Lavender Haze is a 1950s phrase I believe for being in love or the honeymoon phase
Be that as it may the song still makes no sense.
@@Te_Barbell_Bard it’s about how she doesn’t want to be married she just wants to be in love. It’s a stupid song but I love it lol
To me the message if the song was obvious, the symbolism of space I think is being used to describe a feeling that is infinite or everlasting. Vague and corny it may be, I don't think the song is trying to be based or woke, it's just a corny love song. She's had so many public relationships that are closely scrutinized by the media that this song sounds like she isn't going to let all that distract her in the future and undermine her will to love someone new and finally make it last.
@@LuckyGhoul understandable. It is a catchy song. If my music taste was the exact opposite as this genre, I would be inclined to say it is a good song.
she even said that in a video she posted when the album was first released.
Hey Michael! Actually, the phrase "lavender haze" was a saying back in the '50's that meant to be deeply in love! She's explained it an interview. Just wanted to share some info!
Gay used to mean happy too...
That’s the exoteric meaning. With the demons in Hollywood that is the never the intended meaning. We look at the esoteric hidden meaning.
She is singing about giving over your will to the lust of the flesh whether it be straight or gay or Pedo or bestiality. This brand of occultism unconsciously pushes people that listen over and over to slowly beat down their conscious until “love is love” is acceptable and all that matters. The intent is for the listener to give up morality for worship of the Self.
Kinda sounds like the druggie way of saying your in lust ..
Yes, but historically they also used it in some poems (lavender) to mean LGB, especially L lovers. I graduated in literature ages ago, if I find it sone I leave it here.
@@patriciaarmfadelicatelife The term lavender has long been co-opted by and strongly associated with the alphabet people. Just search for the terms lavender with LGBT.
There was even a movie about the history of gays in Hollywood called "The Lavender Closet", and they wear lavender to signal their gayness on one of their LGBT holidays.
Whoever edits Michael's videos should get a raise. The "'Cause she's dead" interjection killed me 😂
But I feel like that for all the Daily Wire shows' editing. I mean, Brett and Ben also have amazing editing in their videos, making it even more fun to watch.
that was so clever, makes me think he has a Swiftie on staff... but then again why let him make some wrong assumptions?
I nearly peed myself 😂😂😂
I don't mind this silly rhymes with swat "doing whatever she wants", it's the people -- usually men with families now -- she hurts and the millions of silly teenage girls she serves as a "role model" for. Just hoping she won't go full "trans" because we've got enough trouble with that without stadiums full of 14 year old demanding testosterone and body mutilation.
lavander haze is about an absent lover, a lover who does not fully want to commit (to marriage), a love who treats you as somewhere in between a one night stand and a wife, and wants to perpetually stay in the "honeymoon stage" of a relationship. It is a lover who is distance, who is unknown like space (which is why the map of stars in his back), or underwater, whom she does not know, and who does not listen to her. He is only happy with her in the lavendar haze haze, not in real everyday life.
THIS.
Wow! Good job you explain it very well! You a Swiftie?
@@rachaelgrig3173 hey thanks, I am !! not going to eras though :(
So she wants to be stuck in childish love and never fully commit?
👏👏👏👏
Lavender Haze is a 1950’s phrase that Taylor heard being used while watching MAD MEN during the pandemic.
I understand that people have different opinions on Taylor Swift. That's fine. It is explicitly said in other media that the phrase "Lavender Haze" is for the honeymoon stage of love. That being said, I do not support her political beliefs. I just enjoy her music.
On a different note I'd recommend Michael listen through her folklore or evermore albums. I think he would really enjoy them!
Those are the best albums!!!!!!!
@@LuckyGhoul I also think it’s a better representation of the “real” Taylor Swift considering it was wrote during the pandemic away from the fame.
Agreed. 💯 Those are also a little deeper 🤣
I used to love Swift's old music. Then she started being more and more overt about pushing woke politics. It ruined my interest in her.
What the term "Lavender Haze" meant in the 50s is irrelevant; it's become a term closely associated with the alphabet people and that's definitely why she chose to call it that and it's not a coincidence that her love interest in the video is a bearded woman.
She was definitely looking to get lauded by the left for heroically pandering to the trans cult.
Lavender Haze means feeling so in love that it envelopes you like a fog, but the next part of that is to get married, I think she wants to love as intensely as she does then, but without taking to take the next step, but that's not how it works
I like how Michael averts his eyes at points in the video. You can tell he's trying to keep his thoughts pure ❤
I thought the same thing. My husband does the same thing if something pops up during a movie 😭❤️
Of course. He's married and a "man of faith". Can't have any "impure" thoughts when the whole point of the exercise is this year's baby.
I don't think it's a question if she's woke she is full woke.
Woke: everything that goes against conservatives bigoted ideology.
She has so much money that she isn't woke or based. She pretends to be whatever her fans need her to be.
@@TheKingofSteves you mean the way Tuckums did my lying to his gullible audience?
you are just dumb.
she literally explained in an interview that the song was not about gays and stuff but about the 1950s phrase that meant deeply in love.
when she said this the woke lgbtq fans attacked her and got mad.
@@TheKingofSteves a trans person is in her video , so she’s ( by the rights definition ) woke
She's very intelligent. She woke when it sells, she's not woke when it sells. Conclusion: she's commercial. It's all about money you know.
when was she not woke?
ever heard of mk ultra, she just does what she is told
@@Garden-of-Eden893 Conspiracy theorist gone completely off the rails. 🤨
You beat me to it. This is almost all it's ever about. :)
@@nikoraasu6929 she dates straight white men all her life while being woke.
This proves it’s all an act for her to make money by keeping the woke lunatic fans happy.
In reality she leans to the right.
I really think Michael should do a full album reaction to both 'FOLKLORE' and 'EVERMORE'. I think he would enjoy it.
Please make it happen!🥺🤗
Two good albums being underrated af tells you about people's taste lul
I totally read that as “Wokelore.”
That'd be a great way to lose a ton of subscribers.
@@iiTzKaran_YT Two be honest they weren't that underrated. Folklore was AOTY at the Grammys that year. Also both these albums are adored by her fans
@@b.g.5869 Maybe😅
At least a few songs from both albums will be enough. But I truly believe both those albums are her best and most mature sounding.
Lavender Haze is a term used in the 1950s to describe love and happiness so she's saying she wants to stay in this all consuming love with her boyfriend instead of worrying about what other people say, so I don't think I'd call it a "political statement" but she definitely had some of that in there. As a swiftie I genuinely believe she knows it's all wrong and is simply trying to stay relevant which she is, but I just hope she becomes brave enough to stand up for what she believes in and gain more success the right way.
You only believe she thinks that because you feel it’s wrong and are projecting it onto her as a result. She did an entire song and video (YNTCD) where she explicitly supports LGBT people, many of her genuine real life friends are in the community (e.g. Todrick), and almost every opener for her current tour she chose to be an LGBT woman (e.g. MUNA, Phoebe Bridgers, Girl In Red, etc).
Surely if she believed this was wrong she would say she supports LGBT rights but not go to these extreme lengths to do so which are more than any other straight, huge pop artist like her does. She would also not have made several political statements supporting the campaigns of democrats, as many other artists don’t bother to and she would be fine. She even has no friends who are right wing that we know of and is part of an industry and demographic that is almost entirely democrat. In reality she has explicitly said in her music she dislikes people with your views, and instead of believing her you have made up a version of her in your head. Perhaps because she is white and blonde? I have no clue.
@@galaxycharI think she goes to these extreme lengths because she was getting tons of hate for not speaking out. People were calling her a nazi barbie, arian queen etc.
Also she has right wring people in her circle like her dad and I am pretty sure that she has some nonfamous friends in Nashville (her true friends) that are right wing too.
she will never be as small minded as you want her to be. can you cope with that fact?
Lavender Haze is an anachronistic phrase for fantastically optimistic love without boundaries. Interestingly enough it echoes into the transcendental and chakra-based cosmology. Lavendar is a color of soul awakening and transcendence beyond human contructs. Careful what you allow to earwig into your soul, folks.
Thank you for that, I've been incredibly skeptical of Taylor Swift lately. It seems like she could be up to more then the "bad girl" type.
Yes, and being gay used to mean being happy.
The fact that "Lavenders Haze" used to refer to the honeymoon period of a romantic relationship, for decades now the word lavender has been co-opted by and strongly associated with things LGBT.
Just Google the words Lavender and LGBT; you'll see.
There's no way it's a coincidence that she chose to have her love interest in the video be a trans man for a song with lavender in the title.
It's definitely a nod.
She's not a profound lyricist; she's a dance pop performer. She's definitely informed enough to know what allusions "lavender" has today.
I wouldn't be looking too deep into this.
Lyrically, the song isn't about anything LGBT related; it's just the typically narcissistic self centered lyrics about how hard it is to be rich and famous, what with all the nosy press and gossip etc 🥱.
Pink used to write lyrics like this all the time.
It's just her griping about media gossip about her relationships.
I suspect she knew she was going to pander to transmania in the video with her bearded woman boyfriend, she knows the word "lavender" has strong LGBT connotations that might get people wondering, and I'm sure she's familiar with the 50s origin of the phrase "Lavender Haze" and she makes largely incoherent digs at 50s conformity so, not being Shakespeare, she probably just decided there was some connection there.
It's a Taylor Swift song title not a Zen Koan for crissakes.
@@b.g.5869 pushing everything else you said aside which are merely just theories how is the song topic narcissistic? She’s just singing about how her and her bf at the time aren’t gonna be paying attention or letting the media get to them because they’re too focused on being happy or in the lavender haze which is a phrase used in the 50s to refer to someone being deeply in love with someone they would say you’re in the “lavender haze”. I do think you’re being a little exaggerative about this. I don’t think singing about how annoying the media is is “narcissistic” it’s just the truth
@@b.g.5869 lmfao imagine calling Laith Ashley (the man in the music video) a "bearded woman boyfriend"... I guarantee he's hotter than ANY man you've ever dated 🤣On top of that... it genuinely doesn't matter what decade the phrase "Laverder Haze" came from, because regardless she used it with the same meaning as the original phrase
Dang. I knew the title was just a reference but it definitely seemed like Taylor is into New Age considering how much she seems to like referencing astrology
Jimi Hendrix reference to purple haze was a description of being under the influence of LSD. Don’t ask me how I know.
That's why I assumed it referred to drugs. Now I know it's an older expression for a "honeymoon phase" of a relationship.
That haze was purple not lavender. Don't ask me how I know.
The fish is actually a reference to her third album’s tour, where she played with a guitar that had koi fish on it. It’s supposed to hint at her next re-recording.
well hello fellow swiftie. I also make this comment. pity Knowles doesn't have a Swiftie on staff, to stop him from making such embarrassing gaffes.
@@ssp4795 yeah I was like it has nothing to do with the ocean or the place between the ocean and space lol. It's just an Easter egg.
She doesn't want to stop being that young pop star always in love. Before, it seemed her youth was endless, but now she can see the horizon. She can see the end of her "good years". I thought her music would grow more mature as she ages maybe even go back to her country roots, but instead taylor went more pop. Its actually sad when a 30 something still acts like she is in her early 20s.
Taylor spent her entire life building a career that focuses on being "wild and free" in whichever persona she comes up with. Personally, I'm tired of this "can't hold me down, but I someday dream of the perfect prince who will whisk me off my feet." That attitude looks yucky on someone her age. I stopped being a fan after her 1989 album because her music regressed as I got more mature. At that point, I realized I was no longer part of her demographic. She doesn't give a crap about growing with her fans, Taylor just wants to grow her wallet.
Oddly enough, I checked out of Taylor after her 1989 album. My mom wonders if after that album was when she started having sex. She acts like someone hollow.
Ive never been a Taylor fan but this definitely made me think about her music how you're right even miley has grown on her songs etc her voice her range and she was the wild child of our generation after Britney.
I love miley! ❤
@@geegee9553 yes exactly! I love Miley to this day, I'm the same age as her and her new songs feel exactly how I feel now that I'm older. I love her ❤

