Subscribed! You have a really deep knowledge about 90s hip hop. This video brought back memories of better days hearing these songs. Wouldnt mind history/hip hop fact videos if you thats something you'd branch out into covering
Thanks for the sub
Huge big up gov'nah!
But look into 'fade' , those cuts mess shit up
Yeah pretty much every video I’ve done since then I’ve faded out
DJs don't get enough credit
It's crazy how rap producers can take all of these obscure, dusty vinyl and then find the smallest detail in the record, loop it, add some drums a new baseline, kicks, snares, 808 bass, keys and turn it into a whole new sound. Shout out to the original composers, I guess nothing is really better than the original because they had to come up with the music from scratch and played actual instruments. But a bigger shout out to the producers for bringing something fresh and new from their music and keeping their music alive with the sample credits which fattens the pockets of many artists keeping their lights on and food on their table.
YESSSS 💯💯
Its an endlessly looping conversation (pun intended) but in the end its all just music.
Best comment ever
thank god use of 808 bass was almost non existend in this period. now shit all sounds the same because of the overuse
@@Jaburu yeah. trap sounds have dominated the landscape for like a decade at least.
Some of the samples were used multiple times for completely different songs. Brilliantly executed.
Glad you like it
Using samples and making a dope beat isn’t cheating it’s called being creative
I can only imagine New York streets just filled with many many record stores, just crammed full of old vinyl. The world was out there and waiting for music in the 90s. Being human music 90s.
This video is golden.
Thanks for watching
Damn my guy. I spent a lot of my youth tracking down all of these original samples and in the process I picked up so many amazing albums. Learned about so many amazing artists that have been forgotten about. Thanks for reminding me.
Glad you enjoyed the video
That's what it's about for our children. Research and open mind full stop.
There isn't A way, there are many to be explored.
@Mr John jockywhip Thank you for telling me that I didn't pick up shit. I enjoyed the music and it inspires me to continue to listen to as much as I can.
@Mr John jockywhip You wasted your time and drew me in. CLAP CLAP
Keep trying to tell folks sampling in the 1990s was an artform. Even when you don't recognize the original right away. There was such a diverse plethora of music to choose from. When we lost R&B/Rock music it changed hip-hop drastically.
...that's word!!!
No, no critics say it's stealing the works of others. A lot of the samples presented here are very straightforward but as you mine hip hops catalogue, hip hop producers used all sorts of music and were lovers of it. Reading credits to find producers / engineers so they could find other songs they worked on so that they could collage the perfect sounds into their creations. An artform that very few can do. Give a guitarist an SP1200 snd see if they can masterfully sample to create something.
Factual
I appreciate your insight. I have a question: what do you mean by "when we lost r&b/rock music it drastically changed hip hop?'
@@lisasimpson8003 the well to pull from has dried up or become so generic. While hip hop isn't beholden to sampling, there is a foundational element that seems to be missing. R&b/Rock&Roll are no longer the distinct and reigning genres they once were. The popularity of hip-hop has increased but so has the overall forgettable product being pushed for the most part. Focusing on beats primarily and less on melodic influences/lyricism. There are exceptions of course and evolution is inevitable. However I feel like a great deal of it is sounding like disposable noise of late.
Im always fascinated with hip hop sampling .. Its amazing how producers turn 2 or 3 seconds from an unknown or forgotten song and make magic with those few seconds.. Thanks for making this video
Thanks for watching
That was a pleasure to listen to. 90's hip hop, in my opinion, was the epitome of the art form. Great compilation work! Thank you.
Thanks for watching
90's indeed....
Yea thanks to them sampling
All downhill from 1996
Thank u 70s for paving the best generation of hiphop ever
I love knowing what I DIDN'T know. I've done over 400 hip-hop samples im always treasure hunting and you always dig up gold.LOVE it
Really great comment. Glad you’re still managing to find new samples from watching my videos 👍
I need to follow both of you then hip hop samples always fascinated me .
That Linda Clifford sample was also used in 2Pac's "All Eyez On Me".
Yes
Big up to BOOM BAP! The Golden Era!!!!! Nothing compares to Old School and Boom Bap!
Glad you like the video
Sampling is a real art form: gotta heap some respect on these bonafide music lovers who geeked out on a section of track and looped it for posterity
The very last sample that Nas used was the most creative for me. Changing from the original sound to what it became on Nas is like was genius and the lyrics were 10 out of 10.
RIP DJ FURIO. You will be missed but never forgotten.
That was brilliant, 90’s is definitely the best hip hop, I still listen to all my favourite artists, well done for all your hard work
Appreciate it 👍
Solid gold CZcams find. No surprise though, All those guys grew up on 70s funk and R&B.
Thanks for watching
90s hip hop samples got me into r&b, jazz funk , and everything in between.
Nice
Bob James is heavily sampled for hip hop and r&b.
