The BD2W is the drive pedal. It doesn't matter if your creating drive or boosting your amp, it gets the job done, and adds something you will never get out of a tube screamer. Asymmetrical clipping. Love it.
nope, look for bluesdriver vs pure sky
I tried so many drive pedals before finding this and instantly fell in love. Anyone have suggestions for what to pair with it? I have an ep booster and an optimist (klon like) going into an AC and blackface style two amp setup.
nope, ha, get a n MXR FET driver!@@bryantherocker
The blues driver is REALLY good at pushing your clean tones.
Truthfully, unless your playing metal this is probably the best OD you can use imo. Works great with clean to dirty amps doesn't really matter and keeps the guitar tone in focus without coloring it. Leon's volume trick is how ya do it mates! Nice examples , Killer blues licks, mad skills dude!
I just recently came across this video and thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. You’re playing is stellar and the sounds from this pedal are great. Thanks so much.
Thank you kindly!
Wonderful demo and great playing!
Thanks a lot!
So, I've been debating for a few days if I want to get one of these. This video sold me. This pedal really can be used for a "blues-rock" tone. So many reviewers present it as a high gain device, which it can do, but who cares, there are enough of those already. It doesn't hurt of course that Leon Todd is so talented. He really is a remarkable player.
The BD-2 is the most underrated Boss pedal.
Just get the "normal" version. It's great.
nope, too bright
@@bryantherocker unlike you

@@kimdemegillo9631Nah, LMAO 🤣 !!!
Jour tone and playing and expression with the LP at the end is just MEGA! Congrats!
thank you for showing that there is more than gain at 9 o'clock and full blast that other videos have shown for so many different pedals. very concise with your examples and very well done video. thank you.
Brilliant demo, Leon, really nails the versatility of the BD.
Blues driver and metal zone are two of the best pedals boss ever made. They are a go to for me
And to think, people have been shitting on metal zone because of the over-hissing in the highs, but never tried using it as a pre-amp via amp fx loop. Such a beast of a tone. And now I'm discovering how to use this and the hyper fuzz properly. Such animals of tones.
I agree I have the waza version of both, the Metal Zone gets bad press from people that don't know how to use it.
The Waza Metal Zone in the custom mode is an amazing distortion pedal, not just for metal. It’s difficult to dial in, for sure, but it’s worth the effort. I don’t play metal and I love it.
Metal zone in the effects loop all the way. What a pre amp pedal. Blues driver is a must just the bd 2 is incredible.
For any shoegaze fans here: a Blues Driver with the gain dimed can get you surprisingly close to a My Bloody Valentine distortion!
Totally!
I can confirm, if you put a reverb pedal BEFORE the BD2 it's totally MBV
BD2W and a Browne bros Protein gives me everything from almost clean boost to light warm overdrive to heavy rock overdrive all without losing the character of the guitar. A great addition to the pedalboard. Excellent tips on settings and very enjoyable playing throughout. Thanks.
My go to reviewer you rock
\M/
That was a brilliant and professional demo! Your playing style is top notch bud!
I appreciate that mate :)
Just picked one of these up. Can't wait to get all David Gilmour-y with it. Great jam at the end.
This pedal is going on my christmas list. It sounds epic in a brilliant video with some of the best guitar facial expressions i've ever seen. :)
Hope you enjoy it!
I sold my BD2 when I went digital. I regretted it immediately. I took a year or so to see if I could live without it. I could not, so i got a BD-2w. I feel complete again.
8:07 Delicious secret unlocked
I like your blues face LT! Adds to the presentation. Cheers mate from the States!
Amazing demo with spicy hot Chops
Everything goes better with Firebird 😁 Great video showcasing what this pedal can do. Tasty tones. God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸
One of the best videos demonstrating the BD-2w.
Thks!
Glad you liked it!

Thanks for sharing these 3 neat tricks! Will try em!
Danng man the jam that starts at 8:30 with the Les Paul.... My godness man you reallly killed it . Liked and subsribed! edited: it really touches me brother... Rippen!! second edit: just got my BD-2w in the mail today!! It's crazy,..... you just cant beat Boss pedals.
Part III got me, also the jam. NICE ONE mate!
