    Another great video! After shooting with the c200 more and more, I rarely use the EVF. I do use the touchscreen to focus especially during run n gun shooting where subjects are moving around and I’m switching focus while on a gimbal. My small HD Focus is sooo much nicer to use. Way sharper, brighter, and color accurate and with all the tools included. I just wish I could use it to focus :)

      RE: An affordable EVF -- I bought Zacuto's Z-finder for the C200's touchscreen monitor. It's a bit bulky, but it allows me to selectively turn the C200's touchscreen into an EVF with excellent magnification that can be located wherever it's needed. Also avoids using up an SDI or HDMI port.

    I have two C200s and wish I would’ve got the C200Bs. I never use the built in EVF and it takes up unnecessary space in my cases. I found the EVF removal service on the European Canon site but I can’t find it on the USA site. I would certainly send both back to Canon to have them removed.
    By the way, your channel is what helped me make my decision to buy the C200. Thank you so much for your content!

    When I bought my C200 I thought I will use the EVF and touch screen a lot, but after having it for few months I realized if I bought a C200B back then I will still be totally fine since I didn’t use these features too much. I think the only “must have ” C200 Canon accessory is the side handle which is awesome .

      Cheers, Trustin. I originally had the 5" video assist for my DSLR, then got the 7" when it was on sale. I haven't used the ninja inferno but it would be awesome to check out. Now that I'm on the c200 I typically use non-recording monitors because they're lighter and use less power.

      @@Crimsonengine OK, My primary interest is the recording feature. I need to shoot long interview takes and just can't afford the space to do it in raw but I really like the raw option of the C200 for other shots. I rented the C200 for a week and really loved it but need to figure out a better video recording format. The MP4 was better than I expected but I'm just starting my cinema camera journey coming from DSLR and my subjects don't have a lot of time for me to be tweaking behind the camera and I'd like a bit more data to push and pull once I get back behind the computer. I loved your tip about processing the RAW right off the card. Thanks again.

    As to secondary market.. we can attest to the fact that the $5-7K secondary is super easy to sell through. Have gotten rid of the eva1, c200, ump, and fs7’s in a matter of a day or so.. almost makes more sense to buy one for a multi day shoot and then sell it rather than renting in many cases. C200 held its value the most followed by the ump and then fs7. Eva1 took a massive hit both times we had to acquire and then sell it

    • @Crimsonengine

      @@Crimsonengine It could be.. also interested to see if they are going to drop the C200 during NAB when they announce the C300iii and have to push the mkii price down a little. I gotta say though, of all the cinema bodies in that sub 20K range, the C200, UMP, and DSMC2 really are incredible. If I could own only one i'd have a tough choice picking between the UMP and C200.. DSMC2 reliability is just not quite there yet, as great as everything else is about it. the G2 is going to be amazing on the UMP, but unfortunately going to be like a year before anyone gets one lol

    Only having one SDI on the camera makes the canon monitor really useful if you are sharing our the image to directors etc as they can watch a clean image without all the camera info displayed over the image

      Not only that, but it won't output via SDI and HDMI simultaneously, so you can't, for example, connect a 3rd party monitor and EVF simultaneously.

