly louder narration came outta left field and shook my brain lol. Great video though. Borderline ASMR.
To me, alpha may be a bit too early, but I started the game in beta 1.7 and to me, it will always be the definitive version to play on. Sure I followed the game for some odd years, learning it's new content and anticipating more, but as I've gotten older, going back to where it started for me is what I prefer, I even play on render distance low to get that somber gray fog, as my old 2004 computer couldn't run any more than that back in the day
Just having the alpha grace my eyes one more time took me straight back. It makes me so sad. I remember so many moments like yesterday. Just for that you earned a sub for life.
Seeing the builds youve done in the old cave generation literally made me cry with nostalgia, memories of logging onto servers with my older sister back in like 2009, going around and seeing everyones hoises clustered together under a cliff. The terror of encountering a creeper for the first time, the excitement of an iron pickaxe, the awe of a diamond... I am glad people are getting back into alpha, honestly shortly after pistons were added i lost my spark with the game. This video captured a feeling i have been chasing for over a decade... Thank you
I used to play minecraft with my siblings on the same account in the alpha version. We used to build and have awesome adventures and be inspired by so many different ideas, my siblings have all grown up and gotten married and it feels like its just me in my Minecraft world, trying to tens to my gardens, my animals, ride the games, walk in the memories i had made with them. Im not sure if they remember those days, but i love to think about them every now and then, the good old days..
I started with 1.3.2 version and I still remember the world generation and my first home in my first save. I even remember looking to a creeper for a first time behind the door. I was so afraid back then but I just loved exploring the game and mechanics as I play. I started playing with my friends and it became much better. But something happened around 2016. The game wasn't the same anymore, the players weren't the same. Everyone stopped playing the game. It was never the same after that. The game regained it's popularity around 2019-2020. Sure it was sweet to return to this game as an adult. But I just couldn't feel the same way I was playing with my cousin back in the day doing the silly stuff. I still have some old screenshots of me and my cousin's world. Just looking at them feels odd and nostalgic. It might be cliché but one day we said "see you this evening after dinner or tomorrow" and we never logged into that world again. For me, Minecraft represents life itself sometimes. At first, you feel awesome like your childhood, then it starts getting worse as the time goes on and you deny your past, like puberty. Then you remember what was it like back then and sometimes try to recreate those moments but fail, like adulthood. The next step is getting old, which probably will be like remembering what you did and not trying to recreate all of it fearing you might spoil those moments. Thank you Minecraft, for being there when I was growing up.
1.7 was the first version i played on a server with my family and friends, and i continued playing that version for a very long time. it will always carry a special time of my life with it.
I feel like in all this discussion of nostalgia for the old days, which is valid of course and it's brilliant they are still available to us. We have to remember as much as many of us never really stopped playing, a lot of people did and a lot of the changes made have brought the community back to life.
I’m glad Minecraft has fully accessible legacy editions so that the select few people who prefer alpha can just play alpha instead of whining nonstop about how much they miss the old times. It really clears my conscious for vastly preferring modern Minecraft.
Very well said, most people prefer newer versions, some prefer old, and i can't really decide. I think my favorite would have to be in the middle, as i grew up with xbox 360 minecraft. it continues to amaze me how little has changed and how simple it can really be.
I'm definitely in the middle as well. The update that I really don't like is Caves and Cliffs. I really liked the underground terrain generation with small cave systems and occasional ravines much better. It was a nice dichotomy between that and the above ground world.
I have to say that this brought so much nostalgia to me… I just want to be child again, to experience the game for the first time again, and also meeting those people i played with although I never really met them.. strong video man..
recently some videos pop out to my CZcams home page and all those video told me to take everything slow in minecraft and i did it . After a really long time i was enjoying Minecraft like i used to, not rushing to everything not building complex farms ,just enjoying playing minecraft. I glad videos like these came to me.
It's a shame, lots of old games have such great atmosphere's which a lot of new games seem to be lacking. They all kinda feel the same but personally I thought Elden Ring did a great job with atmosphere
I like old white light, old textures, old sounds, old resource and difficulty balance, and eerie aesthetic of the game. Honestly, I don't believe it's just a nostalgia, it's different tastes.
U nailed the exact description of the feeling we all had when Minecraft started its legendary run. The music, the adventure, atmosphere, vulnerability. It was all so much more present in the game. Nowadays the game feels too easy tbh. I quickly get bored whenever i finished building my house or even before. Almost every item/ block in the game is easily obtainable without any serious risk of losing progress. Old minecraft was a challenge, a challenge i will always remember and cherish for i had the luck of growing up with that version.
I 100% agree with this video, but I DO value some aspects of the newer updates. Not ALL the new updates, just some of the ones succeeding Alpha. It makes the world feel a LITTLE less lonely, and adds a LITTLE more variety, making the game a LITTLE more immersive. The lonesome melancholy of the first versions is a little chilling, and like that the following updates added some more 'life' (while retaining the liminal space aspect). But yeah, as cool as the caves update was for deepening the underground and expanding on the "mining" aspect of the game.....I agree that there is now too much fluff in Minecraft. It's becoming oversaturated and is losing its core essence. The newer versions are no longer what the game was. World's are bustling and progressing is made far too convenient. I totally understand the feeling.
