- On Thursday, March 29, students at Thomas Aquinas College were treated to an hour-long question-and-answer session with a visitor who is widely considered among the world's greatest living actors, Sir Anthony Hopkins.
"I feel very privileged to be in such a place," he told the students. "I've never seen such a beautiful place in my life. It's most amazing. It's like Shangri-La!"

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Thomas Aquinas College has developed a solid reputation for academic excellence in the United States and abroad. At Thomas Aquinas College, there are no majors, no minors, or electives because all students acquire a broad and fully integrated liberal education. The College offers one 4-year, classical curriculum that spans the major arts and sciences. Instead of reading textbooks, students read the original works of the greatest thinkers in Western civilization - the great books - in all the major disciplines: mathematics, natural science, literature, philosophy, and theology.
Rather than listening to lectures, they engage in rigorous Socratic discussions about these works in classes of 15-18 students. The academic life of the college is conducted under the light of the Catholic faith and flourishes within a close-knit community, supported by a vibrant spiritual life. Genuinely committed to upholding civic virtue and leading lives dedicated to the good of others, Thomas Aquinas College graduates enter a wide array of fields where they are a powerful force for good in the Church and in the culture. Well-versed in rational discourse, they become leaders in education, law, medicine, journalism, public policy, military service, and business. In addition, a steady 10% of alumni go on to the priesthood or religious life.
Mr. Hopkins could read the ingredients on a candy bar wrapper, and make it Oscar worthy! What a beautiful man!
My all time favorite actor. Brilliant humility
Watch him on Westworld. His acting is phenomenal.
How incredibly lucky those students were to be in the presence of greatness.....a great actor, philanthropist, a humble man with no pretense...wish I were there. Thanks very much for posting this...
It is so respectful of Sir Hopkins at the moment of prayer he clasped his hands together. Bless his heart.
well, he may not be a believer but he respects other people's beliefs...the sign of a true gentleman and professional..brilliant talent
He is a true gentleman and he happens to be an excellent actor as well. Bless his heart..
ma onorato He is a believer.
He is agnostic.
He´s an atheist. (You can`t be a believer after you have played Hamlet once...) The only somewhat religion he believes in is AA.
He's a painter, actor and musician, a true artist.
+Judas Iscariot ...and a composer and has directed one play that I know of and a great actor and a gentleman. And the list may go on.
*Hey Tony! Loose weight or ask you stylist for advice! I am also slightly obese - notice the light grey H&M pullover. It works! Right?* czcams.com/video/Iok3TOsmq_s/video.html
...Composer and director. What a combination of talent and gift!
Still another out of touch celebrity.

When Sir Anthony speaks give him a proper microfone dammit
Sir tony it's so great wise actor and very handsome. Corina annwyl
@Stacy Caruso why the fuck not? They are just words.
PA.
it is unbelievable.
He’s an agnostic and prayed with them, that’s real respect, that’s how a real man does it....
He showed respect for their prayer
@@CrankyGrandma If people around you are praying, and then you proceed to bow your head and assume the posture of prayer, chances are, you too are praying. He may not be addressing God, so he’s not doing prayer properly, but he’s participating in a communal religious act and has respect for it, regardless if it’s what he believes
Cuck
Enjoyed Sir Anthony's attitude of prayer.
He was respectful
I always say I would pay to just listen to this man read the dictionary. He is a real hero of mine. Elegance personified.
It's interesting to hear Sir Anthony talk with such reverence about the likes of Brando, Dean, Bogart, Tracey, etc, and it doesn't seem to occur to him that he is very much in their league.
the way he tried to hug the host at the end shows his humility...also loved the way he tried to get a peek into his gift hamper...so humble, natural and down to earth...love him
I was at a stop light on Sunset Boulevard once, and he was in a convertible in the lane next to me. As he describes you could see his wonder and joy looking around at the sunshine 🌞
what a moment.
Mr. Hopkins is truly that singular artist that loves his audience. The fact he wished to speak to this group of Christian students is such a giving and loving act. Those in the room were bested with a glimpse of brilliance and humility. This man is loved and admired.
at 20:33, a student asks how to make Shakespeare sound natural, or even if you should try. Hopkins answers with grace and a demonstration.
What an absolute treasure!! Spent the entire time clapping for him. Sir Anthony, you are the greatest actor in existence.
He is one of my favorite people/actors it seems this was his first oscar? That's weird I really like his performance in westworld
It's crazy how he's just pontificating about himself from 35 minute mark onward and we are happy to listen... hundreds of people in the room are happy to listen to him muse...
We all know ourselves best.
He's so endearing sometimes. I keep feeling like he's just above from us, deigning to tell us his story... or imparting lessons... maybe that's more of a reflection on my current state of mind than what is truth, though.
What a pro and a gentleman. Wish he could be here forever
We care because he won't be.
Such a sincere and wonderful person. I could listen to him for hours.
Did you know that Sir Anthony Hopkins gave 1 MILLION POUNDS of his own money to the mountain of Snowdonia in Wales to preserve it or something similar to that, what a great man to give that much of his own money to protect a famous mountain in Wales.
