Preemo is not just a DJ...he's a beat engineer, mad scientist, musical savant and jazz enthusiast. He shows so much respect to the original musician's by blessing their instrumentals

He's amazing for sure but that second bit about "him showing so much respect" is not that true, he has so many beats where he has never cleared the samples, can you really call that showing respect?
Yessir! Anyone that got a DJ Premier beat, that was their best only or greatest song in their respective careers. I can’t name one that did better without him!!

THAT IS THE REASON WHY DJ PREMIER IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PRODUCERS IN HIP HOP HISTORY.
What amazes me is how phat the samples sound, he eq's and compresses them until they sound so different. Also he manages to get rid of unwanted sounds like beats and vocals. Pure genius.
He’s so amazing. The trick is with a lot of these old tracks is how the stereo mix is set. If you play just the left channel or just the right channel it often completely removes part of the sound and just leaves the music without the drums etc
@@DJFurio yeah I've tried doing that, but my samples don't sound like his do. You would think that after almost 30 years of doing it I might be better at it by now. Lol. Keep putting out the vids Furio, they are awesome.

A couple of those samples for other rappers tracks were used in Gang Starr interludes too.
Also, nice to see some lesser known (at least as far as my knowledge goes) samples too. I didn’t know he remixed an Ice T classic.
Yeah he did make a few interludes with the same samples. Ice-T remix was luck. He hardly produced anything that year at all.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s easy now with Spotify and CZcams. I still love digging through records in second hand record shops or charity shops to find obscure or classic records. Still a lot of things that aren’t available on streaming.
What Premo An Other DJs / Producers Did Seemed To be A Secret back Then.. You Can Bring Back What Seems Now To be a Lost Art.. Turn that Trash Into a Treasure.. 🤣👍🏿

just my 2 cents here, early to mid 90’s, the sound was still creative, but still coming out the late 80’s. around 96 or so, that’s signature Premo right there. this was when you really had to dig deep and be like, how he do that!

Great video, but my man Michael Legrand sounds a lot like Billy Danze at 22:27. Also 24:54. Surprised Unbelievable didn't make it, but I guess you could make a 20 incredible Preemo beats/songs from 94 alone.

I think the one who deserves the credit is the one who create the tune in the first place .

Depends how the sample is used. You can see that DJ Premier usually finds the most obscure part of a track that most people wouldn’t even think of using. He also chops up his samples and completely rearranges them to make something completely different from the original. He is considered one of the best hip hop producers of all time.