@@szechuon6971she dated John Mayer when she was 19 and wrote "give me back my girlhood" about him and then she wrote about Jake Gyllenhaal keeping the scarf that smelled like her on her Red album, both of which were released prior to 1989 so your mom is probably wrong about her little theory.
Let's appreciate the moment the editor work put giving us the insight of Micheal in club, partying, drunk mode moment.. exactly how i imagined it..😂😂🎉
Taylor was using marriage imagery in every single one of her albums about her now ex boyfriend Joe from Reputation to evermore, but especially in Lover. Every single fan thought it was strange when Lavender Haze came out and she was acting like marriage was stupid and beneath her. It was a complete 180 from the literal marriage vows she wrote in Lover. People had actually been speculating that she and Joe were secretly married due to her lyrics about being married to him but he shot it down in every interview. Then Lavender Haze comes out and they break up due to “a difference in personalities” ALL of her friends unfollowed him right after a girls night out so it doesn’t seem to be that amicable. It kind of makes me sad. I don’t agree with Taylor on everything but I don’t wish her harm or hurt. I’d love it if she could find someone to live the rest of her life with.
I don’t need to finish the video to know that the secret woke thing is that her love interest in this video is trans. Yes, her music is great, her social and political opinions are 🗑
100% agree. she is the queen of songwriting, but the pauper of political knowledge.
you’re so right! I think she’s a very talented woman with good music, but her politics are so virtue signal-y 😭
You are too kind. She deserves to go through what she's made the families of some of her hated ex-boyfriends go through with her little 13 year old flying monkey fans. Some of them have wives and kids now which makes them good targets, some even have to hide. And don't drag out the "be kind" b.s. She a predator.
@@lefantomer no lol
I'm convinced that if Michael took time to listen to her whole discography that he'd become a hardcore Swiftie and I love that for him
they all would (DW team), cos they respect writers, and her lyrics are incredible, even more so when you understood swiftlore. there are a few lyrics in this song that are throwbacks to other songs, only Swifties hear it. plus the koi fish thing.......... we know what that actually means.

