    2 common welding tests given by shipyards, welding schools, and local union schools are the 3g and 4g Structural plate tests. This video is intended to help you pass a Dual Shield Flux Core welding test in 3g (vertical) and 4g (overhead) positions. A big Thanks to Andrew Cardin for helping me make this video, and also a big thanks to Triangle Engineering (trieng.com) for providing the test plates.
    And last but not least, thanks to Lincoln Electric for letting me use their stuff for this video.

    I've did my two years technical welding and have good welding work experience these days. After school I chose a job welding only aluminum all day then a few years later nothing but stainless .There's so many materials and processes it's challenging to be proficient in everything. Your videos always help me succeed. Thank you sir

    I see a lot of people commenting requesting the fcaw-g with ceramic backing test plates. That would be an awesome video to put out, seeing there is very few if not any instructional videos about the process. It is a very common test in the shipyard, so maybe you could give it some thought Jody.

    nice demo jody, it would be nice if you can educate people about welding wire and shielding gas/gases mixture as they have dramatic effect on weld penetration as well as on tensile properties and its also important for people to know to use the right wire for this position as not all the wires are manufactured to use in all positions welding.

    thank you for all the refresher tips. been out of school a while and only use bare wire with 75/25 shielding in this area. have a weld test tomorrow and this helped brush up on flux core. makes me proud to see welders helping welders make more money. here in Arkansas companies do there best to keep wages low. So the onlh people they hire are half ass "welders" and I use the title loosely, because they consider themselves welders b/c they can pull a trigger and make a stringer that I would consider embarrassing if I did it. anyway.... thanx again.

  • @raimundasmartunas1415
    @raimundasmartunas1415 Před 8 lety

    Hey Jody! If im not mistaken, in this and previous dual shield videos you were using 75/25 gas right? Would be nice to see you weld with CO2, since i think its a bit more difficult and that is what they often provide here in europe shipyards.
    Anyway very nice content glad you keep posting every week. Cheers

    Great video, once again. I was just wondering what shielding gas ratio you were using, because, typically, more CO2 equals a bit more penetration, which may require a bit less voltage per wire feed speed. My experience with a wire feed process has been just point and shoot, but with less forgiveness on machine parameters.

    • @crankyjew2d2
      @crankyjew2d2 Před 8 lety

      nope. a machine that small won't be able to manage the voltage needed to run dual shield. 035 dual shield is going to want around 20v, at least. even if a smaller machine can produce the voltage, duty cycle at wide open becomes an issue. if you need to get as much as you can out of that machine, run self-shielded on 220v service.