Great comment, there are definitely great things in the newer updates and I do play them sometimes. Also I guess for me personally I like the idea of being completely alone in the world so Alpha works great for me
As a veteran player who started playing Minecraft about 11 years ago in 1.0, I remember the simplicity and I remember surviving against the mobs in my dirt hut, the exact layout of the dirt hut that I survived in, this world is in the modern era but whenever anyone joins the server I tell them DO NOT TOUCH THE DIRT HUT!
I remember reading an article about the web version before the Java version was released and playing it for an hour or so. Then watching the progression after launch from adding bed and multiplayer to the nether (around when I stopped playing regularly).
This is pure nostalgia, I still remember my first world when it first hit night and I cowered away in my dirt shack oh how time flies its insane this game will forever be in my heart
Fuck, watching this made my chest ache. I have a weird problem with liminal/lonely feelings, especially with music. It’s why I can’t bring myself to play in single player, even in new versions. I know the music is beautiful, but it almost hurts to listen to; I can’t stand it. I envy people who can sit in the stillness and enjoy these things.
Ngl as a builder and a long time player, as good as I am now, it’s never been as fun as way back when I started playing. I wasn’t really concerned about how bad my palettes were. I didn’t notice how ugly some of the blocks were. I just had fun. I mean I still have fun now, it’s just I mainly work on massive build projects that are more like work than anything else.
I’m so glad many people share how I feel about Minecraft these days. The game feels too… cluttered now, like the beautiful simplicity of it allowed for so much creativity because it drove you to innovate, not gave you the tools to fix anything you’d want to. It’s a comfort knowing so many like playing the older versions. Even the music sent me into a nostalgia trip while the video was playing. Thank you for uploading this
I feel like something big is going to happen in the minecraft community now that the older versions are becoming more popular and the need to play with some friends in a simple way becomes more frequent in players... I also wonder if I might have some sort of play in that "something big"... I've had an idea for a new minecraft server idea but I just... I don't have the motivation for that let alone basically anything in my actual li- I mean hey great vid man!
Nice video. I've played Minecraft on and off over the years but usually I'd play for a bit, see the new features, then get bored. I recently started playing Beta 1.7.3 and I've been hooked for a good while now. Going back to the core mechanics without all the distracting random features and structures and fluff has been a breath of fresh air. I really enjoy the old terrain generation and lack of villagers most all. I've decided I really really don't like the villagers and I wish they had never been added to the game.
What a great and short take I love the older versions because of the OST the simplicity, less mobs limited map yet almost infinite ravines it is endless fun and I loved completing my survival with the older versions
I think if they changed the upbeat graphics and atmosphere kinda back to the alpha vibe then the new version would be perfect. Less structures would be great. I like the huge mountains in the jagged peaks biome but plains and other biomes should be flat like real life, I hate needing a stack of dirt and parkour skills to get to the top of a grass field where I can’t see the river below. The new stuff is great but should be rare and not everywhere. Add back some classic caves, not every one has to be a huge cavern.
It’s probably the nostalgia for me, but I’ve actually enjoyed playing the PS3 version of the game more than the latest version. Those texture mashups and mini games were the shit.
Ahhh man, I miss the old Minecraft! I remember buying it with my very first paycheck in April of 2011. Almost 13 years ago! How time flies! Great video!
This video made me remember my old creative world I created when I was first gifted Minecraft. The little things tend to stay around in memory. For example, my silly builds could no longer be repaired because an update made it so ladders couldn’t be placed on glowstone anymore. I think I remedied that issue by replacing some of them with vines. When pistons were added, I spent a lot of time making inefficient piston doors leading to blocky bases made entirely of iron blocks. I was also strangely fascinated by the addition of emerald blocks, and made some ornate structures out of them for no reason in particular. I also remember opening my world to LAN at the request of my older brother, who went and griefed many of the things I had built. Those kinds of emotions linger for a while. Even today, I’m not sure if I’m completely over it. Nostalgia is a really powerful thing, and it’s also different for each person. That’s what makes it beautiful, too.
I just stumbled across this video randomly in my feed. I’m not gonna lie I’m having a very very tough time with my mental health for what I can recall the first time ever in my life. Minecraft is a game I love and have loved in my childhood. Seeing this video for some reason with its classic music, and nostalgic energy is really helping me feel okay for whatever reason. So this may not be the type of comment you’d expect on your video but I just wanted to comment to say thanks for making this video. Bc right now in this moment it’s really helping me out & I don’t know why exactly. Earned a sub here & I look forward to watching more of your vids in the future!
It's so nostalgic looking back on Alpha. Growing up i always felt like the Minecraft versions i played were fun but they were lacking in other aspects. When Alpha screenshot videos started to fill my feed the past year i instantly knew what was missing. The limitations, the atmosphere, the art style. I still to this day can't watch Captainsparklez' TNT music video without getting sad. That whole era of my life was special.
This is going to sound silly, but i appreciate this video way more than i should, i dont know how but i cant play modern minecraft without ending being confused for hours. I love to play old old versions but feel this empty feeling because i think people moved on. Your determination is actually helpful cuz i just haven't played the game now because im so overwhelmed with it.
@@Kaktus-xj7sj yes I agree, but I'm new to Minecraft completely, the last time I "played" it was 2013 when kids use to watch Stampy and dan tdm videos 😂. I have tried to play it on and off but it's been futile so far since like I said, very confusing with all the new updates.
The atmosphere cannot be replicated. You have a great feeling of loneliness in the world but it also feels like you're a survivalist.