  • @360CreativeBulgaria
    @360CreativeBulgaria Před 5 lety

    Why you're saying that you're stuck with the canon's LCD if you get C200. You can always buy a second big monitor and use it whenever you need it (also simultaneously with the one showing your settings and the other showing a clean image, which you cannot do when using only external monitor/s). Also you can use different monitors dedicated for specific applications. I have 7" atomos that is permanently attached on my gimbal and it takes power from the gimbal's d-tap (there is a thin sdi cable that is also attached to the gimbal permanently with velcros) This way If I want to strip my cam from fully equipped "C200" to "C200B" I just have to unscrew only one screw (by hand) and the side handle (also by hand), and put it on the gimbal in less than 30 seconds. This also applies if you want to switch super fast between shoulder rig / gimbal / lightweight handheld / slider etc. and use a relatively cheap big monitor/s where you really need it and the small canon's one for more tricky shots. I cannot imagine if I have only one monitor and I have to mount/dismount it every time I need a different type of shot, or to rely mainly on a big heavy v-mount power source where I always have to think where to stick it and deal with its weight all the time, or charging and monitoring 2 different type of batteries (for one camera) just to be able to power my monitor. Sometimes it's better to have light and versatile camera than bigger screen. And one thing does not exclude the other ;) As you said the canon accessories are relatively expensive if you have to buy them separately, and I don't think you don't need them, because they are the reason to be able to use this cam fully functional as small as a cam can be. The best option for me is to buy "c200B with accessory" kit, or c200 and get your EVF removed (if you don't use it, or you're using it with gimbals) and also second monitor for your other setup/s. If you shoot professionally, you have to buy a second monitor anyway (or you can already have one) so for me there is no reason not to be able to use your camera in a small lightweight package when you don't need all that extra batteries, cables, weight on your hands, and do you need them all the time really? Imagine if your wife wants you to shoot a little video of your kids - are you going to do it with fully rigged v-mount shoulder rig (that you don't have touch focus for ex.), or just grab the cam as it is and have fun with all functionalities and compactness that it can offer? :)

    Love your videos! Found you by accident! Was all set to buy a Sony FS7 then you showed up! :) The touch screen debate has me questioning the purchase. But I guess going C200 not B will be my best choice! A couple of questions...Is Canon finished with updates for this camera do you think? I wanted the other format that Canon promised! Is that a possibility in your opinion? What about a video for going the other way? Meaning spend a thousand more and get the C300? What are the pros and cons besides the money? Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

    • @Crimsonengine
      @Crimsonengine  Před 5 lety

      You're welcome. 1) Far as I know, there are no codec updates coming for the camera, definitely no 422 while the c300m2 is still selling. 2) C300m2 has no internal Raw, so you'll need a raw recorder like the Odessey q7 and something to power it and something to record to. It makes the camera package much larger and is more expensive, but checks all the boxes.

      I would go with the ProGrade 128 or 256: geni.us/progradeSD - if you don't need 4k and are going to shoot 8bit, the c100m2 gives an awesome 420 image with autofocus for under $3k.

    I bought the C200 about six months ago, and honestly if I could do it over I'd get the B *and* the touchscreen. The EVF obstructs several gimbals I've tried. So the question is, should I sell it to purchase a C200B, or send it to Canon to have the EVF removed? I wasn't actually aware the latter was an option.

    • @thekeenpixel5912

      I've seen there are tutorials on how to remove the EVF and a fellow C200 owner told me you can buy the plastic cap closing the hole in the housing after removal. I have the Ronin M and it works fine with the EVF - it's very tight but it works.

    Hi Rubidium, I know this is an old video you put out there 4 years ago, but I am the lucky owner of a brand new C200B as of two days ago, thanks to your many videos outlining the advantages and drawbacks. At $2500, I found that the camera will definitely meet my needs. However, I just have a question about HDMI and SDI output. For HDMI, both of my monitors and TV can only recognize a signal when camera is set to 59.94p. 23.98 and 29.97 go blank and the monitors say "No Signal". Any thoughts or tips? Also, I have an old Ikan VX7E HD-SDI monitor and it won't recognize the SDI signal from the camera. All I get is static. Again, any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. I am definitely going to sign up for your Masterclass as soon as I get the rest of my gear, as it is on the way (CFast cards, extra battery, etc,) Many thank for your contributions to the community!

      It could be the resolution. You are able to set the HDMI out to 1080p in the last menu, which could help. I suspect the camera is downgrading the resolution at higher frame rates. good luck!

      Ok I met with Canon support, and the monitor (Feelworld FW568 v2) was not picking up signal with 23.98p and 29.97p framerates 59.94hz. Also, an older Ikan VX7E reacted the same way with the HDMI. It did fine with 59.94p. In camera had to change the SDI/HDMI Scan Mode to PsF, Progressive segmented Frame. I think that sends interlaced video to the monitor. Well, that worked for all frame rates, but unable to get regular P - progressive scan.

Does anyone know a workaround for still being able to record ProRes on the external recorder while having all of the displays (WFM, Peaking, Info, etc.) visible WITHOUT baking that into the ProRes footage?