@@bbhdd6181In her Speak now(3rd album) tour she used a guitar that had koi fish in it. She is in the process of recording some of her albums, the koi fish(along with the purple theme of the video) are an indicator that Speak Now will be her next rerecord
I interpreted the phrase (and overall the song) Lavender Haze as meaning short term pleasure at least from what the song seemed to imply. I mean Taylor depicted different kinds of activities that we do in society that brings short term pleasure, like promiscuity (i think she even alludes to this in her lyrics), partying, and implying that all she wants to do is live a life the way she wants it (which will only bring short term pleasure. If you are a Christian like me, you'll know). But i think that's basically what Michael was saying tbh lol.
Actually, its about her wanting to be forever with her long term boyfriend, which the media ended up driving away from her because the poor dude was sick of everybody meddling in his business, following them around and asking them constantly about then they were gonna get married(and creating false news about how they secretly got married and her being pregnant every 2 months)
@@Fan_Girl-xd8wy Oh well now that I'm actually looking at the lyrics that makes much more sense. It was kind of hard to hear what she was saying without it. I probably should have looked at it before commenting lol. I feel a bit embarrassed now haha. But that makes much more sense so thanks for the context!
@@screeching_frog don't feel embarrassed. I think it's easy to interpret her songs in the worst ways possible when conservative political commentators push that narrative. I like Micheal Knowles and agree on 90% of what he says but when the daily wire people start to dissect artists songs without doing an ounce of research on what the artist actually means and then label it "woke" to me it makes them lack any sort of credibility when it comes to modern cultural art. 5 years ago taylor swift put out one song with a political message and shared her political beliefs with the world and now they (and their listeners who dont listen to her) only view her in that lense. I'm a conservative but I've also been listening to taylor swift since 2006 when I was 12. Her music has been with me through every single stage of my life. I've been listening to conservative media since I was maybe 23, it bothers me to see conservative commentators not do an ounce of research on what a song actually means and just interpret it they way they think she means it because she put out a song with a political message ONCE.
Anyways my point of my rant is don't feel embarrassed. If you don't listen to her and just listen to (i hate to say it but very biased) political commentators, it's easy to assume the worst about her (or any other artists) music.
@@macaelaalmquist8659 It's easy to interpret a woke singer's lyrics in the worst way possible when you're conservative. They talk smack about your deepest held beliefs in public, so it's hard to tell when they're singing about something more basic and relatable.

