Depression can also Happend when a human gets shocked extremly. Im one of them. I dont get it away and i have it since one and a half years now. Sure this World is Not for us but for the non belives but we all still have a purpose Here. Im Christian To and God removed it quite good but Theres still a Part of the Depression that doesnt Go and makes my day completly destroyed sometimes. So im sometimes doing Things i shouldnt do as a Christian To get some fun. I should Trust God completly but He only gives me so much Energy to keep myself on my feet but not to Change Things. God has His Plans but unless i cant understand or See them its Impossible for me to really Trust him 100% so im doing wrong Things that i hate to Balance the bad Feelings with the good ones.

@Evelyn Choy depression is an illness just like a heart problem , it can be brought on by physical or envi mental issues .
It needs treatment like anyother illness .
people in the Bible experienced depression , even Jesus , so stop being so quick to judge and condemn others who are experiencing depression .

@Evelyn Choy You haven't understood this guy, I have suffered depression for years and this guy has really helped me. Don't despair, it's not anyone's fault, you need to try and understand what he is saying. It makes real sense to me. Jeremiah was called the weeping prophet, Elijah broke down with depression because he could not see the big picture. Job got depressed and said though He(God) slay me yet will I trust Him. Depression is an accurate emotion for the state of this fallen world. It all makes sense. Take care.

    • @pgtips4240
      @pgtips4240 Před 5 lety +7

Thank you for this video, the cause of my depression is part biological and psychological. This video has helped me because I look at the world and see it as all pointless, it's fallen, it's passing away and therefore pointless. We live, we die. The only thing that makes life bearable is because Jesus lives. It's because He lives, I can face tomorrow. You are totally right, God's light is the brightest in the dark places, the valleys. I get what you are saying about depression being an accurate emotion of the state of this world but what helped me is when you said Jesus is going to fix it. The fact that one day Jesus is going to destroy all the evil and we shall be changed makes this world tolerable because God is on the throne.
Thanks, this somehow made much sense to me.

    • @pgtips4240
      @pgtips4240 Před 5 lety +7

@Evelyn Choy The suffering never feels good but God allowes it to happen to His children sometimes. The bible says ALL things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Depression and other hardships can most definitely produce good. The pinnacle being that Jesus suffered on the cross, it was a horrible thing for Jesus to endure but through His suffering and death a lot of good came ie the destruction of the works of the devil and redemption of the people of God.

  • @ryknow-coversongs1601
    @ryknow-coversongs1601 Před 5 lety +227

This is the most salient response to Christian depression I have ever heard. I’ve had a suspicion for a long time that being happy and positive every single day after being saved is just not accurate. That hasn’t been my experience at all. While I love the Lord and trust that He will prevail over this world, living in this world as it stands currently can be overwhelming and depressing. For a long time, I believed my depression was a sign that I was falling away from God, simply because I wasn’t going out everyday with a smile and singing Christian songs in the street. This explanation makes absolute sense and is encouraging to me. I can see now that depression is almost inevitable if you can truly see the stark difference between what we know about the future with God and what we’re living with every day in the world.
I used to attend a church where there were a lot of people who lived very comfortably, had amazing lifestyles, and lived without a care in the world. That was not my experience. I wonder how many Christians who claim to live depression-free are simply hiding behind a lavish lifestyle that insulates them from the reality of a truly broken world.

This is what I needed today. SO blessed that this came up in my feed. 64-years-old and have battled depression and anxiety since I was a little kid. Dealing with suicidal ideation, but would never actually take my own life. My house is a mess, I've packed on a bunch of pounds, and I rarely have any energy. Haven't been to church in months. Trying to break out of the cycle, but am not having much success. THANK YOU for addressing this! My love and prayers are going out to everyone who's suffering. Bless ALL of you, and hold fast to God's promises!

I do not ever remember not being depressed, I decided not to take meds for my depression.I am saved and i have learned to deal with it. I know when i am going deep into it. I have also learned that God owes me nothing and no one else does , so my expectations are very low of others.I have no idea why i suffer from depression for so many years. God is the only reason i am able to cope. I can live a normal life with it.But i admit sometimes when i feel myself going into it too deep it becomes hard.

