@MrJuego She isn't immobile. She does go somewhere. She climbs, jumps, rolls around on the table, and rubs the various pieces of equipment in the studio. Not going out isn't equivalent to 'doesn't go anywhere '.
As a Ridgeline owner, they are boring, uninspiring, but reliable and practical. Great at what it is, a "truck" for people who need a truck but don't want one.
I've always called them the "perfect modern ubran truck". And obviously they were a head of the curve on this one, because the Santa Fe and Maverick are just copying their homework. The biggest issue with the Ridgeline is just the pricing point. Other than that - if we can't have small efficient usable trucks like we did in the 90's (i.e. Ranger/S10/Tacoma) the Ridgeline is the next best thing. Sadly, most people I see driving them are Senior citizens or near retirement.
I had a tundra, sold it, and now I have a ridgeline. It drives so smooth. The tundra felt like a school bus.

I can say that my dad had an Escalade of that era. 365,000 miles of abuse. Towed and hauled above weight rating on a regular basis. My brother and I pounded on it regularly. That motor never skipped a beat. The only reason he got rid of it was rust. Midwest winters are tough. 😂

Neelix is absolutely part of the team; I think she may need to renegotiate her contract to include her own chair. My 1983 911SC has over 180,000 miles and counting, and I know of several 911 drivers (mostly through the PCA) that have more than that. One couple has more than 500,000 miles on their 911 Turbo. Carroll Shelby famously said: "Thank god there's no 48-hour race anywhere in the world, because chances are nobody could beat Porsche in a 48 hour race. They're probably the only cars in the world that would stand up for something like that." As to the Niva (Lada 4x4), they were rusting on the assembly line...

Many of the cars on the list seem to be ones that may not give the owner 250K trouble-free miles, but rather cars that are bought by people who would be likely to fix anything that goes wrong along the way.
If that is the case then I’d expect more Subarus on the list.
My 05 Chevy Silverado 5.3L has 247,000+ miles on it. 180psi compression on all 8 cylinders still! 40psi idle oil pressure hot.
Best engine ever.
My 2006 Ford Taurus has 254,000 miles on it, so far. It still has the original engine and transmission, and the interior is fairly clean. I keep fresh fluids and filters in it, and detail the interior twice a year. I want to see how close to 500,000 I can get it. It may be boring and slow, but it's comfy and thieves hate it.

Lada Niva 4x4 is usually clapped out by 200 thousand kilometers not miles. my dad had one for work and the engine at the end was eating oil at an alarming rate
I'm with you April Rose that the Buick Grand National was certainly the most important car that Buick had. It likely saved Buick from the ash pile of history. Great choice!

Owner of a 2016 Porsche 911 here (991.2 - C2S and yes, the 991.2 was available as a 2016 model in the RoW) currently sitting on 83,000 mostly trouble free miles (2 new turbos last year and a new exhaust the year before, all under Porsche warranty!). As my daily driver doing 25,000 miles a year I fully intend to be the exception to Hoovie's proclamation that no-one would ever drive a 911 to 250,000!

@@scottnunya2441 Depends on perspective I guess, the wastegates seized due road salt (exhaust failed due to road salt too, valve actuators to be precise but entire back box replaced). Perhaps in a sunnier part of the world it wouldn't be a problem.

I was referring to that if the turbos failed (I'm assuming wastegates are integrated), wouldn't that make the car undrivable, which means it wouldn't be on the list to make it 250K miles. After all, any car can make it to those miles as long as you repair anything that breaks.
@@scottnunya2441 Yes, integrated wastegates. Mine both failed in varying degrees of being open so minimal boost was being built. The car was still drivable just noticeably down on power. If they'd failed in the closed position there'd have been overboost and probably a CEL. But I agree with you, anything on the Jalopnik/Hoovies list isn't going to make it to 250,000 without some kind of repairs at some stage.

I don't know why April hates the prowler so much I think it's a good looking car it's a modern interpretation of a 50s hot rod yes they're slow underpowered but I've seen people doing Hellcat and Hemi conversions on them

Edit: Love the old version of the Niva. Was used here by a local national park the last time Lada tried itself in Canada. The director (or whatever that position is called) argued that the workers totaled their 10 000$+ pick up as fast as those 2000$ Lada, so it was less costy to replace the Niva than the pick ups.

That all depends on your driving habits. I own a 2010 RX450H that has over 275k on it. The car has spent it's whole life in southern Wisconsin, and it has been a great vehicle.

I have a '06 Kia Sportage with over 300k...I have an 05 Pathfinder with over 300k, a 99 GMC with 280k, and a 04 Tarus with 285k living in the Rockies all on original motors and trans...want a long-lasking car, its a simple thing...do the maintenance.
Since I own a Maverick, I will say that the Hybrid is a bit of a stretch lasting 250,000 miles. To this day, they're experiencing issues with the hybrid batteries with the "deep sleep mode" on many 23s and possibly 24s along with other electrical issues. Not to mention the recalls on the first couple of model years. I have the Ecoboost Maverick which you forgot to mention that is relatively trouble-free. I have more confidence in that engine lasting 250,000 miles with the inevitable turbo replacements since none will last that long. The engine and transmission itself should be pretty durable considering this is a carry-over platform that they've used in countless other Fords such as the Taurus, Escape, Fusion and Focus. Some of the other cars on this list are completely out of wack, especially the Lucid Air. I don't know what they're smoking at Jalopnik but they need to get off of it ASAP!