This song isn’t complicated to understand at all. She has even explained it on camera.
“Lavender haze” is a phrase she heard on Mad Men from the 1950s which she is using to refer to wanting to stay in a bubble of love in a relationship and ignore the pressures and speculation from outside parties. “The only kind of girl they see is a one night or a wife” and the reference to “1950s” is about how everyone expects her to either be married or have hook ups, when in reality she is just enjoying her relationship and doesn’t want to do either of those things despite how she (and other women) are often placed into either category.
The song also seems to be influenced by other themes in previous music about wanting to stay away from the media and negative rumours after what she went through in 2016, as her partner at the time of this song’s release was a private, less well known artist. There may also be some allusions to smoking weed based on the reel and video for the song, but it isn’t predominatly about that. Her including a trans man in the video was pretty irrelevant to the song and just her supporting the community, as she has with including mostly LGBT artists to open for her tour.
Because.. gasp.. she is ‘woke’ (aka left wing) and has made that very clear with her making explicit statements supporting democrat politicians on social media, and having all of her social circle be other openly left wing people.
I don't think she's woke. she is left-wing because that's what is expected, but she had no actual facts in her head about issues, only what the l/w media narrative is. Well, we all have friends like that. many of her songs are about falling in love, getting married, and these aren't woke ideas at all. The fact she's now broken up with Joe suggest SHE was the problem (oh yeah, she told us that in Antihero). or maybe Joe is too boring? (looks that way!) who knows. I'm sure we'll get a great album, a new era, and more entertainment.

