  • Alan Wilson Watts (6 January 1915 - 16 November 1973) was a well-known British philosopher, writer and speaker, best known for his interpretation of Eastern philosophy for Western audiences. He left behind more than 25 books and an audio library of nearly 400 talks, which are still in great demand.

    I know if I was on my death bed, I would want to see this. I think this video could be highly beneficial for older patients in hospitals. I've shown this to several doctors and nurses, and gotten great feedback so far. If you know anyone who works with the elderly or hopelessly ill patients, please share this with them. I'd love to hear their feedback. These ideas could fix some of the major issues in our current healthcare system. I also want to give a big thank you to those who support on Patreon! www.patreon.com/AfterSkool

      For patiants maybe. But could be a lot less applicable as biological imortality technology is becoming closer. Not even talking about having superhuman bodies. Sooner or later, we will all die. But why not have a bigger lifespan and longest period healthy adulthood?

      Gleb Strelets I feel what you mean. That would be cool though. But If biological immortality becomes a mainstream thing in the future then of course a lot of people will want go on that route. Alan Watts said. We need to make more room for the next generation to come, which I agree so they can bring change and utilize this realm to their greater good. I honestly don’t have a problem with immortality but if people would want to live longer then in that case either they may just be to afraid to face death or they are just holding on to the physical world to the point they don’t wanna leave when there is other life we can experience that could be way better than Earth. I think Earth, it could also get over crowded maybe.

      @@Rynergy99 I think that in Elon we Musk (stolen phrase from Burgercrueg)... I mean, Elon Musk would and his companies would probably create a successful colony on Mars at that point. And I think that space habitats and biological immortality would go mainstream at the same time, because real estate would start to become more expensive at when BI started to work in practise as a product. And wealthy nations in which such a thing would go mainstream would probably have even less birth per capita then.
      P S BI would make bigger part of society want to protect the envorinement. In the begining, even the elites would probably start fighting for ecology, because no one can predict when space habitats will even become practical. Middle class is the next affected.

      There's certainly a correlation between traumatic life events and deeper intellectual and existential thoughts. In the same way you don't think about what would happen if your phone was stolen, all the information that could be lost, we don't think of how much our life is worth to us and others, and what it's all really about, until we might lose it. But it's not exactly necessary. Some people think ahead, they see the point and they see through all the bullshit society pushes, putting up distractions from the real meaning of life.

    First of all, I absolutely love your artwork and the way you enhance these excellent lectures. As to the subject matter here, I suppose I am one of the fortunate ones who has always accepted the fact that death is inevitable, and have had no fear of it going as far back as when I was a 6 year old and first experienced the death of someone very close to me. As I always tell people "I am not afraid to die, and if it were to happen tomorrow I'd be OK with it, but I am not doing anything to necessarily hasten the process because I also like my life." However, if I were ever to get some kind of terminal diagnosis I would take the quickest, most pain-free path to the end, because if I can't be active and feel good, there is no point in being alive. I have also had the end of life discussion with a parent and a grandparent, so the scenario he talks about around the 5:00 mark is something I've not had to deal with. While those deaths were sad, we in the family did have the "it's OK to go" discussion. I am surprised and dismayed when I hear that people can't or refuse to do that with a loved one who is near death. I've told my family I won't be waiting around to hear that from them, because I already know it's OK, but some people really need to hear that before they let go, and it's cruel to withhold that.

      Thank you, the sad thing is that there are families, like mine, that are not bad really but can't or didn't talk with me about the fundamental aspects of life. Now I've come to realise that the more I actually inform myself about those topics and the more I dig and think about it the more I accept it and actually see the real value of life and existence. Still I couldn't let go of the fear cause there is still a lot that I would like to do and be but I've at least come to a point where I'm thankful for every day and life itself

Get lies all the answers in which we as humans for someone reason need answered even though we already know. In which we die, let that be as blessed as birth. Fro how grate it is to experience one giving another life to plant earth! One can be full of gratitude and say, well that was grate, now off to the next dimension. • @kwamewins
      @kwamewins Před 4 lety

      Jay Bisky that line is actually flawed and clearly untrue - but serves as an easy point to make about the greed or supposed ego/supremacy of mankind. Our efforts to preserve our bodies posthumously are feeble in the grand scheme of time, even the ancient Egyptians were only able for preserve for thousands of years and poorly, which when talking of the natural order isn’t long at all (to put that in context universe is 13.4 billion years and earth 4+ billion years) so in the grand scheme of things we humans do return ourselves...every atom back to the universe to be recycled...hardly hoarding when you really think about it.
