    Not that I’m a 5k racer, but after watching your videos and doing some laps (often then re-watching) I literally see the track different. It’s not a circle in my head anymore, and each turn has some meaning or important markers. I can tell that’s growing. By the end of the week I can tell in my hands whether the turn was good late in a run and I don’t need a delta to tell me that information. That’s thanks to you, I appreciate these videos so much man!

      Thanks for the kind words! Like you said being able to visualize each track is a huge step for improvement. I always talk about wanting to be proactive vs reactive and you can't be proactive without some of that knowledge.

    The biggest difference I've noticed is that in a 3k (ish) average top split the 5k driver will run people over so they don't lose their precious ir by not finishing up front. But for some reason they typically don't qualify, always take it three wide on the start, run people's left rear corner to slide them up the track, etc. Just my experience though.

      A lot of people do last to first type challenges when they get bored lol. I don’t really do that (on purpose) because I’m always trying to run my “perfect race”

      This has been my experience lately once I hit 3300 iRating... these top split people don't care who you are as long as you're in their way. They will send it with little care and hit you out of way.

    • @jwallace2913

      @@stormsurgeesports truth. Running c fixed today and the same guy (3 races in a row) with almost a 7k IR was going to the extent of disconnecting right before grid so he could start dead last. Then hang back on the start and jump everyone, make it three wide with guys not nearly as experienced causing wrecks while he flew by on the bottom. I really don't care what my rating is I just want to have fun but it is a little irritating having guys run like that, seems like an ego thing to me. I'm nearing 4k IR now so always top split and tbh I really miss running in the lower splits. Better sportsmanship and just more chill/enjoyable overall.

    I’ve learned trail braking, driving off of the RR, medium throttle in the middle of the corner and how to save tires. I’m still a 2,000 irating but I’ll get better. Just made my 800th start today. Thank you!

    Well said Justine. You had commented on my Bristol post on Reddit recently. I really understand what you are describing with asking why and how it can be difficult to explain. I can’t remember the track but it was the one before the current arca Bristol. Some old timer has told me to stop trail braking to rotate the car for a specific corner. He said blip the throttle to rotate and maintain speed. I was very confused as to how to tell when to trail brake vs blip the throttle after that conversation lol.

    • @DJYeeJay
      @DJYeeJay  Před rokem +1

      Yep! It's honestly track specific though. Sometimes the best way to rotate the car is the throttle, sometimes the brake, but almost never is it extra steering input.

    I think alot of the "feel" and the why just come to seat time and experience. I have drawn from alot of resources in my 2 years of simracing in order to improve, but seat time in both successful and unsuccessful races is where I really learn. Having connections obviously is huge too, and they don't need to be pro guys. Alot of times someone around the same level as me is just as valuable because they may have a different way to approach solving an issue I'm having that I didn't think of.

    I've only been on iracing a little over a year and my biggest struggle is new tires and trying to be fast I can't seem to figure out how to not spin... and I know I'm getting back to the gas but so are the faster guys.. but it keeps me from running official races because I'm just gonna get ran over which in turn takes the fun out of it... love the videos and I am learning just wish I had more help to understand why I'm struggling.. and just saying I'm getting to the gas to early doesn't help me because now I'm slower and being ran over either way

    • @DJYeeJay

      Different tracks kinda require different things to prevent this. What tracks are you referring to in particular?

