This was such a fun night. It was before they built the stage in the L4OA room (now referred to as the NPG Music Club), so they were just set up on the floor. They went through this set twice because they were recording the album that night. Prince only joined in on the second set, but there was such a large gap between the 2 sets that most people ended up leaving. By this point in the night, there were maybe 30 of us left. I was in the second row of people in the audience, and there was nobody behind me (in the smaller room).
The funniest part of the night was how they were set up to record. One of the pillars had a hanger attached to it by wrapping duct tape around it. And then the hook on the hanger had a little microphone hanging from it. 🤣 It must have worked though because they played the whole recording back for us a few weeks later, and it sounded great. This version of the recording was just recorded on a cell phone in someone's pocket, but there is a high quality version of this whole show in the vault. 💜
