Lol Stephen a is a tool but he did what you’re literally supposed to do. Adjust your opinion when you receive additional information. They said he’s great give him time to work on his jumpshot. Then everyone slowly realized “oh he’s not working on his jumpshot or game at all.” Which tells you everything you need to know about the player and his future. The man doesn’t llke playing ball but used it to set up his family. He a result of the young generation and how sensitive they are. Ben Simmons will go down as being the worst contract in NBA history and idk how anyone ever takes that title from him. As a basketball player the man is literally worst than worthless and there’s no way he’s good for any team or locker room. All he had to do was 1,000 jumpers a day. He would’ve improved enough to show everyone he was atleast trying. Smh

The physical comparisons between Ben and Magic, or Ben and LeBron weren't bad, neither was the potential. What no one could have predicted was Ben's poor ego development. The man is so afraid of looking dumb that he refuses to shoot the ball. This is true even as everyone wants him to shoot, regardless of if he makes the shot or not.
And what is truly tragic is that fans and the media would be far less hard on the guy if he took and missed a lot of shots, rather than not taking any.

Imagine if all you had to do to showcase improvement in your game is to shoot the ball. No pressure to ever make a single shot outside 15 feet, just show a willingness to Chuck up a few air balls a game. And still failing. Ben Simmons failed at something he had to show a bare minimum effort to do. That’s purely mental.
Its crazy. I stepped away from the game for almost 20 years and started playing a bit recently. I still drop 7-10 free throws at 40 yrs old. How can someone so talented as him not be able to shoot at all?? Blows my mind.

Anytime somebody makes crazy ass comparisons a player is bound to disappoint them in a way. As a philly fan I had reasonable expectations for him I didn’t even want him to take 3s just him having a nice middy game would help. @@WillSoTrill definitely man. I always felt like he could be more aggressive in the paint also. I feel he was one or two summers of work away from reaching his full potential. It just shows how talented the league has become when even a guy like him has struggled in the league.

The only players that lived up to the hype in my lifetime are Kobe and Lebron, and Kobe didn't have nearly as much hype as Lebron. No one else since those two have come close to looking as good as they were billed. KD and AD had a little hype but nothing crazy, while guys like Steph, Kawhi, Giannis, Jokic and Embiid weren't expected to be all time great.
You know how LeBron came in with all the hype and media always being negative and scrutiny and criticism and ridiculed and vitriol and expectations, that was put on LeBron, but LeBron mental was able to block out the noise, Ben Simmons don't have that capacity to block everyone and the noise and the hype and the attention to just play his game and now just like Zion Williamson they just want out.
I'd say the actual difference between them is Lebron actually put in the work to live up to the hype. He kept taking that next step up in his game in the early part of his career and if he came up short, he got back up and tried again.
Ben though was just content to play like he did in his rookie season and was either too lazy to adapt his game or he didn't think he had to. Opposing coaches noticed after awhile and were able to fully expose the flaws that Ben didn't bother to address, again either out of laziness or arrogance. When Ben fell short though, instead of going back to work to prove his haters wrong, he pouted and still didn't bother to adapt.

Ben is not built for the moment, the media blasted him, his teammates blasted him, the fans blasted him, the internet is blasting him!! The pressure and criticism have destroyed him mentally. I would love to see him comeback and silence the critics. Unfortunately with all his injures that first step is gone, so he is going to have to develop a shot and work on his foot work in the post. Without a shot or solid postgame his only asset is his passing, and I don’t think a team is going to pay him to pass the ball around.

The guy had nothing but praise before he played a single minute.
The crazy part to me is that, outside of the normal media over-hype, the initial analysis of Simmons was pretty accurate. He was a unicorn in that he was a 6"9 guy that could move like he was 6"4. He did have next-level court vision. He was a high-level defender. He even showed flashes of jump shooting, or at least close-range shooting. Yes, he lacked a 3pt shot, but that's something that, given his other skillsets, any NBA team would feel confident on either developing or working around.
No one could have seen the mental/emotional collapse that happened with Simmons. I don't think it's a skill issue. There's no reason that a player with Simmons' skillset, including zero jumpshot, shouldn't be able to play well in the modern NBA. For example, put the healthy Simmons in the Boston Celtics lineup. Simmons-Brown-Tatum-Grant Williams-Horford, a massive, high-level defensive lineup with four spacers. Or you could swap Horford for a Derrick White or a Malcolm Brogdon. This is the type of basketball where Simmons should, theoretically, excel. Playing as a Point-Center or Point-4, initiating a fast-paced, spacing offense. The mental side is why he is a disaster and unplayable.