Very good video
Very informative and you have the chops to demo these specifics .. so thanks
My favorite pedal 0f all time.
What a great demo. Well done!
For me, the BD is a pedal I’ve avoided for years because at home I really never liked it. However, I recently picked up a BD-2W and when I tried it with the band at rehearsal I absolutely loved it. What a difference a loud amp makes.
This is my current favorite low/medium gain drive pedal.
Thanks for the amazing demo. 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing!
great demo as always. to my ears this is like a perfect mix between ds1 sd1
Man, great playing and pedal demo, thank you.. subbed.
Much appreciated!
Use BD in Boss ME-50....great stuff...and now pair with a Tonex. FUN....great review, thanks!
I've been going back and forth on whether or not I want a Blues Driver for quite a while.
Tones here are great, but I think it was your guitar stank-faces have sold me. Merry Christmas to me! Thanks, Leon!
The great thing about this pedal is that it's really easy and cheap to pick up second hand - so no harm done if it doesn't stay on your board.
Great guitar faces
8:10 the Joy of a note sustaining for days 😃
I tried so many OD pedals before I finally got a Blues Driver. It was like a whole new world of guitar playing for me. Now I play “tasteful” blues. However, my guitar teacher, who’s actually a shred magician is always surprised by the level of filth I like in my sound. The Blues Driver is the perfect pedal for that because of that touch sensitive nature. I set mine going into a pretty cranked (pre amp at 1 o’clock) amp. My BD settings are 10 o’clock on level, 3 o’clock on Gain and 11 o’clock on tone. With that it can stay on and I just ride the guitar volume pot.
I just got a BD2 waza super happy with it.. the waza line has subtle tweaks that are pretty cool imo. Thanks so much for the great tips I'll be burning a few hours tonight messing with it 😊😊❤
Wow. I have only played a bd2 once a long time ago and I remember I liked it then thru a clean amp with the gain about 3/4 of the way up as I was playing a Gibson SG with a dirty fingers high output pickup and it was glorious. I need to try another. Great demo.
God that strat and those pickups sound awesome. I would probably love mostly on that neck pickup. Those notes sound so epic. So did that LP. Love that guitar and the fact that it has an ebony finger board which just makes that flame and those pickups pop! ♥️🤘♥️
Great demo sir. Cool pedal. Boss rocks. Roland rocks I should say I guess.
Hope all is well my friend.
It's snowing here for the first time. Just an inch / 2.54 cm. Still, I love it. Love the winter.
It's summer there or spring right?
Please be safe my friend. ♥️🤘♥️
I have just the plain Blues Driver and I love it. I just leave it on and never touch it again.
Great review, thank you!
Great content duder!! PlusI like your voice and delivery! Subcribed!!
Much appreciated!
Maybe my fav pedal.
Nice review!
I have so many overdrive pedals now...but the most trusted one for shows is my old Keely modded Boss BD from hard rock to blues it comfortably gets the job done. Just roll off the volume and it cleans up nicely!
This video just single handedly convinced me that the next drive for my board should be the BD-2 instead of yet another boutique clone that only does one good sound.
That’s a face full of joy right there 🎉
I needed this video!!!! Thankks
You're so welcome!
Awesome and passionate! I am delighted!
Obligatory stank face in corn starch mode 😂
i just ordered now can't wait
Congrats!
I use an EHX Glove for an always-on "Thing 1", into a BD-2, which I use for "Thing 2". A guitar's volume control is too often left wide open, when a simple overdrive pedal, set just right, can allow it to provide so many tones. Great Doctor Seuss references, by the way!
Very good demo.
Big fan of this pedal.
Very Cool Thankyou. Have a BD-2 which is a lot of fun. Have a DS-1 after it and they seem to work very well together for me, giving me a wide range of Gain options. Cheers
Right on!
Ben from All them Witches swears by the Blues Driver. Just got one. It's all you need to get where you're going and not for crazy money. Great video.
Great band!
Very good video thanks it help me a lot figuring out how to set up my pedal
Glad it helped!
