They could've gotten Trubisky at #3 without trading away anything. No way the Niners were picking him. Made zero sense even at the time. Niners fleeced them.

I mean yeah, if Chicago didn't go for Trubisky and the Browns took Trubisky they'd probably of not went for Mayfield the next year which means Darnold would still get taken by the Jets but the Bills would've taken Mayfield, Cardinals would've stuck with Rosen, Ravens would've chosen Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson would've fallen to the second round possibly to the San Francisco 49ers which means Jimmy G would likely be traded a year later to the Cincinnati Bengals which would mean that the Dolphins would've gotten Burrow, Chargers would've gotten Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert would've probably fallen to the Pittsburgh Steelers. If he fail to the Steelers this means that Chase Claypool would have been selected to the Packers and Kenny Pickett would've likely fallen to the Carolina Panthers which means Matt Corral and Baker Mayfield both would go to different teams. There's just so much that could change with one single pick. Without Jimmy G, Seattle might've won their division in 2019 and played against the Chiefs in the super bowl. Had the Chiefs not traded for Mahomes, the Saints would have Mahomes and Brees would likely be traded to another team, most likely the 49ers which means Jimmy G would not be there and would likely stay with the Patriots until Brady left for the Bucs which means that Mac Jones would've fallen to the Pittsburgh Steelers. There's just so much that could change with one little decision.

This was a genius draft by Cleveland! They get Garrett. They trade with the Texans to get extra picks knowing that they would eventually get Watson “after” his transgressions and when he’s matured (hopefully) to become their long term franchise QB.

Honestly the Browns, Jets, Chargers, and Panthers deserve a pass. The Browns don't regret picking Myles Garrett, while the Chargers just extended Mike Williamms on top of already having Rivers at the time. Christian Mcaffrey is a stud, and trading Jamal Adams landed the Jets some decent picks.

Browns shouldn’t have moved down, and instead take Deshaun here, probably not getting pick 1 with Watson instead of Kizer (who they took 2nd round this draft) still come away with Denzel award likely the next year, then in the second they can get Golladay, Jonnu Smith, or Kamara (they do get Chubb the next year)

I know we talk about how the Bears blew it with trading up for Mitch, but Thomas, Fournette, Davis, Adams, and John Ross were all top 10 picks that aren’t on there original team with only the Jets getting much of anything for letting them go. 49ers would have potentially 2 Superbowls if they had picked Watson, but no one seems to mention it.

I think the most impressive thing is the chiefs resisting moving up earlier (eg trading up to the titans pick 5) and holding their nerve to get Mahomes at 10
To be fair to Bears fans, they reacted the right way to the Trubisky pick. If anything they weren't mad enough.

The Saints had one of the best single team drafts of all time in 2017, and there are so many stars drafted in that draft. I put this one up there with 2011 and 1983

The cornerbacks were an underrated part of the 1st round in 2017! Marshon Lattimore, Marlon Humphrey, Tre White combined have 9 Pro Bowls between them and Adoree Jackson has had a solid career so far. 👍

Chiefs fan here, remember watching this draft and telling everyone we did it, we traded up to get Deshaun. At the time I had never seen Pat play, and had little reason to trust the chiefs front office, so it hardly felt lucky

As a chiefs fan I have to say you probably would have. Mahomes carried the worst defense of the decade to the afc championship and was a horrendous offsides penalty away from making the superbowl. I can only pray for the day mahomes has a top 10 defense.

Two nights before the draft I was dining at steakhouse outside of Denver , when John Elway was exiting the restaurant and paused at the front entrance for his other guests to follow. It provided me the opportunity to introduce myself and maybe ask him about the upcoming draft. He was polite and we talked for a bit before asking him what quarterback he thought was intriguing in the draft.
He smiled and said " I really Patrick...watched him many times " I wished he liked enough to move up that draft to get him.

49ers got two midrounders from the bears for the second pick. They later traded one of them to the saints. Saints drafted Alvin kamara with that pick. The 49ers with their other pick drafted Fred Warner. As a saints fan thank you bears.

TJ is 100% the best defender from this class and arguably the best in the entire league outside of Donald. But like I said I think Garrett is good but these guys are on another level
