2006 Honda S2000 Review: Honda's Greatest Sports Car?

  • Undoubtedly, Honda builds some fantastic vehicles with sporty aspirations. Nearly all of them are front wheel drive, which I'm cool with, but tend to conflict with the historical requirement of rear wheel drive attribution in being a sports car. Lucky for us, Honda built a gorgeously timeless convertible with fantastic handling prowess. Did I mention the absolutely screaming power plant (because I will....multiple times)? Come along as we experience a bone stock, fairly low mileage, 2006 Honda S2000. #hondas2000 #s2000 #carreview

    The Honda S2000 ROCKS, especially the AP1.

    I had this exact same car for 7 years. Damn good car. I got it in 2012 for 15k with 50k miles. Sold it for 17k with 134k miles.

      Sounds like the two of you spent some serious quality time together. Agreed fully, damn good car.

      @@autoobsessivegarage I will also add I modified the car and everything I did to it made it feel worse than OEM.
      The only mod that made the car feel better was the ecu tune. Being drive by wire you can use a hondata tuner, I got mine to 220whp and 180ftlbs with a tune and exhaust only.

      @@Understeerking those are legit gains with minimal mods. I've always felt like the S2000 is "pushed" from Honda...as they rolled out of the factory well sorted.

    Beautiful car and nice review.
    2006 was the first year for Laguna Blue. In addition to stability control (VSA), it was also the first year for the drive-by-wire system. There were a few other interior tweaks such as the outside temperature display, revised seats and the roll-hoop speakers.

      Thank you very much.
      And thank you for all that info…love how they constantly tweaked the car while it was in production, but there is no wrong way to get one as they were all fantastic.

    Good review.
    That is the best color, headlights, and tail lights.
    The neat thing is the F22C was not too different from the 5th Gen Prelude Type S H22. That engine is a 2.2L with similar tq and 220 HP. 7400 RPM redline.
    The weight of the S2000 surprised me. That's around what my S13 240SX is!

    • @autoobsessivegarage
      @autoobsessivegarage  Před rokem

      Right? It looks so small, but weighs about the same as a Z3, which is another surprisingly heavy 2-seater convertible.

    I'm in the UK and have just purchased a 2007 AP1 in platinum white pearl (we got the AP2 mods, but have the 2.0 AP1 engine). As far as I am aware the US didn't get the Platinum white pearl

      Didn’t know that about the AP1 engine being utilized later on…that’s pretty sweet.

      @super_hondas Před rokem +1

      @@autoobsessivegarage they are rare. PWP was a £1700 cost option with a 20 week wait, so probably less than 30 still in existence. The colour is like the NSX Pearl white

    Nothing beats the AP1 S2000, the other two CR and ap2 just doesn’t feel the same, 9,000 rpm redline is what they are missing after all 9,000>8,000 🤷🏽‍♂️

      I like a hot take, and this is a good one. I also very much enjoy the AP1…and it’s probably the one I’d buy.

      Thats debatable. I would argue it depends on what you use the S2000 for. Track car? I would 100% agree with you. Just a weekend cruiser or occasional commuter? AP2 all the way!
      I have a FA5 Si. The 2.0L K20 gets old very quickly daily driving. I can't wait to swap a K24A2 into it! But if it was a track car - K20.

      @@andydhillon1977 that’s funny I have all 3 AP1, fa5 k20 and 9th gen k24z7 I agree sometimes it gets boring reving the k20/AP1 just to get moving with traffic and it’s such a plus when driving my k24 around town I get around quicker haha !

      @@andydhillon1977 I had a couple FA5's and currently have an AP1, I disagree.
      Best car I had to commute was the FA5, the powerband is fun and the hp was low enough to actually use it. I have a 22 M3 Comp xdrive and it's insanely faster, but the power curve is boring (really linear) and I can't even use most of the power on the street.
      These cars rev out pretty fast, never had an issue where I needed more torque down low to commute normally. I have a prius and some how manage to make that thing dispite having no hp or tq...

    Hey it's my exact car, stock Laguna Blue. Get more comments on it for being a stock S2000 than modified ones seem to get. Mods are cool but I think I'll buy a K24 car like a TSX if I want to modify.
