Yeah in situations like that you need to hold Y (brake) to stop it, just letting go of accel will keep you boucing.

Normally you never need to actually use it (you can make most corners by letting go of accel + using the L/R) but when you're getting ping ponged off walls like that then you can use it to force it to stop.
Seeing that bouncing around in Silence sure is nostalgic, I think most people who grew up with F-Zero on the SNES probably experienced that at least once!
Thanks for teaching us that timing a boost right can help you recover nicely. And also how timing it wrong can result in smoking 8 extra walls like a pinball. Very informative.
Playing F-Zero 99 is absolutely reminding me of being 13 years old and playing in my best friend's living room during a sleepover. I'm absolutely loving it, and I'm loving the FZ99 content too.

It has been a long time since I've played a game that makes me pucker quite as much as this game. Edge of the seat gameplay, and i am addicted to it.
Your reaction to getting bronze in one race (happy) and silver in another (angry) reminds me of something I'd read about bronze medalists in the Olympics being happier about their medals than silver medalists. I can easily believe that that's a common thing.

@@KillingSpreeXLWDGNG Fair. It is odd that people are more okay with being the second loser though. It probably has something to do with the fact that in the continuum between gold and nothing, silver is closer to gold; bronze is closer to nothing.

@@paulchapman8023 It's all about expectations with selfishness, although real losers are the ones that always think they are losers even when they get to the top. They somehow think they put so much effort so that they should deserve it, but it's true as to everyone else. Sometimes you get first even without putting effort , sometimes you won't, even if you put all the effort in the world. It's also a matter of talent, timing and luck. No such big deal about it.

Watching that one race, I can't help but feel the F-Zero title really should license out for a pinball machine.
I just want to say that I love how all 4 vehicles are viable. I’ve been seeing a lot of people saying “oh Wild Goose is good for beginners”, and while that’s true, it’s clearly also entirely possible to win with it-it’s not just a ‘training car’.
I really hope they add more racers over time, and manage to keep them all distinct.
Hey Ryu, if you want a great idea for a 'Debunking the Difficulty' episode, I'd like to recommend F-Zero GX's story mode on 'Very Hard' difficulty.
It currently enjoys a truly legendary reputation as being brutally unforgiving and demanding perfection or near perfection right from the very first mission up until the last one, with it demanding no mistakes and near flawless execution and if you make even a single mistake then either start saving the frames you can't even see or it's basically GG. It gets talked about in darkened rooms via the sort of hushed whispers that'd make it a great candidate for a video, especially with this new F-zero craze that's happening.
Not much to debunk though, the poor visibility in some places is as real as it gets. The awful track design in GX is the main reason X remains the best F-Zero.
Wouldn't mind seeing someone else suffering through it though.

Nah the low visibility is great at times and challenges you to learn the course much more. GX is goated. @@christophersavignon4191
@@christophersavignon4191 I absolutely love everything about GX, even though I'm too bad to fully beat the single player. But I will say, having played X, there's actually a lot about it that prefer. I think the music kicks more ass, and it has that absolutely awesome mode where it randomly generates courses using different design elements. I actually can't believe that was a thing in an N64 game, really was a shame it didn't come back in GX.

Forcing the player to drive blind is bad game design, no two ways about it.
You'd have to be completely blinded by nostalgia or the sunk cost fallacy to think otherwise.
Love the content. This games FEELS like what i imagined the game was trying to be. A deadly race where cars are exploding and destruction is only a few mistakes away. The risks taking through curves, the juggling of health and boosts. You play like a really calm racer and its so fun to watch.
All F Zero games are addicting…. It’s my favorite Nintendo Franchise by far

love the rival mechanic, it is more impactful when you are on top places because you actually get the same rivals. That whole grand prix was its own arc with c4 BOOM getting killed and then bad fetus clutching the win at the end.
IMO this is the most fun online Nintendo game ever

I have flown off the course a few times because my D-Pad isn't great, so when I hold back to extend a jump sometimes it inputs down and to the side instead of just down.