I bought one when i was twenty and i have it on my pedal board for 17 years... So many good vibes from the bd2! Last year I've bought the waza edition and i am double happy. It's a great sounding pedal but sometimes sounds a little fizzy especially with fender amps like twin or super reverbs. I switch off the brightness and it sounds much better. In general i set the tone between 7 and 8 o'clock and it kinda compensates for the fizzyness
So it’s an ancient pedal then
Awesome demo of what this pedal can do and how to really use an overdrive pedal. Great vibrato you’ve got there, too…almost as good as your stanky grimaces. Great job, thanks.
I appreciate that mate!
Love, love the blues driver circuit. So sweet on it's own and a great boost for a channel that already has some hair going on. I actually have a BD waza clone that was built by a Company tha starts with Va...., I really love that BD style bite.
i have mine 1st- the buffer is good there- the tone is all the way off- level about 9 and gain about 2:30- it is now pretty transparent and simply put no matter the combo of the three od's behind it... when engaged it puts me "on the edge of chaos" where i want to be and the feel is great too- you can't use it alone set this way but the point is it is only to boost you into solo mode
This pedal is versatile, I have one and I use it all the time. If you are looking for a good and a versatile overdrive pedal, this is it.
Damn! U sold me on this!
The BD2 I consider nearly essential. No board should not have one. The Waza version even more so. I like dialing it back and stack it in front of my 5150 EVH overdrive but it is spectacular on its own. And great guitar face as well
Thanks for this video! I think these tips also apply to the Keeley Super Phat Mod pedal (for those of us who have that and not the BD-2w).
Sounds better without the bd
That’s some guitar face 😂! Great demo, the BD-2 kicked the Timmy off my board, finding this more to my liking for a consistent crunch tone into several different clean amps
I’ve got 2 of these, I have found the QC to be less than stellar.
Both pedals are not the waza mod. I pedal is bright and sharp, the other is more gainy and a bit dark.
I’ve used a bunch of these in the last 2-3 years and they all were very different to each other.
This is actually my favorite OD pedal.
Thank You Leon. 🎶🎶🎶✨️🦊🙂
You are so welcome!
Just found your channel. Nice review….It helped sway me. Just about to buy one of these and just subbed. 👍🏻
Welcome aboard!
Very nice Pink Floyd playing.
Love the pedal.
Thanks for listening!
Killer sustain! I'll make noise later! It's off to tackle those waves and take folks fishing!
a nice look at this peddle thanks brother
Any time!
The first application came really handy to me when I needed to be in the ballpark of AC30’s chime on the fly.
i have the stock blues driver and i love it
Wow, surprised... again. Subscribed!
Welcome aboard!
I like the bd-2 in front of a ds-1 because the Blues Driver in my opinion exactly has the mids the ds-1 is missing especially for a cutting solo sound. For heavy rhythm tones I like the ds-1 as is without the mid push. Most Boss pedals stack quite well to eachother. That is a real bonus.
I also love stacking Boss pedals. They really do jive well with each other. Probably designed that way.
Weird because the blues driver doesn't really boost mids at all. You would probably really like a TS9 into the DS1. A classic combination.
@@LeviBulger you are right but I was not talking about boosting. Can we agree upon the DS-1 having a mid scoop and the BD-2 „filling“ this scoop with a little more mids? Of course tubescreamers in front of a DS-1 are also great. Just a different flavour.
I bet you think about guitar pedals more than you actually play guitar
@@kidkique I resemble that statement
leon todd your video was awesome!!!!! by the way what amp were you using and its settings?
Fantastic tone Leon, thx ...
Great, I have one of those. I'm going to try out some of your ideas.
Great little pedal hey
I’m about to pick up my Waza BD2W today!
You can almost get a bit of a treble booster effect if you keep the bright sw on. Nice to have if you have a darker a darker Laney style amp or you're going for some Rory Gallagher-esque lead.
Good Lord I love the sound of a dirty firebird. Someday…… someday.
THAT GIBBY SUSTAAAAIN!
“Just listen… i dont hear anything… well you would” lmao
What amplifier are you using especially with the Firebird and the Les Paul? What settings do you have it on, sounds like you have some gain going before you kick in the Blues Driver
FET, circuits are my favorite for overdrive pedals.
I use the BD2 in your first setting all of the time. With the SD1 as the over drive.