Yup and he sued most of them too
Yes he is. Fortunately, my father is a big Bob James fan so I grew up knowing this fact as a child. I took my child to a Bob James concert a few years ago and they loved it.
Today's generation of rap can't come close this old school Hip Hop, never ever!
Big ups for including gravediggaz and NiNe. Two of the most influential artists of the 90s who get no respect
Great!!! I think the sample in 11:14 of Nas is the same sample of Tupac in “All eyes on me"🤔🤔 Great video!!!
Yeah it’s the same sample
That’s why I love my 90s !!! 🙏🔥🔥
Me too
This is phenomenal. I can only imagine how much time it took to do the research and put this video together. I had a lot of these but discovered a lot more through this video.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate it 👍
Man, just when i thought i knew everything about what a genius Dilla is, I heard that Drop sample for the first time…
Such a clever sample. It’s why the music video for it is also in reverse.
Nothing's too simple or small to be turned into a killer sample. Kids tv themes, novelty songs...it's all part of the art of hip hop
Black America specializes in taking something from nothing. That's all there is left for Us.
You know what's funny that I am working backwards. Meaning I am finding jazz gems by watching this video and seeing where hip hop tracks got their samples from. I love it.
Glad you like it. Thanks. I’ve made lots more sample videos on my channel if you’re interested. I made this recent one about jazz samples czcams.com/video/-PPByFnHyfk/video.html
Love this. As someone who got massively into this scene through the late 90's and into the 00's it saddens me now to see where it all ended up going. Finding these old tunes and making them into something so unique but yet keeping something of the atmosphere in which they were initially conceived but hard hitting was a true art. There was still so much variety and funk in all these hip hop/rap products it never felt like they were doing the original artists an injustice, much more enhancing their work. I miss that era.
Thanks for watching and glad you like it
When i was young i had no clue that all these beats were build on this samples. This is so fascinating!
Thanks for watching. Check my other sample videos. I’ve made a lot.
What's funny is I have several of both albums, cds and cassettes.
Wow, this is AMAZING. As a fan of rap and hip hop, especially old school, I say Thank you, thank you, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
The way premo flipped that sample for MOP breakin the rules is crazy
Preemo is a genius at chopping samples
a lot of good memories in this. both from samples i already knew, and ones where i was like, 'oh, so that's what it was'
I’m glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Clearly you put a lot of time in this and really no you're hip hop and did quite a bit of research!!, so props! mad props mad props, I look forward to seeing what the rest of your channel has to offer and also I feel very inspired here in these samples so thanks for the inspiration because most people don't ever really inspire --' but I'm inspired now-- and those who do inspire? They're the people who truly honestly make the world beautiful and worthwhile. So, I think your work, no matter else it is, is completely successful. You reaffirmed that life can be a joy.
One of the most amazing comments I’ve ever had. Thanks 😀
I never knew that Pharcyde joint "Drop" was a Dorothy Ashby sample in reverse. Explains the concept of the video.
Yeah the entire video is in reverse. Such a great track
I love taking peoples pieces and taking all of these broken pieces of glass and making a stained glass that is square and sound. Every day of my life that I live.
Sampling is the equivalent to children playing in their grandparents closet dressing up in their old slick fashionable wear.
wow this is great! I was 15 in 1990, loved all this music. Really taking me back, here.
YOOOOO someone actually found that breaking the rules sample!
I remember the wrong song was listed for the longest time
Yeah it’s such a clever use of that sample
Wow! Good work on that sample!
Classic de chez classic ✌️
I'm actually surprised at how many of these surprise me...
Damn look at all this creativity.
Dude you’re giving away the secrets 😂😂✊🏾✊🏾
Word Yk Alot Of Producers Didnt Want People To Know What They Sampled Especially Q Tip , Rza And A Few Others They Kept It A Secret Like A Friendly Competition Thing 🔥🔥💯💯
9.47 for Raekwon - Ice Cream. Brilliant
the 70's is the basis of 90's rap! wow thanks for this discovery
The first song you played was also sampled on "Money Ain't a Thang" by Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri, I believe.
Good spot my dude. I remember that JD album well!
Steve Arrington's " Weak at the knees"! Former lead singer of the group, SLAVE, from Chicago! Album 1983
I heard that too
... Correct... on the popular side... I liked the 3XDOPE version and video
So dope to hear a sample then what you hear what the producer did with it
Glad you like the video
Maaan listen these OG samples are sooo smooth
All good songs, the originals and the newer ones
A million thanx for this video...some I knew...others I was blown away....keep it 100
Glad you managed to discover some new ones and thanks for watching
My god bruh!! I can only imagine how long this must’ve took 🔥🔥
Yeah it took quite a while
It probably didn't take too long because when records, tapes and CDs were sold all the samples were noted in the credits. I used to love to look at the credits to see what songs had been sampled.