A very generous man and very humble and above all a true british gentleman
Snowdonia is a beautiful area indeed and I admire Hopkins very much.
What a waste of money. A lot of people could have been helped if he instead spent that money on helping humans
Sir Anthony financially supports and volunteers at a Homeless Mission in LA.He counsels other recovering alcoholics. He is a humble, compassionate, caring human being with a wonderful,self-effacing sense of humor.💙
If you have the wealth, you should give it to those causes you believe in. He makes it pretty obvious he believes in life and not what lies thereafter.
@@tvremote1234 Fu. He can do what the fuck he wants with HIS money.
That is the happiness in life everyone should want to reach. What a beautiful man he is. To be so humble, and so at peace, when he said he was younger and didn't fit in, to finding himself and becoming who he is. Such an inspiration
I have watched Anthony Hopkins since the 1970s. I'm an English teacher and I understand the love of the lines of Shakespeare, and very few other actors understand and can deliver the lines that Shakespeare wrote like Sir Anthony. He's an amazing interpreter of Shakespeare....he has a love of words and an understanding of how to deliver those beautiful lines like few others. He must take himself seriously because few others can deliver those lovely lines with such eloquence that he can. Shakespeare speaks to us with such amazing language that only a few have the talent to deliver to the masses. And Sir Anthony is one of them. God bless.
you must have enjoyed his starring in 'king lear' in 2018?
Oh the sheer panic and terror of standing naked in front of an audience with a complete absence of useful props and a methodically rehearsed script. Not to mention a useless carrot stick for a mic!! Oh my! An actor's worse nightmare made deliciously good. Beautiful adaptability showcasing a true master at work truly captivating the stage. That was in my personal opinion the best interview/ Q&A on line of Sir Anthony. Flowed with a random nature of sheer uncertainty and unpredictability. Lucky students indeed.
Sir Anthony is the actor of our time. no one alive can match him for his persona on screen.
hannibal lecture is amongst the best ever acted characters. but my God he is good as Dr. ford in westworld! true gentlemen ☺
I love him the most as James Stevens
@@Nameless.Friend yes his good in "the remains of the day" I also love him in "the bounty"
@@Flypidge I also liked him in the movie Fracture.
@@JohnRE yes completely agree, he is just......good in everything lol
Lucky school. What a great man and a great actor.
Everybody comments about Hannibal but in Remains of the day he plays a great role. Love this man!
That is my favourite for sure. Love that movie
He's so professional, he knows the mic is causing problems (he keeps asking if people can hear him), but keeps going.
He Speaks So Honestly From His HearT. Love His SpiriT.
🙏💙💛💚❤💜🙏
Singing in a cathedral choir i sung a piece from the 'shadowlands' which was just beautiful. Anthony Hopkins is just amazing
What a great soul, blazingly talented, yet humble to a fault. Listening to Anthony Hopkins is a great antidote to being full of oneself. One of the endearing things about him is that he's always seemed a tad baffled by own fortune and success. "I had nothing to do with it," he's often said. "My life is none of my business," he says here with characteristic humility. Great video, thanks for posting!
He's a great actor.
What a lovable guy.
This is an actor who knows and loves Shakespeare, and that is the secret to delivering these wonderful lines that he wrote so many centuries ago. It's not a secret. It's a gift that only those who have a love for his words can communicate.
what an adorable, intelligent, dear soul. i just love him.
I wish sir Anthony Hopkins was my mentor. Hope I get to meet him one day AMEN
Shadowlands gives life to CS Lewis in addition to eternal life in heaven, life on earth for us... Thanks to Anthony Hopkins
It's always inspiring to see those with the most success in life come to a place of such wisdom and perspective. Absolutely incredible.
Best actor in the world and he's nervous in front of some student!
Mr. Anthony a real gentleman, such a humble and noble man... Just amazing❤️
i always loved him since the first time I saw him on the screen.....very present.enlightened actor.most lovely n egoless,childlike..
Such a amazing and humble guy! What an inspiration he is. He's my favorite actor forever and ever!❤
It's never too late! I mean I'm 21 going into acting but I would urge you to pursue your dream. You'll drive yourself crazy thinking "what if"! Go for it
Amazing man. and my absolute favorite actor.
Respect you Sir.
The great actor he is. And the great humanbeing too i guess.
im glad i have a unique connection with AH, in that we both drove passed Port Talbot where he grew up, back in the 80s and both listened to Vangelis tracks by cassette tape. If you combine that music with the steel works flames rising in the night sky there and the plentiful Welsh rain, you get a very vivid and unnerving Bladerunner experience, a movie he loves. Only people from that area can relate to it and make the connection.
my favorite actor and quite a composer...
I love Anthony Hopkins! He is my favorite actor...
Saw him in the BBC version of War and Peace 40 years ago -- he played Pierre -- and it was obvious he was one of the greats, or soon to be. How good of him to stop by and talk to the students.
He was very generous and giving here sharing a lifetime of masterful craft and experience.
great to see his vibe with these bright young people...
