How to Change oil 2019-2023 Kawasaki Kx450F

Hello and welcome to Ingrained MX, where Motocross is Ingrained in us!
Today we are talking about how to change oil on a kx450. Keep in mind the general procedure is the same across all dirt bikes.
Torque specs for drain bolt and oil filter cover taken from the owners manual are as follows
Drain Bolt: 10 N.m. or 89 inch pounds
Oil filter cover: 12 N.m. or 106 inch pounds (I don’t often go this tight even)
DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THESE BOLTS!

I use AMSOIL 10w-40 full synthetic dirt bike oil. I have had great luck with their oil in the past

Hey man, just picked up a 2022 Kx450, broke it in and changed the oil, I put one quart in, which is 32 ounces correct? And my sight glass is reading completely full which as the manual says is too much, am I crazy? I don’t want to blow the seals on a brand new engine

I always do a quart and it puts it perfectly in the center of the sight glass. Did you change the oil filter?

I did, I’m on my 3rd oil change now with hard riding and have seen no issues so I’m going to continue to go with a quart,I just thought it was odd. From what I had read on forums apparently the sight glasses can be notorious for strange readings

I didn’t but it’s never a bad idea to use one

Can you run without the oil filter spring?

No that spring holds the filter against the seal. If you don’t run it the filter could fall off and the oil will go unfiltered

I ran my bike for a long time without the spring and it’s completely fine but I ordered the spring to just be safe