“Is ‘lavender haze’ a gay thing??” 😂😂
Also, whoever edits Michaels videos, is amazing 👏🏼
The answer to the title of the video is obvious. She wants everyone's money, so shes both based and woke.
also lavender haze is A type of cannabis strain. Lavender Haze is a sativa-dominant hybrid cannabis strain that is known for its relaxing and euphoric effects. It is a cross between the strains Haze and Lavender. Lavender Haze has a sweet, floral aroma and a taste that is reminiscent of lavender and berries. It is a popular choice for medical marijuana patients who are looking for relief from stress, anxiety, and pain.
Have you memorized the whole catalogue?
Lavander haze is a turn of phrase to being in love. She spoke of it in a video explaining the song. I honestly don't think she is full woke. Her woke "moment" was during Lover era and it was viewed as childish and honestly made her less relatable. She's kinda stopped beating that drum ever since. I loved your analysis of Anti-Hero. As a Swiftie i think lavander haze, while catchy, is kindof a nothing burger and there really isn't too much deep context in it apart from being she wants to be in love vs love isn't enough for her, vs the medias idea of what her love should be.
I honestly had no idea her Love interest in the video was trans either. 😂 I don't think that's necessarily "woke" I think sometimes in this day an age being an artist of any kind actor, singer, etc... It HAS GOT to be difficult navigating cancel culture. She was already cancelled once for something she didn't do and that was very traumatic for her. As people messaging you to kill yourself would be for anyone. So i wonder if some of these quote on quote "woke" choices might just be self-preservation for an artist as large as she is.
Lavender Haze itself is a song about her actually being in love vs what the medias idea of her being in love is. The phrase "Lavander Haze" she heard on an episode of Mad Men during the pandemic and it means being in love, falling in love, and that love is a Lavander Haze that consumes you. "All they keep asking me. Is if I'm going to be your bride." Is because more often then not the media focuses on her dating life not her music. Even being in a stable relationship with Joe for 6 years didn't stop the media from prying. "The only kinda girl they see, is a 1 night or a wife." Is simply stating that being a fling or being a bride are the two big headlines so the media can't seem to get off those two types of stories. Fake engagement rumours etc. Now, post us realizing that Taylor and Joe have now split I think this song is deeper than we all realized. It's a comment on how her relationships can never grow organically. There's always going to be outside noise and most of her partners won't be able to take it. And she just wants to stay in the Lavander Haze with them but it's not possible. "Talk your talk and go viral I just need this love spiral." I think that Taylor's songs at this point are written for the fans. Let's face it she has a huge fanbase she doesn't NEED more fans. So her poetry is speaking directly to us. Which is why the lyrics might seem cryptic to a non-swiftie because we know what she's referencing as her fans. I think she writes her songs like letters to close friends in ways sometimes that only we can understand.
Why the essay
Good analysis!
I enjoy these song breakdowns and video analysis. Hope you do more.
Though many commenters have corrected the meaning of "lavender haze", there are terms regarding lavender that refer to homosexuality, so I'm not surprised Michael drew that incorrect conclusion.
That's a trans model she is with, so not a man a biological woman
Why, after listening to this, ummm, video do I have the urge to crank Black Sabbath Paranoid?
Great analogy and insight. When grounded, a person lives in reality with a clear mind without haze. The opposite message of this song - ha
2:11 no it's not. It's associated with Straight people. So, the song did Lavender bashing, Heaven bashing, & Purple bashing. (Note: Lavender is a holy herb that has to do with Adam & Eve.)
I didn't know Lavender was considered a gay thing, I always associated with relaxation because of how soaps & stuff use lavender in them. I thought the haze part meant she wanted to be on a (drug?) high which is similar to what the honeymoon phase is
I love how Michael always looks for the deeper meaning, although with this song I don't think there was one.
Would love to see his reaction to BTS Blood Sweat and Tears for his interpretation. And Heagum by Agust D would be fun too.
lol. you clearly don't know anything about taylor swift. there's always a million easter eggs. (she's already said she is trying to drop hints 3 years in advance). the koi fish, there's a meaning. the star signs, that means something. the Eiffel tower lamp, yep, I get it. some lyrics relate back to other songs.
the trans dude in the bed..... ZERO meaning, that is just woke stuff to keep the left on side.
actually I don't like this song much at all and can't fathom why it was released as a single. but. the video is very pretty.
I’m convinced Taylor Swift is obsessed with herself.
@Andromeda and her boyfriend is a male version of herself
Ps Her love interest is trans. (Check it for yourself)
I think she’s fully woke
But I still love her music
Lavender haze is apparently just an old fashioned phrase for that lovely, sweet excitement of when you first meet somebody you adore, that fades fast when real life hits, or getting to know them better you don't like them so much anymore. It's really not more complicated than that.
Okay, whichever editor put Kanye’s “Famous” in the intro of a video of Michael reacting to T-Swift needs a promotion immediately. That’s hilarious.
Lavender haze sounds like a trendy smartphone color
That ending... are you guys at daily wire for real?😂😂😂
The clips of Michael at parties, bars, and clubs 😂😂😂😂😂
I don't think Taylor Swift is full woke like some people are saying, I think she and her team are just playing to what's popular. It's more of a causual corporate wokeness than an actual commitment to the ideology. I still really enjoy some of her albums, especially Red, 1984, and Folklore. Athough the older I get the more I notice that her music really over-romanticizes hookups I'm
what? she has never ever glorified casual sex. btw, we have the same 3 fave albums. ♥💙🤎
You’re basically gaslighting yourself into believing she’s not woke cuz you like her🤣🤣🤣 she’s super woke bro. Get over it