Believe me it took a lot of time and research. A lot of these samples aren’t listed in the notes.
Hip Hop 101 hearing where all those classic hip hop hits came from hats offf
Good to hear you enjoyed it
Hip hop was blessing for these older artist they will continue to eat off of samples and paid for the rest of their lives thank you hip hop you truely saved music
Have not listened to many of these songs in years. This video sparked something in me again. Thanks
Glad you liked it
Seeing a lot of these "sample behind the beat" videos is a really good look on the mighty RZA. The way he was able to take small pieces of different records and make it into something cohesive, yet far from the original is truly remarkable and was lightyears ahead of the game.
Thanks for the great video, I enjoyed it!
Thanks so much. If you’ve not checked it already, I’ve done a video on RZA productions czcams.com/video/P78X3McWkYY/video.html
I couldn’t agree more! Starting with 36 Chambers RZA sampled Thelonious Monk to Otis Reading, The Jackson 5, Barbra Streisand, amongst many more. I loved West Coast Hip Hop, but my roots were in De La Soul, Tribe, EPMD, Eric B & Rakim, so it was nice to finally here some east cost gangster $hit with wordplay and comedic relief. #hiphopologist
This brotha made the most amazing hip hop samples video on the planet.
Glad you like it
Much more rewarding when found yourself.
Thank you for this one man!
My man thank you you brought back so much memories
Many times It's harder to take something old and make it seem new. So new that you never knew it was old. It's a gift of the people who endure the struggle. It's all we ever had to start with.
This video took me through my childhood!
👍
Absolutely fantastic.
Keep ‘em coming
Thank you D.J. Furio for finding these samples I’ve been chasing so of them for over 30 years
I’m glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching
The golden era 90’s). One of the most creative, diverse, influential times in hip hop..
Woohaa.....dope ! Thanks for the hard work compiling this.....thumbs up !
Let’s not forget one of my faves - Black Moon’s “Who Got Da Props” off of their ‘93 album *Enta da Stage* that song sampled Ronnie Laws’s “Tidal Wave” - a smooth jazz track that was set on fiyah 🔥 by Black Moon 💯👏🏾👏🏾
This was a FANTASTIC list!! Super job, Bruv 💯👏🏾
I still listen to that album a lot. I’ve shown the sample in another video
@@DJFurio I actually just watched ur other videos…. You are an ambassador of hip hop, Bruv - thank you for keeping it alive 💯🙏🏾
Thanks for the props and glad you like my videos
@@DJFurio no doubt! It was a pleasure 🙏🏾
I knew wu tang triumph immediately, such a badass sample.
Musical Creative Geniuses
Great work. Don’t change anything and keep them coming.
Seriously great work here. Props from Santa Cruz, CA 🏁
I knew about 85% of these. That 'Chief Rocka' had me stunned tho. Never heard that one. That was a killa flip!
👍
9:40 R.I.P. Bernard Wright
This is fucking gold! Love sample videos!
Yet again another great video. Thanks man.
Glad you like it and thanks for watching
2:09 Perfect marriage of production and lyrical prowess
Great track
ice cube flipping the show is over, man that's insane
Yeah it’s a great flip
The Nas is like sample is probably the best sample ive ever heard, i know this is chronological order but its cool how it was the last in the list
It’s an amazing sample and DJ Premier almost threw the record out without listening to it as it was a religious record that he didn’t think would have anything worth sampling
Fabulous stuff, DJ Furio - and what memories! 👏
Thanks for watching and good to hear it brought back some good memories for you
Linda Clifford "never gonna stop" also 2Pac "all eyes on me" 1996

Nice. Really appreciate the props from an O.G. 👍
LANCE Matthews: Do you have a link to any of your albums, or perhaps any posted on CZcams that I could possibly check out? I'd definitely be interested in listening to some of your work.👍😁👍
When it comes to celebrating samples, I'll always and forever point out that Big Daddy Kane used that Zapp loop 2 years before 2Pac did. :-)
Love this! I could listen to this all day!!!
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR WORK & TIME ON THIS!!! I TRULY ENJOYED IT!!! SALUTE TO YOU SIR!!!
Good to hear you enjoyed it

Glad you like it 👍
Thanks for your hard work this was so dope.
Appreciate it 👍
Beautiful journey
Thanks for watching
Dilla was a straight up alien. He was reversing samples and doing damn near impossible ish to create tracks. Did not know “Drop” by the Pharcyde was a reversed sample.
Dilla was amazing. And the Drop sample is so good
Oh wow . 👌🏾 40 years of listening and collecting and you manage to blow my mind ! Thank you !!!
Glad you like it 👍
that was dope creativity is sampling even the artists who made the original songs sometimes cant tell that three seconds of an old song made a new number 1 hit
Definitely. I really like the more obscure samples that have been disguised that much that you wouldn’t always know.
Discovered so many classics thanks to you!
Thanks for watching
