Most of you who have followed me over the years know that I never blindly recommend Shopify to anyone. Shopify is NOT a one size fits all solution and it’s has very POOR out of the box functionality. Plus, it’s expensive compared to other carts.
Shift4Shop is the most compelling ecommerce platform I’ve come across in a while and has the best chance to dethrone Shopify.

Does using a vpn solve the problem of not being in the usa? Can i run my website smoothly with a vpn?
Been a 7 figure merchant with Shift4Shop (3D) since 2014. They are no longer accepting customers. They no longer have sales staff. They no longer have Project Managers. They no longer have an SEO department. They have no roadmap for their future plans. They no longer answer the above types of questions in their user forums. Customer support / developers are having major difficulty with stability and keeping things running. SEO has tanked with things such as merchant products being delisted from google after changes were made with servers and the back end. They cannot seem to fix it. I would be very careful with an investment in S4S as it appears this review may be outdated.
Do you recommend any othr platform?

Shift4Shop is only free if your shop makes over $500 a month! Otherwise they charge you $29 for each month that doesn't hit that sales minimum. Also the "free" option doesn't give you paypal, just credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express). To get paypal you have to pay an additional $29 a month. Also the user interface is super old and clunky and hard to use. I had to write bits of html code just to get it to do basic things, I might as well just code my website myself. Importing product listing data from etsy had issues. I had to re-upload all of the pictures and reenter some of the product details which took a lot of work. The one good thing I can say is the customer support chat is excellent.

you forgot to mention something VERY IMPORTANT - Its not FREE!! Its only free for USA customers, all other countries have to pay monthly subscription! Their website doesn't mention this on the main page, only when you sign up. but you should have mentioned this in your video!

Great comparo ---- a couple of other things that you could cover is the mobile user experience and site speed. Don't know how far this is true but I hear that when your store has a lot of shopify plugins, site speed goes down. That's probably not the case for Shift4Shop if more of their features come already integrated.

- speed?
- mobile UX?
- is the checkout optimized for conversion?
- checkout experience overall?
I'd like to give Shift4shop a go but these questions remain unanswered unless...I give it a go. Besides, there is not much help online for a first-timer like me. I'm really hesitant.
As a 17 year ecommerce seller, I'm frankly disgusted with Shift4Shop. They are not a reputable company. Charged me before I even had a chance to sign in at all- never used the site but they ghosted as soon as they took a fee for... obtaining my info? There's a lot of ecommerce sellers with the same issues- their billing dept does not take calls and does not respond to email. Resorted to filing with Attorney General and marking amount as fraud. Dishonorable and not at all about small business owners. I'll pay a little more if it means I'm not treated like US meal ticket to a scam.
what do you have to do to qualify for your payment processing? I just started my website with your company and I didn't see that any place. Just asked for my banking info.

I live in the USA. You mentioned in your video that you must QUALIFY for their PAYMENT PROCESSING PLAN. Since I live in USA, what's the chances of getting qualified for their payment plan? By the way, GREAT video and very informative.
You might want to let people know that all those wonderful offers from Shift4 are only available to US merchants. I watched this video and immediately went to shift4 to build my store, only to get the bad news from their customer help assistant. :( Please make a video for Best e-commerce platforms for International users continent by continent. (I'm from Africa)
They have closed their doors to everyone now. I just come from there and I live in the USA. They were giving away too much stuff and could function as a result.
I've tried to open my account at S4S but they are saying that they are not onboarding any new shop. Is that true everywhere?
If you have a regular store but want to do online but have the same inventory so it reports what sold in store and online. Will ship4shop do that? Have a pickup option or just a way to make transactions for instore and online?

Shopify has held my business back so much. Thanks for the video this is going make the world of difference for my business. My products where restricted by shopify limiting me to paypal which killed my sales.

S4S gets “unsecured site”warnings when opening in Chrome and some other browsers. My customers won’t go for that.

I hate shift4payments. I have had many merchant accounts for 10 years out of nowhere without warning after 3 months they closed my merchant account without any warning or reason. I have spent hours on the phone trying it figure out why.. They said I was high risk.. I sell self-help books.. I have many merchant accounts and I have never had an issue.. So now I am going to leave because I hate how I have been treated after being a 3dcart customer for over 5 years.

There appears to be a major caveat here. You must "qualify" for their payment processing plan. If you don't qualify you are out of luck. Anybody know how hard it is to qualify?

I’m don’t know much, but I’d imagine the ability to prove that you can drive sells to your site. Because if you’re not selling, they don’t get paid.
You need to process $500+ in sales per month using them as the payment processor. If you don’t hit $500/mo or choose to use PayPal instead, the cost is $29/mo. Hope this helps!

I was about to sign up for shift4shop, but on the 1st step of choosing type of business there wasn't a good option for handmade/handcrafted products. Back to the drawing board!

Shopify DOES allow SEO optimization and URI management for URLs of blogs, products, categories, and pages...
Shopify inserts extra terms into the URI . For example, the word "collections" is forced.

Is Shift4Shop better than Shopify for Canadians in your opinion and why? Shift4Shop is not free for Canadians. From marketing perspective, you’d think they would offer it as a competitive advantage to gain market over the Canadian-made Shopify.

yes, same here, BUT its still ok for pricing, AND the main feature is IT HAS ALL the tools built in, i.e built in label printing and lots of customisation
Tried to sign up, they kept saying my verification code that they sent to me wasn't valid. They could have come up with a better name, it's really bad.

Not recommended for professionals. My account got deleted after like 30 days because I was not using it. You cannot undelete it. You have to create a new account.
You must have not touched it at all. My daughter took 90 days to launch her store and nothing was deleted. There a lot of "professionals" on the platform. It's been around for a long time

@@eagleeatsmonkey3621 you can check Shopmatic which slightly similar to shift4shop but for outside the US. They have $0/month for the transaction model and their subscription models starts at $14/month. However, their target customers for now are businesses in Asia primarily Singapore, India, Malaysia and Hong Kong. It's s a good e-commerce platform if you just needing an online presence or expecting to have few sales per month.

Hi, I wanted to lett you know that based on this video I had decided to try Shift4Shop. I had two websites I was in the process of setting up usin their payment processing to avoid the montly fees, and was taking my time to navigate the steep learning curve in the process. In the meantime unbeknown to me, and with no notifigation Shift4Shop changed their terms and started charging me $29 per month per site.
Their new offer is "Could be $0 with a minimum of $500 in transactions". Their cancellation process was also questionable as you are required to cancel within 10 days of the billing cycle. I was with in the required time and conveniently the cancellations were scheduled for both accounts 1 day after he billing cycle which means another charge, I do not like that seedy practice.
Lastly, I also did not like the fact that I could NOT remove any personal, banking, or SS# information. They have stated this information will not be deleted for 6 months which I am requesting immediate removal.
I am on the phone with them as we speak and they are supposed to be terminating my accounts and refunding me within 24 hours. I will follow up to let you know how this works out, but thought you needed to update your video as the information is now incorrect by their current practices.