I feel like the fog in the old version adds a lot more atmosphere and mystery than the current minecraft
They should add the fog as a weather element. Sometimes it's nice to see far but the fog also adds a nice atmosphere.

Guide to Minecraft Java Edition Alpha and Beta versions for those who want to play:
Alpha 1.1.2_01 - Right before the halloween update which added darker grass, pumpkins, and the nether.
For more information about every Java edition version, go to minecraft.wiki/w/Java_Edition_version_history

These things alone make it feel like you're playing a completely different game.
aren't you able to sprint in old versions by double tapping W?

Minecraft in the old days had that 8-bit feel that made it nostalgic. It wasnt polished but that in particular made it beautiful. Nowadays its so polished the atmosphere feels like any other fantasy game but with blocks

The old music is literally still there in the latest version
Cant imagine what we would have accomplished with 14 years
I'd love to see those videos.
A really deep video. Minecraft has been a part of our lives for so long that we often forget about the start. No multiplayer, bare blocks, trees, mobs, world. There is beauty in the simplicity. And after all these updates, it’s great to see someone choosing to stick with the old.
Glad you enjoyed the video
Great comment :) I didn't play to play in alpha but I decided to check it out and then just liked it enough to continue to play in it
All this this time and 1.5 remains one of my favorite versions of Minecraft, simply because of memories and the fact I could never update further due to my Xbox never being connected to the internet.

