It would have come across better if she put it out there saying, won't you join me in this OPPORTUNITY to BE A PART of the Maui revival. Even if you don't have anything to send, for $1 or $5 your name will go on a commemorative book in front of a monument creation that will have the names of the fallen, TBA. The whole point of this then becomes i, Oprah, an putting together this fund to directly help families and if you want to be a part of this project, I'm including everyone so nobody feels left out and those who can't afford anything significant can sacrifice $5 as she is contributing 10 million. I think that's where she was short sided and out of touch with the reality of how the people are feeling hearing someone who can rebuild maui alone, certainly with the help of others who enjoy land in maui. I think the bigger issue i have is with Facebook, I want every single person to get out of Facebook, Instagram, just bury Zuckerberg. I think he is a huge POS. I think Oprah is unfairly absorbing this outcry. Like I said, she should have made everyone feel like, come be a part of this with me and maybe for a high enough donation you can help vote how the funds will be distributed. To make it inclusive as possible.

In India, according to UN reports, there are at least 8-10 million people living in slavery; you still have a caste system that stigmatizes the "untouchables" here in the 21st century when truly civilized cultures have abolished both castes and slavery. On top of that, even with your population in excess of 1 billion people, a large proportion of whom are starving because your nation lacks the proper resources to feed, clothe and shelter all of them decently, your government is encouraging people to pump out even more children, who will then be sent to the US or UK or some other "privileged" country to take what wealth we may have as well.

Middle class and above that are single or couple with no kids will spend a small percentage of their income on food. I think typical is $250-$300 per month per person (not including restaurants). For a single person no kids, $300/mo is $3.6k a year and 10% would be $36k annual income

What’s happening is biggest ticket item people purchase (homes) has gone up but a big part of it is much bigger homes. People don’t notice as much they are paying a lot less (relative to income) on the majority of our goods and services because they tend to be smaller purchases each time.
In addition, people just want more and more. A home from 1970 has a lot less in it then a home in 2023. The Dollar isn't backed by gold reserves, therefore every Dollar is essentially printed out of thin air. That's not the main cause of inflation, though. If you get a home loan, the bank isn't lending you other people's money. They just create it, take their cut (interest and fees) and when the principle is paid off, that money simply disappears again.

Wrong, Property taxes are way too high and they keep increasing every damn year to market value. He meant total taxes. You paid your OASDI plus income taxes federal and state, then you pay your property taxes on your house, and then sales tax for everything you buy and then capital gains tax for any stocks you sell and short term is subject to short term capital gains tax. All of this is MUCH higher than your Netherlands taxes when combined, especially considering how little US gets in return for those taxes.

According to a recent article in the World Economic Forum, 3D printed houses can cost up to 45% less than those built with traditional methods, by eliminating the need for expensive materials and labor. We also need to reform our zoning laws. Minneapolis, Arlington, Gainesville, Charlotte, Walla Walla, Washington, and other cities have reformed single-family zoning laws in recent years. Oregon, California, Washington, Montana and Maine have ended them statewide.

The median individual incomes reported by the BLS and/or FED is already adjusted for the cost of living (inflation). It’s over 40% higher than it was 40-50 years ago.
Usually just one tv, one car often, fewer electronics and appliances, and far less clothes. People also didn’t spend much money traveling (didn’t long distances much) either so that saved them money.
But the income inequality is certainly a problem.