  • @matthewgaffney853
    @matthewgaffney853 Před rokem

    The feeling that there talking about only comes with experience, I raced stock cars on oval for about 15 years in real life. The feeling applies the same and differently to both fixed and open races. Experienced drivers with the "feel for it" aren't automatically the better drivers you need something called talent and natural ability. If you have all 3 of these things you will eventually be a top driver with the right connections.
    IMO Having talent and the feel for it will separate the field more in fixed races. This is because having the feel for it allows us to find how we need to drive the car to be quick, keep the balance in the car and reduce tire wear faster then drivers who don't have the feel for it. We can recognize a tight setup or a loose setup sooner allowing us to adjust our lines and inputs to create a quicker pace and a more balanced tire wear/heat situation.
    Practice is important, I usually join practices when the race lobbies open 30 minutes prior, this is a great way to see what you've got. Are your lap times close to where you want to be? Have you figured out different lines to drive to keep the balance in the car? For example, races often don't go the way you want them to, some times you get looser or tighter then you were in practice with different aero forces on your car, meaning you can try that line that used the RR more of the RF more depending on if you were loose or tight. Some races I feel I have to almost over drive the car to keep the right balance in it usually when the car is tight. If you drive in to deep leaning on the RF into a later apex your gonna get tighter, this can help if you were loose. If you let out earlier into the corner, have an earlier apex and get to the throttle earlier your gonna lean on the RR more, this can help if you were getting tight. You've got to be there at the end so it's just practice really. A good way to see where you stack up on pace, keeping the car balanced and tire wear/heat is the arca series IMO. It will separate the field and give you some goals. Run it a few times and see if you can increase your overall race pace. Getting the "feel for it" comes with practice. Sure did write a novel but just wanted to put it out there. Thanks for the content boss!

    What I feel about higher IR racers is that they look at me, for instance, which only have 2.5k in 50 races or so and they always try to kinda intimidate me on track by pushing or trying to pass me in any way... My "luck" is that i have almost 20 years of NR2003 experience and although there are differences, there are also lots of similarities between iRacing an NR2003, so i +- can defend myself.
    I'm gonna look for your videos, because I need to improve more my tire management. Even using low BB and high steering ratio, i'm still burning my tire a little too much and suffer in the end of the races

    • @DJYeeJay
      @DJYeeJay  Před rokem +1

      NR2003 to Iracing in the current tire model is tough to adjust tire saving. The key to iracing tire saving is to adjust your line to be able to turn the steering wheel as little as possible while maintaining a reasonable pace. Replicating qual line with more patience doesn't really work all the time.

      It's taken me 2 years to finally get somewhat comfortable in these ARCA cars. ARCA is all I really run. I hardly run A B or C raced, too many cautions in my opinion. ARCA is so fun once you get comfortable in the car, and it's taken me 2 years since I joined iRacing in October 2020. I'm a natural at most things, but this has been one of the most challenging and hardest things I've ever done race on iRacing. To win is one of the hardest things you will sometimes find yourself doing if you are able to pull it off. I've spent 15 years on the NASCAR titles for the Xbox console from 2003-2020 before finally purchasing all the equipment to start off in iRacing 2020. All of the NASCAR Dirt to Daytona, NASCAR Thunder titles, NASCAR '09, NASCAR Inside Line, NASCAR Heat 1-5 all of those titles. With all those years of track experience and knowledge, iRacing is in its own league. Nothing compares to this the level of competition and skill that you have to learn through race after race after race to gain knowledge on the car & track you are racing. I typically only run ARCA Menards because I love green flag racing from start to finish. In my opinion you become a better driver from start to finish.

      @@yamaharacer5579 the lack of yellows is what makes me like arca so much as well. So many time in the fixed nascar series you got guys who will just absolutely burn their stuff and hope for a caution and get rewarded which is frustrating. Sometimes feels more like a gamble than anything

    My issue is a lack of patience and consistency. I could probably be a lot of better if I spent more time practicing every day instead of hopping onto a race with only the half an hour a practice like once a week. Trying to work on it, but it’s hard to keep up working 50hrs a week on top of music gigs.

    I've only been racing since 2021 and I'm already an above average driver, for the longest time though I didn't run many official races and did mostly leagues and hosted races and stayed around 3k irating, but recently I started putting more time into official races and I'm up to 4.4k irating and basically never get in wrecks while I see the same few guys with thousands more irating than me constantly over driving their cars and causing wrecks or just taking themselves out, a great moto to live by is "to finish first, first you must finish"
    No matter how fast you are if you can't hold yourself back from doing risky/stupid things you aren't gonna gain respect from anyone on track and you will just make yourself look like a fool, but then again when these people have all day to do these races I doubt they care about causing wrecks.

    I have a problem with iRacing now because it’s essentially a fast paced iPacing because how you save tires on here isn’t how it happens in real life. People can actually race without paying the ultimate price of someone lolly gagging in the back and zooming up 8 seconds to the lead after sand bagging. The tire model is bullshit
