    The TRX450R caliper is still 120$ from the dealer, just not every dealer. Some of the best prices I've found are from RONAYERS, and believe me, I've researched the best prices and prices do change over time from dealer to dealer; but, no more Service Honda or Zilla for me, I save ALLOT with them. I've read that spacer is a Yamaha part, I haven't found the part number because I have a lathe and I can make my own. That's how BDT makes their setup which is far more costly, but I can respect that some people just want bolt on parts regardless of the cost and that he offers a "bolt on kit" so to speak. The man saw an opportunity to capitalize upon the 250R crowd and he ran with it, gaining some praise and also plenty of hate. There's nothing wrong with the OEM ATC/TRX caliper, they don't leak if properly rebuilt, but it's difficult to find a core that is in good shape. Most people don't take apart their caliper and grease the slide pins from time to time, regardless of the year and make. By the time it's junk and resold, it's extremely hard to remove the seized slide pins without damaging the caliper. I've made all kinds of special tools and jigs to salvage these calipers as best as possible, and often it still requires oxy/acetylene to free things up. The steel bushing may come out with the slide pin if it's seized, and that bushing is a part of the OEM caliper, it's not available and never was, I have to make them. This swap is a great solution, but people still have to take care of this caliper as well as someday these will all be junk too from a lack of maintenance. Some guys are die hards that want only the period correct OEM parts, it's very possible to rebuild the ATC/TRX 250R calipers to like new, I did 4 last month. But, you have to have a very good core from 1985 and up and because it's an old part it's hard to source in rebuildable condition. The worst I've found is guys letting them sit in moisture, the piston itself corrodes and expands, which then damages the aluminum that houses the dust sealand can breaks the edges off, it breaks my heart to have those sent my way...

    Lots of great knowledge and info!!
    So let me get this straight as this may be my set up;
    250R arms / tie rods, 400EX spindle / hubs, any year YFZ450 / raptor 700 caliper?
    250r arms / tie rods, 04-05 TRX450 spindles / hubs, 04-14 TRX450 caliper?
    What master cylinder should I run?
    Thanks

      @PatrickRiggs33  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks! Yes you summarized that up perfectly and you are correct.
      You can also use 06+TRX450R Spindles as well but 04/05 is the preferred geometry.
      I would use a TRX450R Master Cylinder.

      @@tperez838 Double check me on this but I am 99% positive all rear master cylinders are the same part # for the TRX450R. I am using a 450r rear master, but it is not needed if the stock 250r master is working well.

    Thanks for the video..my stockers are fucked but in great condition. I am not gonna spend the time to rebuild them now. Looking for a bolt on solution and this seems the way to go. Can you run stock 250r spindles with 450 brakes ? Trying to do it cheapp

    • @PatrickRiggs33
      @PatrickRiggs33  Před 2 lety

      No sir you can't do that. The cheapest solution for the front is 400ex spindles, hubs, and YFZ450 calipers (Carb Model). That will give you a great setup.

    5-600$ for calipers 🤣🤣🤣🤣. i just got some from a guy near by for 100$ for all three . i was building a back up race bike for a racing buddy and the calipers he had were junk . i made a phone call to a guy i met that hoards 250r stuff . we put pads in them and raced a local xc race 🤣🤣

    also the back brakes on a 250r are more powerful than the back brakes on the trx450r . the 250 has dual pistons vs the 450r having single piston in the rear . id just keep the rear as oem and upgrade the fronts to 450 . the 400ex calipers are single piston and suck ass for anybody thinking of 400ex brakes 🤣

    • @PatrickRiggs33
      @PatrickRiggs33  Před 2 lety

      False. The TRX450R rear caliper is superior. Even though it is a single piston caliper it is a large single piston has more volume than the stock 250r rear caliper. Also, it dissipates heat much better and is far cheaper and easier to obtain new.
      Everyone used to put 250r rear calipers on the 400ex and Z400. Now people are putting oem Honda 450r rear calipers on LTR450s and YFZ450rs.

    • @PatrickRiggs33

      They are different and I don't believe you can use the 04/05 on the 06+ spindles. Do a part number search in the RMATV OEM Parts section and report back.

    • @PatrickRiggs33
      @PatrickRiggs33  Před 2 lety +1

      They are amazing. I love the reversible tread pattern. The way they are in this video is for hard pack, but you can reverse them for soft terrain. Just don't have anyone behind you because they almost act like paddles when they are setup for soft terrain. They really cup the soil and propel you. They are also 4 ply so a little more durable than your standard MX Tire. They wear very well. I'll always keep a set in my garage.