"And God made man according to His image and likeness and gave them authority".
That got lost through the fall of man.
But is freely returned by Jesus Holy Blood and Holy Spirit IN us.
The Gospels were written by man like you and me. Eyewitnesses that saw God walking this earth in Christ. Healing all, raising the dead, casting out demons, controlling nature. He said:
"If you see Me, you see the Father. The Father and I are one. You will understand that the Father is IN me and I am IN you. I will send Holy Spirit, the same as Me, He will be IN you, guide you into truth and will give you power. The same miracles I do, you will do too, etc ,etc".
It is in John 14 up to 17.
It is the ultimate conclusion of Gods word.
Jesus, born by the Spirit of God, filled with the Spirit of God....... God manifested on earth in a human body.
      Completely normal btw.
In Genesis He made man according to His own image and likeness. So what's the big fuzz that Jesus could not be the exact image of God in the flesh? He just is.
Evenmore. Now by His Spirit we transform back to the same image! Hence the countless miracles i already have experienced.
      God has come full circle!
"As in the first Adam ALL died (lost the divine nature), so also ALL were made alive IN Christ to walk in Zoë = divine life again." Rom 5:18
The divine life the first Adam let go of has been freely returned to us by Christ's blood and spirit.
Same happens in Christianity btw. Most Christians think it is all about trying to do good, dodging hell and going to heaven some day.
Heaven already came down in Spiritform, for you to be indwelled by, be changed and walk in unselfish divine power and love.

And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed *into His image* from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit."

Being depressed and having depression are VERY different things, despite the constant conflation. One is the absence of proper chemical balance in the brain while the other is actually feeling negative things- a person with depression may feel nothing at all.

@@metsot I think what he's saying is that there's a difference between clinical depression as a mental illness and being depressed as a temporary affliction. Someone that is clinically depressed doesn't feel that way as a response to outside circumstances. They feel that way because there is something wrong with the chemical structure of the brain. Therefore, the hope and peace that a normal person may feel internally even when they have feelings of depression doesn't necessarily exist for the clinically depressed. A normal person who is depressed because of the world around them has the ability to think "its okay because I know God is in control and one day he will wipe out all sadness and grief," and feel a sense of relief underneath the depression they feel. But someone that is clinically depressed doesn't feel that sense of relief knowing that God will come back and conquer all. There is no internal peace because the only internal feeling is depression. When the depression comes from inside of you instead of from outside circumstances, that sense of relief and peace underneath it all never comes.

Helpful video, but perhaps a broadening of terms and clarification of what is depression would be useful. There was mention of the physiological or medical side, and that needs better articulation. What I'm hearing described here isn't DEPRESSION, but rather, melancholy, discouragement, sadness, fear, disappointment, or even disbelief. Depression, medically defined, can be more severe than those. Please, when using the word "depression", let's make sure we consider a greater range of language. It's easy to reinforce poor preconceptions and misconceptions of that term.

Unhelpful statement... perhaps you need more personal experience with spiritual torture and mental illness. You say what you said simply because you've heard it spoken by people who themselves lack personal experience with spiritual torture and mental illness that there is an "over-application" of the term depression in our society, and not all sadness needs to be medically treated. Which is partly true. But if you had real, personal experience with such matters, as I do having Bipolar for 13 years, you would know how accurate this man's words are. His understanding of Depression is far greater than yours. All levels of despair, sadness, grief, and "depression" come from exactly what he said... a loss of what someone longed for. And Joy is the faithful presence of God and the confident hope He gives in a wonderful eternity.

I learned a lot by needing to search the Bible and seek the truth on this subject, because I was also told repeatedly that I caused it myself.
I'm sorry if this seems negative or gossip-y, but certain people began claiming I wasn't a real Christian, that I was "choosing not to live in the joy of the Lord" and "probably wasn't even saved." So I needed to really do some inner work, and grow a lot. I also left my local church ultimately. But I understand scripture more, and I'm grateful.

