    I'm going to launch my new platform "Learn with Pascal" soon, where I teach you filmmaking step by step. Here you find more information: pascalbasel.co...
    Shooting smooth handheld b-roll footage for your travel videos can be a bit tricky as you oftentimes can't bring too much gear. So the gimbal usually needs to stay at home. But that's not a big issue.
    As long as your camera has at least some sort of stabilization, you can get smooth handheld b-roll shots straight out of your hand. So in this video, I show you how I shoot most of my b-roll footage handheld and how you can do it too.
    I show you how to
    - do slides and rotations to the left and right
    - do slides and rotations in the horizontal achs
    - do forward and backward movements
    - do combinations of movements by using your strap
    - capture even more movement for smooth transitions
    Please leave me a like if you enjoyed this tutorial.
    Thanks to Gleb for the shooting. Check his IG: / glebkrs

    Super useful guide for people wanting to learn! Can you make a video about all your travel stuff? How do you organise your personal things and camera gears while traveling from one country to another?

      Thanks. That’s a good idea. I could do that when I go on a trip next time to film a tour in another country.

    Excellent tips, all equally apply to gimbals & stabilised action cams as you mentioned with the walking shots. 👍

      Yeah, OP is is great but mirrorless is still most flexible combined with a good zoom lens.

    This is great, exciting to see where camera tech goes, I got a GoPro8 and Osmo Action recently and when RockSteady/HyperSmooth come to the mirrorless cameras, these shots will be so much easier to make!

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  Před 4 lety

      Thanks, why did you buy OA and Hero8? It’s pretty similar cameras. And yes, if that stabilization comes to mirrorless omg...

    • @DigiDriftZone
      @DigiDriftZone Před 4 lety +1

      @@pascalbasel My girlfriend didn't close the SD card door on the OA and drowned it, I'm in the process of returning it for repair so bought a GoPro :)

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  Před 4 lety

      Haha I see, that’s a good reason. How do you like the OA compared to the Hero8 so far?

    • @DigiDriftZone
      @DigiDriftZone Před 4 lety

      Pascal Basel I think I prefer the OA, the GoPro shoots better quality overall but it’s sooo buggy, the app fails to connect when you need it most, it randomly locks up after charging and drains the battery, the battery door is so difficult to open, the interface is not as intuitive, i might just send it back and buy another osmo action!

    Great video super amazing place. May i ask you how you mount the monitor to the camera in that orientation on the rear end? Really like that setup instead of it being on the top of the camera?
    Take care !! ☺️

      @pascalbasel  Před 2 lety

      I don’t remember the exact product name anymore. But I think it’s a cold shoe arm or so from SmallRig. Just mounted under the camera at the tripod screw.

    Thank you for this handheld tutorial. Since you have a manual lens, how do you keep things in focus when moving forward or backward, shooting stationary objects?

  • @FamilyofTech

    What are you using to connect the external monitor to the camera?? That looks interesting.

      I use the PT-3 and U-40 from Ulanzi. A triple cold shoe mount and cold shoe monitor adapter. Quite cheap, paid 30€ for both together on Amazon.

    • @FamilyofTech
      @FamilyofTech Před 4 lety

      Pascal Basel but for the external monitor you only need the ulanzi Pt3 right?? I don’t see you holding the camera with the Ub40 correct?? At least on this video

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  Před 4 lety

      No, it’s U-40 not ub40. It’s the monitor mount. You need both.

    Hi Pascal. For b-roll, which focal lengths do you recommend and what are the lenses you use for b-roll?

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Dean,
      there is no general rule. You can get wide angle b-roll shots at 15mm or close-up zoomed in shots at 200mm. It’s really up to you and the shots you want to get. I alwayw make sure that I have the whole range from 15 to 200mm covered (right now up to 300). The zoom range that I use the most is 25-50mm. So a fast standard zoom is likely best to start.

  • @Nvrr0

    How are you connecting your monitor? Baseplate?