Taylor Swift is a business, she understands what needs to be done in order to stay popular. Middle aged southern white guys are not her demographic she needs to keep as customers, it is young white women and girls. If you want to better understand her demographics then you should have waited in line at Record Store Day on 4-22-2023 at your local independent record store. It was young girls with their parent who waited in line for 10 hours or more just to buy her new album release Folklore the long pond sessions. I also talked to other Indie retailers who said people waited from 7 pm the previous night just to be the first to buy her album and the shop opened at 8 am. So whether she is woke or based has nothing to do with it, she is smart business wise.
Her fanbase is diverse ... Sure majority of it are females but most of them are adults and she has black, white, old, young, male female fans... Not just little kids. I'm 27 and a Swiftie since 2008.
@@Azarath_Metrion_Zinthos You backup my opinion, seeing you were 12 when you became a fan seeing you say you are 27 and became a fan 15 years ago, that would go for most of the other demographic you point out, they start out young and continue thru adulthood. Most fans don't stop supporting her once they turn 21. I didn't stop listening to the Carpenters once I became an adult.
It’s usually white and asian women I agree but I dont think the majority of her fans are kids I’d say they’re mostly in their 20’s
you must be kidding. She is woke as hell. She’s been woke ever since she stopped producing country music and sold her soul
She didn’t sell her soul she just got bigger and bigger and yeah she got woke but at least she still loves her family and is kind to ppl and honestly she isn’t sam smith or the stupid kardashins or Megan fox selling their souls to satan and at least she is smart
Wtf? Sold her soul? Lol these conservatives are hillarious. And I'm sure she isn't woke like many celebs nowadays.

Lavender is purple i.e. "Purple Haze" (which I always took to denote being high when Hendrix sang it).
I’ve seen this music video and heard this song 100times+ and never knew her love interest was Trans and Lavender is a nod to the trans community, I feel completely deceived.
Lavender Haze is an old expression from the 1950s, it means being completely in love. It has nothing to do with transgenderism. Granted; the person playing the love interest in the video is trans, but so what? If you like the song why does it matter?
Dump her.
Well, Mr. Knowles. Was it necessary to play the song in its entirety? I mean, I could actually feel my IQ slipping away, near the end there. Also, now, I might be wrong about this, but, I b'lieve her " love interest" is actually a trans...ok..there we go..started my comment before vid was over..
Yes the “guy” in the video is trans
@@LuckyGhoul no way?? A biological woman is never going to have that muscular physic. I know there's women bodybuilders but nothing like that guy in the video.

