    I really enjoyed this one, cause for 1, they were explained how to eat those foods and seemed to get a nice version of them, unlike some other channels do (looking at you Buzzfeed!) and 2, they were mostly respectful and polite about their preferences, so I actually enjoyed this video. Wish you did more of these!

      stvsueoka1 yep, because the bee's only been consuming nectar. The sparrow's been eating bugs and worms. Or it would in the wild. I probably don't want to know how the spit is collected, especially if the birds are held captive.

    • @stvsueoka1
      @stvsueoka1 Před 7 lety +6

    Bird nests are nests made out of bird saliva. And since the birds actually lie in there, that explains why there are little hairs in the nest. It's incredibly expensive and there are different types of it too. The more red it is, the more expensive. Also it has a grading, the less A's it has, the better quality. So AAA would be better quality than AAAAA. My mom buys it all the time and usually spends more than $200 for the boxes. We prepare it with rock sugar so there will be a sweet flavor instead of it being bland.

    The guy in the check shirt is Chris Chappell, he hosts China Uncensored.
    The guy in the jacket beside him: I don't know his name, but he's fluent in, and teaches Chinese.
    I'm pretty sure they're all CZcams hosts. I think they're in a collective CZcams Studio making this.

  • @amycheng5153
    @amycheng5153 Před 7 lety

    I'm Chinese and grew up with most of the snacks featured, or a variation of them. I would live to try the crabs. They look fun. Octopus is chewy no.matter how it's prepared. I still like it. The nem chu, love that. I get some everytime I stop in for my favorite Vietnamese deli sandwich. The Durian? I think it's cheating. I've never had it, but I know the actual fruit is custardy. The guys had it disguised in a cake, so I don't think they REALLY tried it. Silkworms? Maybe if they were fried they'd look more appealing. LOVE jellyfish with red vinegar! As kids, we'd pretend we were eating rubberbands. Expensive stuff. Bird's nest, usually in a soup. I know where and how it comes from. I opt out, thank you. Lastly, the thousand year old egg. It's done well if the yolk is actually runny. I think some people are put off by it first thing because of the strong sulfuric, almost ammonia smell. Get pass that and put it in congee, like Ben said, or, I like to let it sit for a few minutes in pickled shallots or ginger and soy sauce, with a bit of sesame oil before eating it. Mmm yum!
    My thoughts on their thoughts? It's ok not to like something. You are commended for trying it and giving your thoughts. But try not to say "disgusting" right off the bat, please. That is actually offensive. Maybe "I don't like it" or "That's not for me" or "I don't think so" might do better. As a Knight once said, "Choose wisely." Just an opinion.
    Other than that, thank you to Off the Great Wall and it's affiliated channels and friends for bringing the Asian culture to those who might otherwise not have the opportunity to learn and appreciate it all. I have absolutely learned a lot about being Chinese because of you guys. Thank you!

    @bowmanc.7439 Před 7 lety

    The insect undergoing metamorphosis is my favourite, their internal organs all liquified and when you fry them or marinate them, the liquid hardens and form entire pure protein chunk. It's very nutritious.
    The thousand year old egg or how ever many years you think it has been through, you are eating it wrong. One way is cook it into other dishes for example the egg porridge. But when eating as a snack, you need to sit it with rice vinegar and fresh ginger stripes for a couple of minutes to react with some of the byproducts.
    I think some of the stuff are better and a lot less fishy if you eat them fresh and cooked properly. For example the jellyfish you got is definitely not fresh. I'm not saying it has gone pass the best use before, it's just the way they process those are not good enough.

      lol I did find it funny that the South Asian dude's only comments in the entire video was about how the food smelt bad. There was nothing on the taste, appearance or texture from him.

      Durian is really polarizing. Many native Doutheast Asians dislike/hate durian too. As for balut, I like it.
