      I agree, pity most people I know have either never heard of Heartbeat and/or watched it. Most peoples idea of TV entertain consists of binging of crap on Netflix and all other subscription based streaming sites. Some of the shows on those platform have some very disturbing themes, alot of them quite prophetic when it comes to certain recent events, almost like they knew something in advance something was going to happen, take for instance the "pandemic", alot of shows and films made in recent years seem to eerily predict this.

I get strange looks when I mention to people that I used to watch Heartbeat, like they think I'm a right saddo, comments like "it went on about 20 years too long didn't though" lol. Me too (well this is a repeat showing actually from 1995) and I was 14 lol. I think the target audience of Heartbeat for those who watch the repeats on ITV3 are mainly old people. Heartbeat seems to attract that age group; when I used to visit the village all I saw where old folk. Old people aren't exactly going to be subscribing to Netflix and Britbox as they probably can't afford it lol. Midsomer Murders seem to be aimed at OAPs, but unlike HB I hate it and can't understand why it's still going and into its 22nd series. I thought HB was corny but Midsomer Murders is plain cringyworthy, half the cast can't act for toffee.

      I have nearly every original broadcast recording of Heartbeat on tape. Some from the 1st (and I think 2nd) series were taped on their second run on ITV from 1995 (like alot of new shows Heartbeat hadn't really sunk in with us at that point) but from series 3 they are from their original broadcast, including this 1994 Christmas Day episode which we taped from the Granada region. Glad to see someone has uploaded it. I would do the same but I don't want a copyright strike on my channel. Most of the other channels uploading episodes are from the DVD versions, which don't contain the original Beatles and Jimi Hendrix songs, and probably why youtube aren't that fussed on deleting them.

    • @Embracing01
      @Embracing01 Před 2 lety +2

      @@Made1984. I agree, Heartbeat wasn't the same after he left (I wonder if he regretted leaving considering he pretty much did bugger all after Heartbeat apart from Harbour Lights and a lesser remembered series called In Deep?, can't have been the money as he was being paid about 30 grand a series - if only we could all earn that kind of money in our slave wage jobs lol). But I do agree with some that Heartbeat wasn't the same after Kate died. The show was originally written (I think the Nicholas Rea books were based on the same characters) to revolve around the lives of the village bobby and his Dr wife, and for Kate to die it left an empty space so to speak with noone to replace her role, so IMO it lost something before Nick left. Greengrass leaving was the final nail in the coffin for me, and I know alot of fans will disagree. Speaking of Greengrass, but I remember years ago my dad telling me that the original choice for Greengrass was going to be Derek Fowlds, and Blaketon was going to be played by Bill Maynard. No idea where he heard that from as this was back in the 90s when he told me this, whether this was mentioned on a documentary or in a book I don't know. I couldn't imagine Derek Fowlds playing a larger than life village rouge like Greengrass, and vise versa for Sgt Blaketon with Bill Maynard.

It's like they just added the "yikes it's Xmas and Kate is going into labour" cliffhanger ending and decided not to show her giving birth when the first episode of the next series started but wait until ep 2, and hoping noone would notice that she should've already given birth lol.
