With Bridgerton Season 3, part 2 just released, I decided to take on the challenge of creating a Lady Fearne Calloway cosplay-and I have less than a week to do it!
    To bring this art to life, I need a dress with fabulous floral details, a gradient dye job, matching dyed opera gloves, custom-shaped horns, and a styled green wig. It’s a lot of work to complete in just six days, so let’s get started! Join me for the final reveal where I bring Lady Fearne Calloway to life in a photoshoot. Thank you for watching, and I hope you enjoy this whirlwind cosplay journey as much as I did!

    Hey, it’s me, Hannah. I may have gotten in over my head. I'm in danger. I have volunteered to round out a cosplay group based on this Bridgerton-inspired Critical Role Bell’s Hells fan art from the amazing artist, Sunset Dragon. The timeliness of this art resurfacing in my Instagram feed is likely no coincidence. So with my love of Critical Role, and the fact that Bridgerton Season 3, pt 2 is coming out this week, I am taking on a Lady Fearne Calloway cosplay project, and need to be done in less than a week.
    To execute on this art, I need a dress with fabulous floral detail and a gradient dye job. I need similarly dyed gloves, opera gloves that are up to my elbows. I need custom shaped horns and a green wig styled with a specific updo and more floral detail. I don't need to tell you that's a lot of work to complete in less than six days, so I'm not going to dive too deep into an intro here and we can just like Voiceover Hannah, take it away.
    Hey, it's me, Voiceover Hannah. I started this project out with the free-to-download Bridgerton dress pattern from Mood Fabrics. I found this beautiful floral embroidered mesh for the sleeves and the ruffles, and this somewhat stretchy green fabric that honestly might be a touch nicer than I needed it to be, but I absolutely fell in love. This Bridgerton dress pattern was actually the first sewing project I put on this channel, and watching that back was quite the ride. I'm actually really proud of how far I have come, both just on this channel in general, and also in my ability to sew, in just a year and a half or so. So if you want to go check that out, feel free. But woof, it is rough.
    I did make some adjustments to the pattern, namely using French seams, and removing the sheer outer layer of the bodice and the skirt, which I ended up just gathering the rest of my rectangle of fabric for, rather than actually following the skirt pattern pieces. After attaching a long, flowy, peachy pink underskirt, which peeks out from under the high-low green outerskirt layer, I hand-stitched the bodice lining closed and installed the zipper. And since this green fabric had a nice stretch to it, it was really easy to just add a few stitches to get this mild ruching effect at the front neckline. I had had ambitions of doing some more intricate draping and stitching here, but time wasn't on my side, and learning a new technique like that will just have to be saved for another day.
    I haven't slept, I haven't showered, I haven't eaten. I'm just kidding. I'm taking care of myself. However, I am spending every waking moment that isn't my day job working on this cosplay. So I figured while I work on adding cuffs to my sleeves, we could check in, see how it's going. I also misplaced my mic and just got our replacement in the mail, so now seems like the right time to do this. Am I happy with the progress that I've made on the dress so far? Yes. Do I feel like it has been two steps forward, one step back on every aspect of creating this dress? Also, yes.
    What? This has been my best friend throughout this entire week. And the thing about cosplay is, it's not just a dress that I am creating here, but I have horns to make. I have a wig to ...

    As someone who is making an Elizabethan Orym right now and over on my instagram I’ve designed so many historical versions of Critical Role boys, I love this so much!

    This turned out so well! Using the spout of the Gatorade bottle for the wig updo was an inspired piece of improvisation. You made an amazing Fearne, and the fact that you accomplished all that within those tight time constraints is even more amazing!
    (Also, I loved Gabby's Pate de Rolo! So perfect

    Magnets and Horns Help:
    I got an ultra flat, metal headband that I added extension clips to (to attach to my own hair) that is about 1cm or .5 inch that my various horns, tiny top hats, and other hair decorations that I place magnets on can stick to. It gives a more solid base. I always use neodym magnets and I have found on horns in particular that two magnets sitting parallel to each other is better than one attachment point. I order them from a company that makes them because it is cheaper, I can grab various sizes and forces to deal with whatever the weight of my decorations are. Some even sell magnets encased in plastic and cloth that work great in different costume applications.
    Sometimes I can get away with using extension clips, depending on the items weight, that magnets stick to to secure things better to my head in a particular orientation if it isn't where the headband would sit.

    Would you consider doing a synthetic wig styling tutorial? Just because you are kind and generous?

    • @makinghannah
      @makinghannah  Před 12 dny

      Hmm it’d be less a tutorial, and more just teaching myself more about how to style a wig 😂 but I have some ideas for future wigs, for sure! So keep an eye out!

    This cosplay is so beautiful!! You did an amazing job bringing the illustration to life 🌸
    Out of curiosity, how did you approach the faun legs for this costume (in comparison to your Mr. Tumnus cosplay)? I want to make a cosplay of Wuuvy from ACOFAF that leans into the regency themes of the show (so an ankle or floor-length gown like yours). Could I get away with just making the hooves?

    • @makinghannah
      @makinghannah  Před 13 dny +2

      Yes! I repurposed just the hoof shoes I made for Mr. Tumnus, and cut holes on the bottoms of some tights, which I pulled over the shoe part of the hooves!
      Good luck on your Wuuvy cosplay! 🧚🏻‍♂️