I flew off the map my first mini prix in the white ice map. I didn't even know you could. Crashed out on a jump in the first lap
Worst part is when you are well ahead in 1st the insane amount of red bomb drone cars they drop in your face. Let me win handily damnit! Also use 2.4ghz or wired control. I’ve noticed a big difference. Great vid!

i've fell off the map only once in f-zero 99 so far... just because i got bumped into a wall, which then proceeded to push me towards a jump pad and out of the map.
@Ryu remember you can bump the grey cars to get extra health and lengthen the bar

I'm not sure. I know he commented in the video about how he didn't get any boost from killing the bots, but not sure about the power bar.

If you have the time, you should definitely check out the F-Zero anime. Though keep in mind that it’s in a continuity separate from the other games. The anime itself also had two tie-in games.

Ryu still hasn't realized that a millisecond is 0.001s, not 0.01 😂
That boost trying to get out of the trap for some reason wasn't enough to pull you out which is why is only made it even worse. Felt like that boost should've been enough though

By the way, it's not millisecond, but centisecond... :X Which is still pretty impressive. Also, I think that a frame in this game is way longer than 1 millisecond.

Getting a KO on the final lap and having full health and therefore a bunch of extra boosts when you're out of skyways is the way. This is the way.
I am too risky in this game and crash out too much. I envy your level headedness.

You can use some ramps as a shortcut to leap over the outside area. You can skip a turn by using the ramp after the mines in silence for example.
"All I did was drive straight and I'm in last. Like I did something wrong!"
Sums up my experience. Obviously there's more nuance they didn't bother to explain.
It's incredibly fun to watch.
I have managed to fly off the track a few times when going over ramps, usually from either getting bumped or over correcting.
The rival thing is genius and I hope Mario Kart adopts it

LOVING this new focus on F-Zero!^^ I mean I love the Mario Maker videos too! But you never know if the next game YOU like to play is going to be something WE like to watch! And in this case it most definitely is!:)
you make this game look so easy, whenever i am in front of the pack and I see 2 red butches i just panic, try to go around them and crash against one of them, you just go between the 2 so easily without touching them, even during hairpins, lol!!!
This was a lot of fun! Like you said, it's rather different from SNES F-Zero; all the chaos of 100 machines ricocheting off of everything, buy still seems fun. Still hoping they don't wait TOO long to drop some more content. No need to hurry, but still.
I'm not sure I'd actually expect you to, but I will continue to hope to maybe see you play a video through F-Zero X, on the N64. I can't say it's an amazing game, or even that playing it will help you significantly with 99, since they are VERY different, but it would be fun to se you play what was basically happening between now, and rhe so long ago 90s, when F-Zero was new. I'd prefer they keep to something more like 99, or maybe at most incorporate ab alternate activity that is more like X, sort of how Mario Maker can base a level around one of several Mario game systems, but some of the extra "content" I'd love to see is more racers. Watching you play this reminds me that, even with alternate paint schemes, and decals, it's still only four units, even with several dozen racers. Adding alternate cars, like those from X, could be awesome!
To let u know, the golden fox is the best vehicle if you can get into the lead very early (using your boosts) and use those boosts to maintain ur lead (because it has high recovery)

It seems the best time to use skyway is at the hairpin curve. You lost so much speed when taking the hairpin curve every time. But the great thing about the skyway is you never lose speed. I think speed is more important than a shortcut. Dunno.

This F-Zero content is great! Ryu is definitely getting pretty unreal at this game! Yeah, it seems like conserving your Skyway Super Boost seems to be the road to victory. You have to time that boost at the certain areas of the track to just cruise ahead of the pack.
I'm curious if Ryu is still doing the Debunking the Difficulty series? It has been awhile since I've seen a new one. I wasn't sure if it is just now on another one of his channels.
