Thanks for the photos Lee. I must be getting old because I thought the games today were a bit underwhelming. I'm used to the old days when Salute was about big games being run as demos for the hobby - as I say just me getting old and the hobby is changing which isn't a bad thing. Keep up the good work Lee.
I was thinking the same thing. Lots of small space games.
Most people know about the hobby these days, it’s as big as it’s ever been and still growing! Participation is the way to go at shows and 1 hour long games are also the way to go for maximum players.
The best one I ever saw was 6 tiny 2x2 6mm ancients games happening simultaneously, and the teams were looking to get a win in all 6 games, most tiny victories wins! Games lasted 45 mins.
If you want to get people into the hobby, get the hobby (and some dice) in their hands rather than telling them to look and not touch!
What were the rules for those 6mm ancients??
I agree, though I do think it was slightly better than last year.
There were fewer big historical tables this year, and lots of smaller, skirmish type fantasy/sci-fi games. But the hobby is a broad church and this show is more than one genre.
Thanks for posting :) Especially capturing the game system were you can in the descriiption, please keep doing that.
Thankfully the list of games on the Salute website had a lot of that info, so I was able to include it when I could.
Great pictures. I was there for six and a half hours and still missed most of the games. Looking at this video makes me wonder if I was really there, then I see my pile of purchases and remember what happened. I saw you taking photos late in the day and in my surprise shouted out "Big Lee" to you, it was like seeing someone famous from the TV.
Z'd list celebrity beckons 😆. I had a really good day at Salute and spent a lot of time talking to people. I had loads of people come up to say hello, which is always a little bit surreal.
I didn't spend much though, but that's typical of the last few Salutes I've been to. That is no reflection on the show which I think is excellent, I just don't go to Salute for the shopping anymore. Probably for the best.. I could easily burn through three or four hundred quid in the early days, and regret a lot of it as soon as I got home 🤣
Hey Big Lee! Glad to see that you made it to the show & thanks for sharing your pictures with us! I doubt that I will ever make it across the pond to attend a convention in person... but as they say, "Living vicariously is the next best thing to being there!". Thanks Again!
You bet. But never say never. I met a guy from Brazil who follows the channel (hi!) so managed to sneakily align a family holiday with the weekend of Salute. 🤣
Well Done! Thank You Very Much! PaperBoys at 12:07 are a Blast. a table laden with figures!
That was an impressive looking game.
Thanks Lee. Enjoyed watching through your photos.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed them 😁
Thanks for the photos AND captioning them, it made for an interesting watch.
Glad you enjoyed it. I had the captions prepared before the show, so I could drop them in quickly. It normally takes ages to identify and match all the games but this year i had A PLAN! 🤣
@@MiniatureAdventuresTV - The captioning was excellent. Adds so much to the photos! Well done.
Appreciate your photos and run through of salute as new Zealand a long way away to do a day trip haha so good to see the show and all the tables many thanks lee
My pleasure! I'm glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for the photos they look brilliant I hope you had a great day out there a managed to get to play with some of the toys🤠🤠
I did indeed. Exhausted but happy
It was good show in many respects, if a little tiring on my old legs. I bought a variety of things from various suppliers, making savings on postage even with the rain and entry costs. The bloggers meet was nice, if underrepresented this year. Best of show I would have to say is Gallants of Fowey. That isn't to say others wouldn't have been worthy winners. I'm not a naval man, or play naval games of any sort, but this was a sight to behold firsthand.
That was a brilliant game. I also enjoyed the Stalingrad game of What a Tanker. Two great games that stood out for me.
Thanks Lee, first again with a viddy for us! Well done!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Fabulous round up and super speedy reporting 👍
I did a lot of prep before the show to speed up the after show report.
Thanks for the pics, Lee! Lots of time and effort goes into this - much appreciated!
My pleasure!
Wow that is some comprehensive coverage of the event, well done getting so many pictures. A great day out , we really enjoyed it.
Thanks so much 😊
Thank you from someone who sadly could not make it this year. Hopefully next year ....
Agree with Peter below. First visit for me since 2015 and it wasn't anything like I expected.
It's definitely changed, but I guess so has the community. There were more small demos and more fantasy/sci-fi but also some big historical games. Plenty of variety and something for everyone.