Such a sweet and humble guy! Doesn't like to talk about himself. So cute!! 😘❤
superb lecture, shame about the audio. Lovely to hear the thoughts and process of a great actor and humanitarian.
he also suffers with aspergers he such n inspirational man
Unique intimate encounter with Anthony Hopkins here. Thanks for uploading this. Rare insight into his character as a human being.
this was nice to hear... Hopkins is a good actor and even more successful as a human being
I can't get enough of this video, it is amazing. God bless St. Thomas Aquinas College and restoration of the Traditional Latin Mass!
Anthony I think you have the Celtic blood in you,a deeply humble guy.🤝🔑💚
It is refreshing to witness prayer at a true Catholic College, especially a Great Books college.
Pedo college
I learned so much from this lecture, Ive lived my life looking from the inside out and always wondered what i was missing but could ever give up the security of being safe and protected. I find socialising and the act of chang verry difficult. Hearring some one I respect so much talk of the benifits of doing what one may be affraid of was inspiring and I got it. You'll never have anything to bring to the table if youv'e nvere been to one to begin with...Thank you Mr. Hopkins.
A real Gentle Humble Man
great heights extreme modesty that's sir antony hopkins
Very Talented Gentleman. Sir Anthony Hopkins. Love listening to him
thank you sir Anthony .God bless you you are the best
We love You !
Such a good man, he is so inspiring, yet humble
Tony is one cool cat.
Anthony Hopkins is amazing. I’ve been a public speaker for decades and am always amazed at how those who host these events, even at universities and other large forums, seemingly cannot demonstrate even a basic understanding of AV equipment. Thomas Aquinas probably knew Hopkins was coming well in advance, yet they didn’t seem to have any preparation or command of AV or even the speaker’s position near the podium. They spent more time on the opening prayer than they did on AV. Oh well.
It’s not a wealthy school. It’s very small. No need to focus on AV equipment (at least until this day🙂). The methods of teaching and learning there are ancient. It’s very different from a traditional college. A rare gem. But probably never really focused on AV equipment.
Our elder brother who is one of the great fan of Sir Anthony has a huge collection of his works in a small room we call the "locker room" at our mothers house. He often talks about the personality of Sir Hopkins with enthusiasm. I clearly understand what he was saying on this video. How simple and extraordinary person is he. Giving the floor for audiences with a very brief introduction is a very excellent stage performance than making a long speech because you are talking about what peoples want to know.
Brilliant gravitas, "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience." - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.
Thank you to whomever recorded this and shared it. He is a humble and wonderful man and it is always nice to hear thoughts of actors like him.
He is incredible. I can't even...wow
Beautiful man...real inspiration...
Excellent actor and role model !! Rare!
Sir Tony is awesome!
This man is my best actor
I could listen to Anthony all day love this man
Sir Tony must to tell you that I appreciate so much your speech about your life in the field of movies painting and your artwork in general. Corina Olivia
Sir Anthony looks like my dad. Yes, it is true. Both great guys!
So I guess this was a ......lecture with Lecter .... YEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHH
😄
I read somewhere that he actually frightened his mother, when portraying Hannibal Lecter.
Met my wife at TAC, read the books, Tony made it special.
What a truely wonderful man.
Beautiful. Tony's improvisation was not without nuggets of wisdom. It was a tribute to the inscrutable lightness of being. The here. And now.
What an intelligent human being 🙌🙌🙌
What a guy!
What a wise, generous man. Such an inspiration.
What an actor--what a human being. :)
WOW !!!! What a man !!!!!
I met him some time ago -- a very nice, down to earth humble guy he is
From everything I have seen regarding Mr Hopkins, which isn't a whole lot as you do not follow celebrities, but he seems to be a very down-to-earth and gracious man.
A true class act
thank you for uploading.
Absolute favourite artist
I LOVE YOU TONY ALWAYS💕
This was positively BRILLIANT!!!! I AM SOOOOO PROUD!!! Uncle Tony, I Love you Forever!!! Mummy explained about these new ?'s & A's... now I truly "get-it"!! Rather particularly effective (you've enhance and changed MANY LIVES)!!!!! See you in London and Port Talbot!! Phillip XO
Hannibal Lecter.
Sir Anthony Hopkins in Silence is astounding.
But, he is also part of one of the best trhillers ever.
Ted Tally's script is a true nail bitter.
I've seen it multiple times on video. I saw it yesterday in the cinema. My nails are gone.
And Jodie Foster as the underdog rules.
P.S.:Great score.
Tony Hopkins sounds gangsta. I like it. Plus, yes, indeed the microphone should have been better.
if i had been in the audience I would have asked him if he could elaborate on the moment that changed his life in 1975 and what led immediately up to it and what immediately followed
As you know Tony was an alcoholic and realising that he would die if he carried on, he called AA, after his last drink on the morning of 29th December 1975. He has been a lifetime member since that day when he declared war on his demons.
What a wonderful experience for the students. Sir Anthony is such a wonderful soul.
I was so taken in by everything that I didn't really notice the audio issues. When you have such a great gift it's hard to focus on problems. Loved the exchange. Lived them all. Very grateful.
An amazing and talented man who helps so many others.
Fantastic actor and a gentleman !