The “of space” edit took me by surprise ,nearly crying 😂😂😂
I was so sure it was about drug and a drugtrip :-) . Anybody else noticing the last joke about her not seeming too "happy" at the end of the video ??? Savage!
As always the editor is 👌👌👌
She said she heard the phrase from watching mad men and it meant being in that 1st phase of love when you just want to be in that bubble with those chems in yor brain. And not worry about what others say. But when i heard it thought she was talking trans..... shes in hollyweird so they got to to stay relevant.
I just love how they edit your face in places😂😂
What does lavender haze mean?
To be 'in the lavendar haze' means to be deeply in love with someone or in the honeymoon stages of a relationship, it's a common phrase from the 1950s.
Prior to the album's release, Taylor dished on each song's meaning during her 'Midnights Mayhem With Me' video series, she spoke about the first track: "I happened upon the phrase when I was watching Mad Men and I looked it up ‘cause I thought it sounded cool.
"And it turns out that it's a common phrase used in the ‘50s where they would just describe being in love, like if you were in the lavender haze that meant you were in that all-encompassing love glow - and I thought that was very beautiful," she explained
She is pandering to her base. Which includes Mulvaney.
She fills a couple of albums with love songs about him, including the lyrics “I like shiny things but I’d marry you with paper rings” and then complains about people wanting that 1950’s shit for her - whatever that means.
Huh?
It turned out this song was copium. They ended up breaking up because he didn’t want to marry her and her latest song she released last week says “And I wouldn’t marry me either / A pathological people pleaser / who only wanted you to see her”
You can want to be a married woman but not be a 1950s housewife.
I love Michael analysing music and their videos ❤
I thought lavender haze was a reference to a calming state of mind being in love or a Marijuana reference 🤔
she was sitting on the bed and suddenly a cloud of purple smoke came from underneath the best, looked like a fart, nothing more...
Thats a transgender model in the video, she is woke af. She told all of her fans to vote for biden harris, and at that point I really lost respect for her. Im not really into her newest album. But I was a huge fam of her when I was younger.
Lavender Haze is a phrase from the 50s that means to be so deeply in love with someone that you're oblivious to what's happening around you.
Lavender Haze is a Starbucks drink that’s off menu.
Please do "Would've, Could've, Should've" from the 3am edition of the Album!!!
Great song
he won't get it at all. 1) he missed the koi fish reference 2) he doesn't know it's a sister song to Dear John
but, he might find "Bigger than the whole sky" interesting, as it seems to be about miscarriage or abortion. This song should give conservatives hope that Taylor is not quite as lost as we claim.
@@ssp4795Disagree. Would've could've should've has a lot of religious refrences that many swifties haven't even picked up on. I think Michel would understand the song better than most fans
@@nilay_nur Sure but he won't get the implications of it. It's about her being groomed at 19. He might understand the religious portrayals but he won't understand it as fully as we fans do

That vinyl with the constellations has the constellation of her zodiac sign, Sagittarius and the constellation of Pisces, which is the zodiac sign of her, most recent ex Joe Allen, who she was with for six years. Also, the Koi fish could be a nod to Joe’s Pisces sign because fish are the Pisces and she has a blue guitar with a Koi fish on it and she play the guitar and her speak now world tour back in 2010 and she also featured it in the antihero music video.

Okay, what is the song about then?
If Taylor swift is based then am superman
Hilarious that Michael Knowless didnt clock Laith Ashley until someone told him then proceeds to call him a "chick". Whatever dude.
I don't know much of Taylor Swift's work so I appreciated Michael's take on the imagery in the video. Because they used carp/koi as the fish I did not think of the ocean because they are freshwater fish. Also, I didn't think of space when Taylor was stroking her lover's back, I thought of Heaven. The song came across to me as a rather cynical assessment that love isn't all it's cracked up to be, but infatuation is fun. Of course, that is not untrue.
I find her music boring and I wouldn't have listened to it all the way through except I was curious about Michael's assessment.
Also I kept waiting for some association / relation to Jimi Hendrix' Purple Haze
The sea in the Bible stands for sin.

Taylor wrote the song about being madly in love in the honeymoon phase. I get so annoyed when people try to make it a gay thing 😂. I love the Kaylor theories too but come on people.

Taylor said that lavender haze is a term they used in the 50s that means falling in love or being in love. Their is not hidden message in this song other then not wanting to get married and just wanting to stay in the haze of love. Which is not something that just Taylor feels I think this is a problem of feminism and the fact that Taylor is such a powerful woman makes it hard for her to want to be tied down in a traditional marriage.
I love this song and I love Taylor! She is free to hire whoever she wants in her music videos I don’t really care
Lavender haze refers to the first throws of romance, the honeymoon stage. This stage has such power that you will do everything to hold onto it. Yep ...good times....

