    Great playing and advice! My teacher in college, Nick Norton, who was principal trumpet of the Utah Symphony suggested that we should crescendo up the highest note in each 8-note segment in measures 6 and 7. Not that it's a huge deal or anything.

    I like how you are providing an in-time process during the etude.

    If only we would have had a resource like this when I was in high school in the late '70s and early '80s! We had to figure it out ourselves. But hey, some of us still made all-state!

    The characteristic studies are great ..I switched to baritone from trumpet back when I was in school and kept playing the studies.. Just stayed on treble clef music cause I already knew it.. The cadenza page in the arbans book is pretty fun to play around with too..

    Sounds great. In my humble opinion to make the chops more efficient the first 16 bars should be worked out so that there is no break at all. This etude in my opinion is the most difficult of the arban etudes because of the physical demands on trumpet student. More than half my life playing trumpet and I have played it correctly only a handful of times.

      Don't sell yourself short! Keep practicing and improve every day! Even if you don't make it to region this year, you will be closer to making it next year because you are working hard every day.

    Is the sweet part actually supposed to go 112 BPM? I played it at that speed and it seemed much too fast.

    • @TrumpetMasterClasseswithDrBria
      @TrumpetMasterClasseswithDrBria  Před 7 lety +8

      Tempo is relative. There is no such thing as a perfect tempo, it really just depends on how fast or slow you play the sections before or after. Yes, the tempo in each section needs to be consistent, but the individual tempi of the sections may differ based on your ability and phrasing.
      The important thing to remember is that you are a SALESMAN. Everyone else is selling this same piece of music, but may not sell it the same way. You just need to be as convincing as possible with your way. Yes, still observe all of the "ink" and play what's written, but there is a lot of phrasing/musicality that is not written. Play around and have fun with it and you will eventually find your own voice! Good luck!

    So if my district played these etudes my 8th grade year, is it likely by my senior year I'll have to play these? Are they on a 4 year rotation??

    Hi Dr. Shook! Just wanted to say thank you so much for these etude studies! I was just curious, are you going to make one for the third etude? That seems to be the toughest for me and I would really appreciate some proffessional guidance. Thanks

      @TrumpetMasterClasseswithDrBria  Před 8 lety +1

      +ChidsterXD Thank you! I just started working on the third etude. I'm pretty busy and have not been able to dedicate as much practice time as I would like. Good luck!