I think your video is partly helpful in that you say that a Christian can be depressed. From personal experience as a practicing Christian I know what it is to be depressed. The onset of it began when I was in my late twenties working as an international development volunteer in Swaziland, Africa. Working in poor rural Africa be a challenge for someone with good mental health but it becomes so much more difficult when you become depressed. I think my depression was compounded by the effects of the anti-malarial drugs I was taking but I also believe that the chemistry of my brain was at fault in that it did not produce enough of the serotonin neurotransmitter associated with good mental health. Without it depression results. I also suffered from anxiety which was caused by a lack of norepinephrine the neurotransmitter that must be present in sufficient quantities to connect with the 5HT2 receptors in the brain. When it's not present at normal levels a person can experience anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia. I just had anxiety. I worried about everything. It seemed impossible to think positive thoughts about everything in my personal life and everything about life. I spent 30 years in that state, suffering. Praying did not seem to help. Talk therapy with psychologists and psychiatrist only helped a little. Then I met a psychiatrist who convinced me that I should take a special anti-depression, anti-anxiety drug known as an SNRI anti-depressant, also known as a Seritonin - Norepinephrine Re-uptake Inhibitor which is designed to keep the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine high. This was something I had been opposed to for a long time, believing that I should be able to fix this problem on my own with God's help. I gave in and the drugs transformed my life. In a few months the depression and anxiety were gone, replaced by good mental health that has stayed that way for the past 14 years. My experience of depression and anxiety and my knowledge about their impact on mental health has made me more compassionate and given me the ability to provide support to others who are suffering. My Christian faith has strengthening. I now lead by example as a Christian and people recognise me for what I am.

Most Christians think it is all about trying to do good, dodging hell and going to heaven some day.

I always feel like I just want to disappear , disappear and float in nothingness. I am very tired of the injustice going on around the world. Christians would often say, " you are blessed because others have more sufferings that you do" This is exactly my point! How can i feel that I am blessed if others aren't blessed like me. I can't sleep at night knowing others don't have a place to stay , or tortured or killed in other countries. so much injustice I can't feel like oh I'm blessed. I can't be happy knowing that so many people are unhappy.

Wow! That was beautifully said. Anointed teacher.
I've discovered that there are a multitude of Christians suffering with depression and unless they tell you, you would never know this is what they are dealing with.
    QUESTION:
In my Christian Coaching practice I've worked with clients that have both, Anxiety & Depression. What I've noticed is that as we work on the Anxiety, a bonus side-effect happened. The depression often went away or decreased as the Anxiety was relieved. We didn't directly work on the depression itself but it happened simultaneously. To God's glory!
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed that also? Is this a common scenario?
    Blessings!

the unclear part of this video is the definition of depression, because depression in this generation is a long time feeling of hopelessness. the way he explained it seems to me, he is suggesting it's ok to have a long term hoplessness. that's not what the bible says. in Corinthians, Paul said, that God's grace is sufficient for us and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. Paul said it, so that we will not stay in a depressed state.

I think of Proverbs 13:12, where it says hope deferred can make a heart sick, but when the desire is fulfilled, it becomes a tree of life. I think what makes us depressed most of the time is when we hang onto a hope that is delayed so long that it can affect our whole being, like a person desiring to be married and not finding the right person (or God not delivering the right person when we think we should have the right person).

Depression may be the hardest thing a person can go through...It steals your life, robs your joy, makes you withdraw from loved one. Turns yourself on yourself. It follows you to bed and when you wake up its waiting on you there. It's an all consuming disorder. I have found myself battling this disease and it has to be the worst thing I've ever experienced. I love the Lord and I know Jesus is my savior. My hope is I will be restored with a new understanding and sympathy for thoughs that battle mental health issues. Prayers for those seeking relief... just remember someday in Glory we won't be able to feel this way....Praise Jesus!

God is faithful.

And I'm not sure who to turn to anymore. I see all these people getting answers to prayer their very first time they cry out to Jesus. Yet after years of tear filled conversations to God in complete humility yet I only have silence!😥

    - emotional pain.

    and is completely toxic,
and I don't know how to get out...
and if I DO get out,
    I have nothing.
    - I am a failure in every aspect of my life.
    - I'm old now, the future is hopeless...
    - I recall the past and it fills me with rage.
    - I live in poverty.
    - fat/diabetic.
    - how the fuck am I going to change my life around?
    - perpetually single, without friends (my whole life).
    - C-PTSD/INFJ/HSP/SPD
    - people I love, got that horrific c-19 jab and I am terrified for them.
    - panic panic panic...

