I’m a package handler lol. We have to unload 20-60,000 packages within 5 hours. Trucks can cary 500-2,000 packages with walls up to 10 feet tall. Trailers turn into saunas in the summer and freezers in the winter. We’re instructed to care more about our physical health than things that can be reordered. It’s also extremely difficult to worry about every single order when going through 2-3k packages per shift. By the 3rd hour everyone just wants to get it done and over with. Things mainly get messed up while the truck is moving anyways. It’s always a mess when the doors first open. Mangers open the bay doors, and literally have to run away from falling boxes. Mainly boxes labeled “Chewy” containing 1 or 2 bags of animal food.
I used to work at ground as a package handler. How fast we have to fill the quota is vastly more important to the managers than the state of the packages, so literally nobody gives af about the packages there.
not to mention the ducts the boxes go through. boxes are dropped onto others, smash in the sides of others. some come completely exploded. Ive watched heavy boxes smash fragile boxes full of pottery or glass. don’t ship through fedex ground youll have better luck with fedex express

It’s a numerous of things , package handlers, drivers not caring because they have 200 plus stops and getting paid 130 a day no overtime cheap contracted managers who do illegal stuff just to get the route out they don’t care
Working as a package handler is hard. You have to go at a fast paced and reach a goal of how many packages per hour. Also having to carry heavier items. For 1 package handler there's 3 trucks they have to fill up so its not easy. The conveyer built goes quick so the worker has to move as quick.
Sounds like yall are understaffed AF. All it takes is ONE dude coming in and overworking, doing way more than the average worker and boom, everyone else is expected to reach that same goal in that same time frame. I feel so awful for yall, tobbe moving that fast paced nonstop.🤦♀️ I couldnt do it.
I work at FedEx Express and this is so true, i will say that we deal with packages non stop for hours on end, heavy, light, obnoxiously large, incredibly small, and even car parts, something is bound to get torn, wet or destroyed
My coworker will chuck the box if it's small & rigid into the van lines if he's in a rush 😂 Yeah if the package is weak & hollow (despite size), then it will probably get crushed under everything in the trailers & chutes. Invest in a strong box!

I work at fedex express and yea ive seen a few boxes broken open and i myself broke one package open... Simply bc management wants y to get the work done quickly they don't want u to stop the belt, package get throen on the floor and sometimes just dall bc tge belt id so full..

They also put your parcels on conveyor belts for sorting that drop them 12 feet into a bin and some plants do this manually where workers actually sort packages and literally throw them up to 30-40 feet into corresponding bins for different routes

Worked loading foot lockers filled with belongings from Iraq & Afghanistan. In tri-walls on top of pallets. Before loading each goes to inspection which I did myself. Making sure no illegal & sensitive items are inside (rocks, sand, preserved little critters (camel spiders), STANAG magazines for M4s & M16s, grenades, ammo. As it arrives in the US (CONUS) foot locker is in one piece delivered by USPS. Even if it’s a regular box, if delivered damaged they inform the customer.
I hate FedEx with a passion. EVERY TIME there’s a delay. Packages come damaged and just today my package got delivered to someone else’s house. Not to mention it was already delayed when it was supposed to be overnight shipping. It’s a shame the company I order from only has FedEx for shipping options or I would never use them.🖕
As a new fedex delivery driver, i have two questions; 1. Is your street number marked clearly on your house? 2. If you house is weirdly positioned relative the road/accessed by one road but the adress is on an ajacent road, do you put in any customer remarks or requests? If you answered no to either of those, please dont complain about the delivery guy guessing wrong when when they have to play guess which unmarked house is the right one.
And employees forcing them into trucks, often the trucks delivering your box do the most damage. I’ve seen boxes in the terminal getting loaded onto trucks in perfect condition but the rush to deliver them causes the weight to shift, things falling off shelves and if it’s not secured with straps, it falls to the floor. That’s a fact.
I just had my 1st day and can confirm that. My trainer who was driving was doing the worst driving ever. All day I just heard and saw packages falling back there and crunching against others. So the ones that are the last to come off after several hours will be in terrible condition.
another reason: the sorters throwing irregs (as we called them at ups) on the wrong belt. lol. that's another big reason. i can't stand when i need to order something and it's coming through fedex, like my 3000 dollar bike.. was marked as arriving at a fedex facility at 9 pm, then somehow marked as arriving again at the same location at 5 the next morning and it's been sitting there nearly 2 days now.
Takes time to unload and sort trailers , if it’s a 7-10 day delivery window there is no rush, even if it got there days ago . there is no storage in warehouse so it’s just sitting in the trailer waiting to be unloaded .
UPS delivered my "Moringa" powder, (powdered leaf) and it had been run over...you could see the tire marks, and it was leaking all over. Im sivk and tired of ordering online..there is usually some problem. I only ordered because I am disabled and my car was down. No one gives a FLIP about doing their job with pride, or integrity. Well that and they get placed in cargo cans then get shuffled everywhere on the flight ✈️ then get shuffled again at the airport when they place the cans on trucks then shuffled around in transit to the station then from there on a 🚚 to the house gets thrown on belt or slammed on belt to get scanned lol.

It's against the law to put parcels in mailboxes, that's why. And I guarantee you those CDs were damaged long before they got to your porch