Taylor is always breaking up with men, so I’m taking the “lavender haze” with a huge truckload of salt.

This is funny af to read considering the song was about a 6-year relationship that had a new tabloid every week claiming she was engaged or got secretly married.
ffs. you don't know what you are talking about, she's been in a 6year relationship, Joe was there from Reputation through to Midnights. 5 albums. they wrote songs together.
this annoys me so much, that you are here on this channel thinking you are better than those "CNN watching lefties", but here you are, spouting nonsense fed to you by the media.

they really had the beat to 'famous' playing at the beginning
It is one of those songs. Mellow, a tiny bit catchy (but not so much you actually think of looking up who performed it) that's nestling comfortably between far more intense songs. The Video is full of iconography, the titular lavender tones and of course Taylor and a guy as a boytoy.
Well, if i would be a Taylor fanboy i'd probably drool over it, but this...."nice....but next!"
To me the message if the song was obvious, the symbolism of space I think is being used to describe a feeling that is infinite or everlasting. Vague and corny it may be, I don't think the song is trying to be based or woke, it's just a corny love song. She's had so many public relationships that are closely scrutinized by the media that this song sounds like she isn't going to let all that distract her in the future and undermine her will to love someone new and finally make it last.
what Knowles doesn't know, is that Taylor puts a lot of symbolism into her videos, for the fans. (did you spot the Eiffel tower lamp? a reference to "Paris" off the album). the koi fish have meaning (too much to explain), the star signs on the Mastermind album cover (mastermind is another track we hope will be a future single) features the star signs of Taylor and Joe. there are lyrics that relate back to other songs.
Knowles should hire a proper Swiftie consultant, cos he looks like an idiot (although that title, Queen Bitch Idiot, goes to Candace)
Taylor Swift is not woke...shes a master strategist and a genius in marketing...she supports certain ideas just to cater to her fans and to expand her brand...a talented Shylock
I guess she also has her entire social life include other left wing people to fully commit to the bit? Why is it hard to believe a woman in her 30s in the entertainment industry would believe politically what she puts in all of her music..
I love this song, I love Taylor Swift, and I love Michael Knowles. All three of them are great❤
Good morning, Michael, your 1950’s statement at the end is spot on. I want to invite you to do a little more research on the internet. You will find a tiny detail that’s not gay and confirms what you said about the 1950’s reference.
That was a painful listen - very unappealing. Artificial sounding voice laid over a beat laid over a noise like a distant, muffled radio.
Isn’t that a transgender man on the video?

The song is a Piscean inspired song song, about being in love, uncommited, feeling dreamy, yet awake. Making everything fewl like a fantasy.
In yhe begining younsee the zodiac constellations of Pisces and Sagittarius, and throughout the video you see the bature, haziness, and dreamy state of pisces.
She uses lavender, fishes, 12, dreams, disassociation, love... All Pisces.
Just say you don’t know what Lavender Haze actually means, Michael.
Swift is nothing more than a brand. Like Adele. She uses her relationships to define her product i.e her music. Constantly whining how she is the victim of the men in her life whilst making untold millions in the process. But the men in her life are her choice! So if they are all that bad! Then that speaks more about her than it does them.
The reality is more complicated than to say it’s simply one’s choice. Or maybe a better way to explain what I mean is that even choice is inherently complicated. For example, sexual imprinting on offspring by opposite sex parents is a factor in mate selection as well as a host of other things. I agree at a certain stage in adulthood you’d want to be aware of the pattern of “choices” you’ve made and do some work on improving yourself, & really dig down deep as to why you keep making the same ones (requires self-reflection, accountability, responsibility). Many people may not think twice before continuing down the same road because they’ve been wired, so to speak, to do so without breaking that habit or forming new, better ones. The impulses (ie, passions) guiding them are too strong, which is why breaking addictions is such a tenuous thing. But we never know when people will reach that “aha” moment in their lives, if ever, so with this insight I’ve come to criticize others’ “poor choices” more from a place of empathy, because we all have made poor choices, & just pray that they will do some self-correcting before life does it viciously for them.
She doesn't write songs only about how she is the victim. Back to December, for example, is not about her blaming her ex for everything. Listen to it. In her albums folklore and evermore, most of the songs were fictional, not about her life. She has songs about her "good" boyfriends. She has talent for songwriting, that's why she's one of the biggest pop stars. She just takes inspiration from her life and relationships.