I was suffering from severe depression during the covid lockdown for many months, but I am grateful to God for finally bringing me through it . I just had to learn to persevere by reading the bible, Luther's prayer book and his sermons daily, which reacquainted me with the word of God and his promises of salvation through his son Jesus Christ. Thankyou to all those who prayed to God for me when I posted my prayer request here 6 months earlier. My circumstances havent changed apart from getting in touch again with an old friend and am still working from home . However I have been brought out of the pit of despair I was in a few months ago by the grace of God. I hope this encourages others who are suffering in the same way x

    Short answer: yes.
It doesn't have anything to do with our faith and salvation in Christ. I am learning more about this particular mental health issue. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. Not even depression or anxiety. Amen.

  • @theintrovertgospelmusic1676

Depression is not a joke. Gods grace I survived in depression. This method really helped me in overcoming depression.
    Six Ways Jesus Fought Depression
Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch[d] with me.” And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:36-39)
The Bible gives us an amazing glimpse into the soul of Jesus the night before he was crucified. Watch and learn from the way Jesus fought his strategic battle against despondency or depression.
1.)He chose some close friends to be with him. “Taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee” (Matthew 26:37)
2.)He opened his soul to them. He said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death” (Matthew 26:38)
3.}He asked for their intercession and partnership in the battle. “Remain here, and watch with me” (Matthew 26:38)
4.}He poured out his heart to his Father in prayer. “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me” (Matthew 26:39)
5.}He rested his soul in the sovereign wisdom of God. “Nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39)
6.}He fixed his eye on the glorious future grace that awaited him on the other side of the cross. “For the joy that was set before him [he] endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).
When something drops into your life that seems to threaten your future, remember this: The first shock waves of the bomb in your heart, like the ones Jesus felt in Gethsemane, are not sin. The real danger is yielding to them. Giving in. Putting up no spiritual fight. And the root of that sinful surrender is unbelief - a failure to fight for faith in future grace. A failure to cherish all that God promises to be for us in Jesus.
In Gethsemane Jesus shows us another way. Not painless, and not passive. Follow him. Find your trusted spiritual friends. Open your soul to them. Ask them to watch with you and pray. Pour out your soul to the Father. Rest in the sovereign wisdom of God. And fix your eyes on the joy set before you in the precious and magnificent promises of God.

      Gen 1:27.

Most Christians think it is all about trying to do good, dodging hell and going to heaven some day.
Heaven already came down in Spiritform, for you to be indwelled by, be changed and walk in unselfish divine power and love.
Even if you don't feeeeel Him, He's working. He is as close as the mention of His name. You live IN Him and He is IN you.
"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty [emancipation from bondage, true freedom]. And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed *into His image* from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit."

My depression began when I strayed away from God. I believe there’s a difference between having negative emotions and wanting to take your own life. I don’t like the idea of depression being necessary for a Christian. Yes we get discouraged at times but I wouldn’t call that depression. If we are at that point where we live with depression I think we need to evaluate our life and salvation and see where we went wrong. Philippians 2:12 says to work out our salvation. How is our relationship with God? Our devotion? Our reading and prayer? When we neglect our salvation is when Satan comes in and attacks. That’s when he uses depression to make us feel worthless and miserable. I wouldn’t wish depression on my worst enemy. I also don’t think as a Christian it’s okay or justifiable to have depression. Don’t settle. James 4:7 ; Ephesians 6:12

I had a period of bad depression after a stroke. Praying and strongly believing God loves me was a beacon that guided me out of it. I am a Calvinist and my belief in predestination made me believe that God had not abandoned me. I knew I was chosen. That was a concept that helped me defeat the anxiety, fear and failure that I was feeling. I knew that what ever happened to me in this fallen world God would redeem me in the end. I believe "once saved always saved". I had invited Jesus into my heart and I knew if I asked I would receive. I knew whatever circumstances were ahead of me that God was with me and those circumstances were a necessary experience I had to have while earthbound. I trust God's will and if I have to go through this I will go through it boldly and with purpose.
I had hope and knowledge that in the end I would be with my Creator and free of conflict.
Depression is an irrational "feeling". Focussing on your faith and God's love for you chases that "feeling" away. At least it did for me.
Why I was depressed in the first place is a mystery to me. I was afraid to go to my mail box. I was dogged by anxiety until I remembered God loves me and is always with me.