I think the SD1 does a better “creamy” sound while the BD2 bites more like a natural amp breakup.
Doesn’t the SD steal a lot of bass? (Like a TubeScreamer). I like that the BD doesn’t
Nice clip. One of my pedals that are never for sale.
On my MG300, I discovered that my fave combo is the Matchless with the Blues driver.
The very last song has the perfect dialling of the three knobs. That's the way I set it up. Gold.
Tone knob should never be rolled past 11....unless if you are not stacking other pedals
The les Paul section has a “Dogs” vibe with the backing track
Ok I’m sold
Great demo of a great pedal. I have the Angry Driver version, it kicks my butt into next week. How did they pack so much goodness into a little box? Probably the perfect pedal. That Firebird is tasty too! I remember seeing Joe Bonamassa at the Corner Hotel a few years ago, had a BD on his pedal board, damn, he slayed it, Sloe Gin just brought the house down. From memory I think he only used a single black Les Paul Custom for the whole set. Couldn't have fitted more punters in with a shoe horn! Think it was about $15 to get in there, it was wall to wall, had us all in the palm of his hand from the first note. Good times.
That era was peak Joe IMO, he's never sounded more raw and vital
@@LeonTodd Oh hell yeah, he brought the roof down right there. Totally raw and visceral. Never seen anything like it it. And I've seen a lot of bands. Joe just ate us alive.
I love my sd-1 but I might just have to pick one of these puppies up
After watching this video, now im not so sure if I want an angry driver or this BD. Decisions! Thanks for the confusion, Leon! J/K
The jam at the end on the neck pick up reminds of John Skyes tones did anyone else pick up on that?Nice job showing this pedal in many different ways you’re the Legend LT🤟🏻
You know me too well :p
You had my attention with the mention of John Sykes.
Very tasty playing. 👍
Backing track was dope too! Sounded like part of “Dogs” from the Floyd
@@thetanman2233 you got it!
@@thetanman2233Damn! I felt the urge to listen to Dogs as soon as the demo ended!!
Now I realise it’s obvious.
Hi nice demo! I love the original BD2 pedal and I can get a lot of cool sounds with it together with a PRS Mira. However, I noticed that the original pedal has a sort of threshold point where the "overdrive" effect all of a sudden stops. You will hear this, when you strike a note, and let it ring out slowly over time. With the TS9, the DS1 as well as the Mad Prof Stone Grey Distortion, I do not have this thing happening. Is it also happening on the Waza version?
Love the Mira, great guitars. I've had that issue with the SD-1 but didn't really notice it here.
If memory serves, there was a time when the BD-2 was the budget-friendly secret weapon of, like, three different, unrelated genres of music, each of which thought nobody else was hip to it. 😄 Country player can't find a Nobels ODR? Blues Driver! Melodic death metal player can't afford a Maxon OD-820? Blues Driver!
"What, but it says Blues on it bro?!?!" :p
@@LeonTodd {gaffer tapes "Drues Bliver"} Seeee-cret 😉
So when can we expect a Leon/Shane Aussie blues jam?
Hello ! I’ m using a bd 2 (normal version) with my music school orchestra, but when I solo I can’t pierce the mix because the amp is not saturated (the teacher controls it and if I high the volume he downs it). Do you think I could stack the bs2 with my treble booster Tony Iommi signature and my Blue delay to fix it ?
Great vid and subbed. Very versatile and underrated pedal. Loved mine(stock version), for the very reason you mentioned: It cleans up brilliantly. I think maybe you omitted one of its great tones though, the all out distortion/almost fuzz tones available in the last quarter turn of the gain knob. Thanks for the tips. That's also some of the best guitar faces I've seen in a long while 😀
Oh and what are the differences between the 2 modes?
Cheers, welcome aboard!
I imagine there's a few component tweaks between the 2 modes - overall the 2nd mode is a little more balanced and doesn't get as bright and peaky as quickly.
Second that "second thing". Kind of the Andy Timmons thing of turning down the guitar with the pedal on. The pedal sounds quite good like that for some reason. Thanks!
Hi Leon. Been boosting my bluesdriver with a metalzone for years, it's nasty but I like it.....
That sounds like a recipe for pure filth!