Thanks for the tour around Salute. Enjoying seeing what is out there.
Glad you enjoyed it
I thought today was one of the better Salutes - I don't go for the demo games, it's the traders and the craic. I left at 4pm and the place was still quite full, other years it's dead by 3pm. Met lots of people and bought plenty of goodies, what more can you ask?
I'm the other way around. I went to see the games (and to meet people) but I hardly bought anything, same as last year. But thats the beauty of a show like Salute, its whatever you want from the day and no one has to enjoy it the same way.
Great pics thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
These videos are always great. Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Did you see games by the Frothers guys? Absolutely brilliant.
They had Trumpocalypse on again this year...sadly it never gets old! 🤣
@@MiniatureAdventuresTV so true! I don't think it ever will 😀
Hi Lee, great to be able to see this event, which I am highly unlikely to ever attend being in NZ. The multitude of skirmish size games however, to me makes it a bit underwhelming. A few battle size demo games are a great drawcard to encourage newbies, simply due to their grandeur which can spark the imagination & want to replicate, particularly in youngsters (I know it did with me MANY years ago). I know that peoples wallets don't stretch as far these days, so Tyros will probably end up playing these smaller games, until they can afford to upgrade to battles (if that is their want).
The predominance of smaller 'skirmish' games is a subject I'm going to address in next weekends Talking Point video. Essentially I think its partly a change in the 'market' (less money, less space, less time means more inexpensive, small and quick to play games) but also reflective of Salute becoming more of a Trade show.
Cheers for all the photos Lee - such variety!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great roundup - thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for this Lee... I didn't want it to finish. Great Stuff
Glad you enjoyed it. I left a bit early but I had been in since 8am so I was exhausted by the time I left about 4pm
Thanks for the photos. Some great games there!
You bet!
Great video some great stuff on show today
Yes it was, I enjoyed the variety.
Excellent, thanks Lee, I was hoping to get over from France but sadly renovating the chateau still! See you at Partizan though
Cheers
Matt
French Wargame Holidays
It happens. I've missed a few Salutes do to holiday clashes, especially when the kids were at school and my wife was a FT teacher. If the Easter holidays fell over Salute weekend I knew I was out of luck. However, this kids are grown and the wife teached PT so can be more flexible with holidays. Hopefully no more clashes in future.
Thanks, only way I will see these conventions
Glad you enjoyed the vid.
Great video. Some lovely tables. It didn’t seem that busy was it just because the venue is so big and everyone is spread out. Did you buy anything nice ??
Some of the early photo's were taken before the show had fully opened. Plus the layout was well space to avoid crushes. Overall I think visitor numbers were good, and it stayed busy all day.
Very thorough, well done! What lens did you use for this?
Just Microsoft Movie Maker. Its not a fancy video editor but it is simple to use and does the job
@@MiniatureAdventuresTV Sorry, I meant what lens on the camera? Is it a zoom?
thanks!!
You're welcome!
Really cool. 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great photos Lee. As a kiwi down under, I ask, is Salute the biggest wargames show in the UK?
The biggest one day event. But each of the large UK shows have their own style and flavor. Salute isn't for everyone, but as a showcase for the whole tabletop gaming hobby its pretty good.
Quite likely that Salute is the world’s biggest wargames show.
The USA has some pretty big events, but in terms of number of visitors, I suspect Salute is the largest.
Great pics. However.......Salute gets more like a sci-fi convention every year. Not why I started down the miniature wargames route at all. But if the demand is there, fair dos.
It's not for everyone but it is the sign of a hobby that is far from dying out. And today's sci-fi wargamers can only become historical wargamers with the help of other historical wargamers.
Sorry I missed you this year Lee. My day was so hectic. It was such a busy Salute this year, wasn't it?
Was it hectic? The photos seem to say the opposite.
Vast empty spaces everywhere.
@@sirrathersplendid4825 I think it was well spaced out. It was definitely tricky to get to some stalls first thing
It seemed very busy, even later on the day when numbers usually drop off a bit.
The photos are great but it doesnt look that busy were the numbers down?
About 6400-6500 tickets, still waiting final door counts!
Saw you today at the show but you were a bit occupied.
I felt like I was talking all day. I actually had a sore throat by the time I went home 🤣
Oh Storm Troopers…yawn🤣
Not your bag I take it 😉
