Honoring the Veterans Powwow 2022

Last weekend the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center held its annual Honoring the Veterans Powwow! The purpose of this powwow is to unite and honor Native and non-Native Americans who have bravely served side by side in the U.S. Armed Forces for more than 200 years!
Honoring the Veterans Powwow hosts nearly 1,000 veterans and active-duty service members, families and friends, and people from all walks of life. Attendees will be immersed in breathtaking performances, dazzling regalia and traditional music as 100 dancers and Native American drum group singers compete inside the towering, two-story glass-encased gathering space!

I can see in the dancers’ faces that each is connecting to their community and to their ancestors. This truth is strong and powerful. We thank these dancers today for their sensitive and meaningful example for all who follow them.