Thank you
Glad you liked the video and that I could help :) Maybe give the old versions a try if you want you might like them!

some people do stay back because of petty things like a single update "breaking" minecraft for them, but personally the game just lost its appeal to me with each update because of the pressure on mojang to make each update make the game grander and grander, which usually comes at the cost of what makes minecraft... well...
I can build a simple house made of cobblestone and wood and if I do it in alpha I will feel satisfied and proud, but if I do it in modern minecraft I'm just left thinking that theres so many ways I could have made the house more detailed with all the options that the game offers
ironically I noticed this on tiktok of all things. not long after it became tiktok it was still really barebones, but it was the most fun I've ever had with the app, having to write on a sheet of paper because it didn't have on-screen text and the duet chains because there was just nothing else to do
I never played early minecraft, but I completely understand the nostalgia. it's nice minecraft can let you play the old versions
Except it's not over whelming. Want over whelming? Try mods.
@@coldbrew6104 What an incredible argument. "Simplicity isnt valuable because theres mods that are even more complex." Genius
I have played for 14 years and i still play the newest version often too but nothing beats the old survival in minecraft alpha and beta
i miss minecraft classic multiplayer, the lava survival servers were fun
they really were just golden servers the best sandbox you could imagine at the time :)@@millionare5446

even though i started playing in 1.3.2 I still find myself preferring the alpha and beta versions.
I did the dragon this week for the first time, and only because they dragged me there 😅
With that said i do like the new updates, all the new blocks and world generation.
This has got to be hands down the best video I e seen in a while. Brings back so many memories from when me and my friends would play beta, fun times,
As much as people disagree with me, Caves and Cliffs completely shattered the game for me.
For me I still enjoyed it after the initial nostalgia faded but you have to see for yourself. Have fun!
i think the real problem is that simply, minecraft doesnt have a really great progression, its all way to grindy and gets boring quickly, its always go back in the mines until you get mending. which takes forever. and once you realize it, probably when you get older, you play other games more. like terraria.
or litterally any other survival. or just different genres. or just dont play videogames (boring option)

This was always the golden age. I think it was the time development stagnated while Notch pushed for survival behind the scenes, so it felt like it was around the longest.
With maps allowed to constantly be enriched without people wanting to wipe for the latest update, my best creations and memories with friends were in that period.
Its crazy how much of an impact this 3 and half a minute video has
Playing minecraft alpha, or even beta, feels much like an adventure than the newer versions.
Thank you for the comment btw your English is great :)

i'm not sure why exactly but i really enjoy these kinds of videos, even though i've already watched so many of them. everyone emphasizes different points when saying what they like about old minecraft and it always gets you thinking about why you play it yourself.

