  • Today we recognize an important day in the history of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation: the 40th Anniversary of our Federal Recognition. On October 18, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed into law the Mashantucket Pequot Indian Claims Settlement Act, officially acknowledging a relationship between the Governments of the United States of America and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe. This was the day the Pequots were able to settle their claims for reservation land that was sold illegally by the State of Connecticut in 1854-1855.
