Building my own Dune Stillsuit Cosplay to wear to GalaxyCon Richmond 2024

- Feeling a bit under the weather, I decided to tackle something easie- no, wait, my brain said let's do a full cosplay build instead. Despite initial doubts about the workload, I found Alyson Tabbitha's Stillsuit cosplay pattern (linked below) SUPER helpful - honestly, it almost made it easy!
From gluing foam pieces to finding the perfect thrifted base layers to match the Arrakis aesthetic, I did a pretty good job detailing each step of the process. Then I got to wear the completed cosplay at GalaxyCon Richmond! Despite minor setbacks, like ripped contact lenses, I'm thrilled with the outcome and to have had so much fun at the con. You did such a great job!!! ❤
Thank you!! 😊
This was so good! The sand-textured spray paint was a stroke of genius. I’ve recently fallen down the rabbit hole of wanting to make the Arrakis pajamas that Paul gets kidnapped in, along with the Fremen cloak he wears with it that he gets from Duncan Idaho and Dr. Kynes, which he wears over his stillsuit for the rest of Dune: Part 1. (It’s gonna be the comfiest con cosplay, haha) That spray paint hack is going to help so much to add texture! And this might be the first video that has ever made foam armor look approachable and doable for me? Same with the dye baths? Omg this was so helpful.
Amazing! So glad you found it so helpful!
The cat ASMR was everything I ever needed
Came for the costuming... stayed for... well the costuming. AND THE KITTY CONTENT! 😁
Yard Hannah is everyone's enabler
😂😂
You can actually see the exhaustion in our eyes at the end there LOL BUT dude idk how you put up with all the dyeing. Just the little bit I had to do for Mizu made me wanna scream, yet every video I watch of you you're dyeing something else
Hai hai! I jus bought the template too n have been waiting for a moment to finally construct it. Your video was just that reminder for me! This looks so so stunning n the spray paint was a v gud touch :D thanks for another perspective on the process I'll definitely be using this to help me
That suit came out incredibly badass, you look awesome!!
Thank you!!
Fantastic build in such short period!!
This is incredible!
Fantastic Job!! Your video helps fill in some gaps that I couldn't quite get with Tabitha's. 2 questions! Where did you get the elastic straps or what are they called? Also what EVA foam specific hot glue do you use? Thank you! You rock!
Tyges Standard Hot Glue for Eva Foam! And I just got the elastic from Joann's 👍🏻
Yooooooo I think your still suit came out great!! The sand blasting with a bit of paint was such a smart idea. And just out of curiosity, how soon after painting on the foam with the watered down acrylic did you start wiping it off to give the distressed look?
Pretty much right after - the paint was definitely still wet! It is gonna vary every time though, just cuz the watering down ratio will vary too. Something to play around with!
Lol I’m making a xenomorph cosplay for galaxycon Raleigh which is in a month and a half I know your pain
I'm new to dyeing. Can you tell me about the dish soap?
Rit Dye recommends like a teaspoon? Not sure what the actual chemistry benefit is there but hey, it works! 😅
@@makinghannah awesome! Thx!