You totally should make your own video!
Like when 1.14 came out and with the texture revamp really just slowly made Minecraft feel like a whole different game all together.
it definitely feels like a different game now and yeah the old world generation is better in my opinion
Like im pretty sure you can beat the game without entering a single cave now which is just ridiculous and you can easily just create a bucket and run to a lava pool and go to the nether in like seconds its just ridiculous man
I really enjoyed your video, very nostalgic. Takes me back to the old days…
Sorry about the voiceover jump scare!
To me, alpha may be a bit too early, but I started the game in beta 1.7 and to me, it will always be the definitive version to play on. Sure I followed the game for some odd years, learning it's new content and anticipating more, but as I've gotten older, going back to where it started for me is what I prefer, I even play on render distance low to get that somber gray fog, as my old 2004 computer couldn't run any more than that back in the day
Beta is a good mix of content I think without having too much. Totally agree about the fog, the old fog is so great and atmospheric
Thats my favorite version
Just having the alpha grace my eyes one more time took me straight back. It makes me so sad. I remember so many moments like yesterday. Just for that you earned a sub for life.
Great video man!
We starting 2024 off with some massive nostalgia
lol
Seeing the builds youve done in the old cave generation literally made me cry with nostalgia, memories of logging onto servers with my older sister back in like 2009, going around and seeing everyones hoises clustered together under a cliff.
The terror of encountering a creeper for the first time, the excitement of an iron pickaxe, the awe of a diamond...
I am glad people are getting back into alpha, honestly shortly after pistons were added i lost my spark with the game.
This video captured a feeling i have been chasing for over a decade... Thank you
I'm really happy you liked the video :) I wanted to appreciate those first memories we all made with the game again
You have a very calming voice
thank you :)
Dude literally decided to live off the grid but in Minecraft
Same, hopefully they never get rid of the old versions because I'm so glad anyone can still play them
Unfortunately as a switch player, the legacy is no longer available to play even tho it was way more optimized then bedrock 😢
@@Jonny312. It is if you had it before Bedrock's release on the console.
Why would you say you love this out loud. Now it's going to be removed.
@@dr.julianbashir9193 They can't remove it. The old files are all out there
Very well said, most people prefer newer versions, some prefer old, and i can't really decide. I think my favorite would have to be in the middle, as i grew up with xbox 360 minecraft. it continues to amaze me how little has changed and how simple it can really be.
In the end it's just about your personal play style and in which version you have the most fun
@@Kaktus-xj7sj true
This is the exact same reason i play Far Cry 2. I like 3 (and 5 kinda), but Far Cry 2's world atmosphere was never recaptured in a later game.
Totally agree, nostalgia is apart of it but the slower style and old graphics have kept my playing
Great video, right in the nostalgia.
Also I guess for me personally I like the idea of being completely alone in the world so Alpha works great for me
I love the way people build on these old versions.
Great job with this video brother.
Just watching you play the old version made me so nostalgic for the simple game we once played.
As a veteran player who started playing Minecraft about 11 years ago in 1.0, I remember the simplicity and I remember surviving against the mobs in my dirt hut, the exact layout of the dirt hut that I survived in, this world is in the modern era but whenever anyone joins the server I tell them DO NOT TOUCH THE DIRT HUT!
back it up just in case
I remember reading an article about the web version before the Java version was released and playing it for an hour or so. Then watching the progression after launch from adding bed and multiplayer to the nether (around when I stopped playing regularly).
I literally cried of nostalgia
This felt eerie... I haven't got the words to describe it
This is pure nostalgia, I still remember my first world when it first hit night and I cowered away in my dirt shack oh how time flies its insane this game will forever be in my heart
Thank you for uploading this
This reminded me of an old minecraft alpha world i played through in about 2014, lost to time and a computer wipe my world lives barely in my memory.
Glad you're enjoying beta 1.7.3. I'm not a fan of villagers either and I'm happy they decided to nerf them recently
What a great and short take I love the older versions because of the OST the simplicity, less mobs limited map yet almost infinite ravines it is endless fun and I loved completing my survival with the older versions
Playing Minecraft for the very first time in Alpha, unlocked something in our brains, and we never turned back
Alpha days were sure our prime days now Minecraft is good but doesn't have that magic in it
Yeah I agree, I like the new versions but the old versions are just better imo
I think if they changed the upbeat graphics and atmosphere kinda back to the alpha vibe then the new version would be perfect. Less structures would be great. I like the huge mountains in the jagged peaks biome but plains and other biomes should be flat like real life, I hate needing a stack of dirt and parkour skills to get to the top of a grass field where I can’t see the river below. The new stuff is great but should be rare and not everywhere. Add back some classic caves, not every one has to be a huge cavern.
Agreed, they should totally try and bring back more of the old atmosphere and I'm not a big fan of the new caves either
you made me smile and cry on this video thank you :)
This is genuinely a good video.
It’s probably the nostalgia for me, but I’ve actually enjoyed playing the PS3 version of the game more than the latest version. Those texture mashups and mini games were the shit.
the PS3 version was so good!
@@Kaktus-xj7sj I swear dude, inventory management was just perfect before Bedrock came out and took a huge dump all over it.
@@TheOofaloofa it gets worse every update as well since they add new items without ever fixing the inventory issue
@@Kaktus-xj7sj And then add Education Edition support for absolutely 0 zero reason because nobody wanted it.
This version was always my favorite. So much nostalgia
Congrats! you let pixels in the form of a hot latina ruin your day!

Ahhh man, I miss the old Minecraft! I remember buying it with my very first paycheck in April of 2011. Almost 13 years ago! How time flies! Great video!
This is awesome man. Well done. I love the older versions of the game so so much.
No way! So cool you saw my video and glad you liked it :)
Thanks so much for this comment I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and I know it can be tough sometimes. I really hope you feel better :)
Glad you liked it, sometimes you can just get burnt out from any game but hopefully you get some motivation to play again :)