Tyler, is the 2014 Audi A8L diesel included on your list along with the Volkswagen diesel you mentioned? My sister refused to give it up and is still driving it 10 years later, sometimes on 400 mile trips to visit family several times a year.
They actually used to have replaceable batteries for mobile phones. The manufacturers decided two things. 1. No more replaceable batteries so they can be better waterproof. 2. If they don't have replaceable batteries, then people are forced to buy a new phone so more money.
My ‘07 Chevy Express with the mighty 4.8 currently has 271567 mi. Still going.
Both of my kids drive a Prius, and neither of them are gentle with them...Yet they have 280,000 and 320,000 miles on them and they both are still going strong. The Prius is one hell of a boring car.

I live in a bus with 480,000 miles and it's considered low mileage as they are designed to last 3 million miles.

I drove the first year Ridgeline, a 2006 that had 238,000 miles on it when I sold it. It ran flawlessly - no transmission issues, engine was smooth from idle to cruising speed. All I ever replaced was the steering pump. They definitely aren't for everybody looks-wise, but the damn thing is bullet-proof!
Anything with the old school 350 Chevy V8 will live forever.

I love my Ridgeline! does what i need it to do, rides great and love the trunk, great gas mileage too, averaged 26mpg on the highway!
The Mazda CX5 i think for it's class is the best exterior (i absolutely love the exterior design) and interior design, it definitely is a little underpowered but it's one of the better driving experience for it's class.

My daily jalopy driver is a VW Passat with the boring 2.5 engine. It's not stressed, it's well maintained and its the last VW engine that I trust. It, will make 200,000. Possibly 250,000 with a new PVC valve cover and new timing chain. I like non turbo, non direct injection engines for reliability. For my fun car I have Turbo, Direct injection Audi. That's good for possibly 80,000. Its that simple. Hard working low displacement engines are short distance runners.
I was writing about the VW TDI when you mentioned it. I'm sitting in my Sportwagen TDI manual in a parking lot rn. I'm at 130k miles now. I had a 2000 Golf TDI that was run into several times it stayed in my family till about 350k. My mom had a 2012 Sportwagen that she sold back to VW during Diesel Gate because she already had over 100k in about 3 years and they gave her so much back that it didn't make sense to keep it. It was also a DSG which are great as long as the fluid changes are kept up on but they were expensive so some people skipped them. I also have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit EcoDiesel. I know people say those were unreliability but I bought mine new have stayed up on the maintenance, especially do the fuel filters, and I am about to hit 190k with no signs of problems 🫰. My diesel truck will run a long time but that's not a surprise, it's pre-DEF. BTW my tag on my Sportwagen is DSLGATE
In Europe those generations of TDi are know to fail..... the late 90s early 2000s 1.9 TDi (Like Bora/Golf IV/Passat) can do 250k miles easy 400 k is not something special in europe. Those new VW are crap.... there were so many bulletproof diesels in Europe like the Citroen HDi 1.6 and 2.0, Volvo 2.4 5 cyl, Isuzu 1.7 in Opels, BMW M57 3.0 in E46 and E90, Benz OM648 inline6 (milion miles without rebuild), not to say about van engines which some can do 600k-800k miles easy :)
@wyrazowfkp the emissions system, even without the DEF can be a problem especially the EGR depositing carbon, the DPF getting clogged, and VW originally said either 130k or 150k miles to replace the timing belt but later put out a service bulletin to replace it around 100k. My neighbor has a 11 Sportwagen TDI DSG. She takes it to the dealer for everything and when I asked if they had recommended the timing belt she said no. It's in having it done now at around 110k. She just had an extremely expensive repair to the entire emissions system. I suggested letting me really "fix it" for a lot less, get better mileage, and be a lot more reliable but she didn't want to 🤷♂️. I plan on running my Grand Cherokee and my Sportwagen till they die. I have a lift at home and a decent amount of skills but also the knowledge to know when to take it to someone so I hope to see at least 300,000 out of both. I sold my last Silverado 3500 Duramax to a mechanic friend when it hit 300k because I use it to tow around the US and don't want to have any problems when I'm in the middle of nowhere. I got rid of a 2021 Ford F-450 Platinum after about 19k miles to get a 2009 Chevy Silverado 3500 because I had issues with the DEF system so I wanted something pre-emissions. I found one with 46k miles I'm at 115,000 now and think I'll keep it till around 300k again. I'm a huge diesel fan and wish we got more like Europe had. My best friend's dad had a 87 M-B 300 E TD when we were growing up. It went through him and his 2 sister's before finally getting junked at around 400k. Unfortunately the EPA here in America is doing their best to get rid of all the diesels and have been very successful. It's been almost a decade since you could get a diesel car here 😭

Owner 5: is maybe 20 years old, its held together with zip ties, Chinese eBay turbo and no muffler... drifts it everywhere, bought for $5000 with blown enigne at 185k miles in 2021.

As the owner of an all original and stock 16K mile 1987 Grand National, I agree with April. Oh, and how did NOBODY list, or talk about the Toyota Land Cruiser? It's the ultimate 250K +++ mile long lasting vehicle in my book.
Had to laugh at the 300 comments. As anyone who's owned a 1st Gen LX car will tell you all the stuff that breaks are the superior "German Engineered" suspension parts, ball joints, LCAs, things like the Clockspring, shifter interlock are also from the Merc parts bin and always fail.... The 2011+ cars got a bunch of re-designed parts that made them way way better.

As an ex Lada Niva owner I have to say that it is absolutely not a troll. They are bare bones, basic, and indestructible off-roaders. Pretty much the same design since the 70's. A Niva can easily last 250k miles and much beyond.
My 10-year-old Tesla has 175,000 miles on it, original battery I’m sure it will make it too 250,000 no problem

There used to be a time that you popped the back cover off your phone and put in a new battery. It was easy. And in the early days you could get replacement batteries with leds in a pot leaf shape at your local mall. 😂. The old Nokia days. As far as phones we went back in time.