God told me one day through scripture that he can set me free if I give it all to him. And one day I said I wish to bare fruits of the spirit I no longer want depression. And I gave it to God. And it hasn't come back. Though I still battle with anger and I still do cry because I'm human I am not crippled by depression no more. Jesus is glorious and he fulfilled the father by bringing us back to the kingdom. I glorify Jesus name for it brings us back to God and gives us a chance to experience heaven on earth! Amen!

Everyone actually can turn their genes on/off for different things it's called epigenetics. We are given the power of taking captive our thoughts and of having a sound mind. Epigenetics doesn't apply to everything (from what I understand) but it does apply for a lot. I see a lot in my family that I want to end with me. So even if I have sin, curses, genetic baggage, etc. I can be set free from sin through Jesus. He also took care of the curses and he is my healer. Sometimes we don't get the answers we want from God but I know he gives me the answers I need. Whatever is wrong Jesus can fix it.

After being diagnosed with postpartum depression, PTSD, OCD, and anxiety and panic attacks at the age of 26 after the birth of my first son I learned through work with my psychiatrist that I was most likely predisposed genetically to depression. I learned after years of therapeutic work, a healing journey, and my faith in Christ that the depression side of things comes from my mother's side of the family.
So, couple that predisposition with real world family issues and I was pretty much set up to fail at life. Yet, in time, God has helped me to see that there is a lot of brokenness around me and this was placed in my life NOT because He caused it to be (let's be clear on that).
I'm now free from deep depression, addictions, and haven't attempted suicide in 20 years. Yet, I still have struggles daily. Yet, when I see my struggle in the light of what God has done for me.
I know that He'll help me through it and I still attend a recovery group and have an accountability group because God helped me to put safe boundaries around my heart. I'm sharing my message of freedom because people need to know you don't have to be perfect to keep having the faith. He will walk with us through everything!

I was already having suicidal thoughts during a depressive episode but I had a dream that night where everyone was doing their own business, unmindful that their flesh was rotting away. I was surprised to see the muscles of my feet rotting away too. I thought, but I'm a Christian, this shouldn't be happening to me. Then Jesus appeared and brought a family of gospel singers back to life. They were entering a tunnel and I went with Him. But I could not step into the vortex. I felt that I have not yet lived my purpose. Jesus told me, your turn will come. I woke up crying and read the book of Revelations. It changed my perspective of desiring death over my life into longing for Jesus' 2nd coming ...He will wipe all of my tears away. He has a purpose for my life and His grace will carry me. Though I mourn, am afflicted, and am not comforted today, God gives me hope on the life to come. He absorbs my passions on the cross and by His wounds, I am healed.

If a pastor disagrees with someone's diagnosis of anxiety and depression he should contact the patients doctor directly and discuss it with him instead of judging or harassing the patient behind the doctor's back. It's fair to say that most pastors do not even possess the Acumen to become doctors so they should not give unsolicited medical advice contrary to a patient's doctor.

Evelyn Choy just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I know I have seen many of times where pastors lukewarm problems.

Evelyn Choy we all. have obligations to see if both sides of every situation has facts. How else can we help victims both pastors and chruch congregation victims? How can leaders having abusive habbits not matter when they are in charge of taking care of dozens of people?

Evelyn Choy ths size of the chruch shouldn't matter we all have obligations to help victims in chruch both pastors and the people. We should not tell them to just leave. we as Jesus Christ sons and daughters have obligations to help both pastors and the people who are victims. We should not turn a blind eye to pastors who are abused nor should we turn a blind eye to the people who are abuse. If we tell people or a pastor to leave because of abuse we are swiping the problem under the rug. Leaving a opening for more victims. You disagree?

Thank you thank you thank you !! I've convinced I'm not saved, I feel so sad, I feel so alone, I don't even understand what's going on anymore, even at the church , something feels off, I find it hard to find God in church I only find him alone and broken, I cnt find him in the world.
