Shaq was about to break down when he started talking about Kobe. He's thinking he could've done things differently with their relationship
To me, as a lifelong Lakers fan this will always be the biggest WHAT IF? A close second would be the CP3 trade to the Lakers but I can only imagine if Shaq decided to take a backseat to Kobe who’s about to go into this prime
Kobe was no longer willing to play with shaq
@@antoinefulgencediouf9735 If certain things played out a little different and Shaq was willing to take the backseat to Kobe, it would’ve happened
And actually got in shape like Kobe told him to.
CP3 trade would have gotten him 2 more rings. Shaq wouldn’t take care of himself, don’t think they would have gotten another 3 together. Kobe couldn’t stand his lack of commitment to the game, would have been uglier if he stayed.
I read somewhere that in 2004 that Dirk was on trade for Shaq to play with Kobe... I don’t know how true that was tho
Imagine if that ego didn’t mess up his work ethic. Definitely would’ve had 6-7 rings regardless.
He really could have won in Orlando he just wasn’t built like Kobe mental

The ego is what made Shaq, the most dominant big man. They go hand in hand. Ying and Yang

Pretty much why I always loved Kobe. You could see it in his face bro. He wanted it lol.
Shaq also said he wanted to stay in orlando with penny too lol

@@718datbxkid Orlando didn't want to pay Shaq. We Lakers fans are forever grateful
Shaq and Kobe's ego, along with a lotta things made that 2004 loss to the Pistons really painful for them.
That loss was Karl Malone and Horace Grant both getting injured right before the finals. The Lakers had no power forward. They had no one to guard rasheed Wallace. That Detroit team is the luckiest team ever. If Karl Malone got injured a series or two earlier, the Lakers would lost to the spurs or to the timberwolves and Detroit wasn't beating either of those teams.
That Detroit team wouldn't have made it out of the second round if the nets had been healthy. And they wouldn't have beaten the pacers in the conference finals if the pacers were healthy. They were the sixth best team in the nba that year.
@@RossRadikSherman are you insaneee?!!!? Lolzzz fucking over the hill Malone and grant?!!!? Pshhhh fuck outta here Yoo lolz nets where ass that year pacers would have been good but they lost pistons beat em so I really don’t know da fuck you talking. Bout yo lolz

@@25mL it was Kobe’s fault they split up kobe got jealous of shaq being the star
@@jeremiahlewis4630 This is a story from Phil Jackson ill make it quick. Shaq was injured for a stretch of games. This turned into Kobe averaging 40 for a month. Phill calls Kobe in and says, “Hey Kobe we need you to dial it back so we can keep Shaq involved in the offense. When he’s having a good offensive night he plays better defense.” And Kobe obliged....
I don’t understand where that narrative came from. It definitely didn’t come from anyone on the team. That’s a media thing. Shaq says they’d talk shit about each other to the media in the locker room then look across the room and wink at each other so...
I think people should let go of that narrative now. It was entertaining but it’s not true.
More if he would have stayed in shape!! Says Kobe
Even though I've been watching Shaq for 30 years, the size of his body just never ceases to amaze me. He's a monster.
He's a big man, not a monster but he did play like one lol
Kobe and shaq were unstoppable together if they did stick together they would 7 champions no problem. MAMBA FOR LIFE!!!

... this one of the only times he hasn’t said “I wouldn’t change anything” when asked about Kobe. He has a hard time being honest usually, but you gotta be straight with Matt and Stacks.
Say it louder! I never understood why people felt so ill towards regret. Its a sign of wisdom at work.

Anyone wondering about the whole story of that trade should stop guessing and start listening to All the Smoke episode 81, Jeanie Buss lays it all out on the table
Wrong. Many of y'all are not aware that Shaq signed an extension with the Lakers in 2000. So in 2003 his contract from 1996 ended his new contract was starting and that was the problem along with Kobe's constant complaining
This Shaq interview might be the best one
Them damn egos.. at least they got 3 out of 4.. its what counts at the moment.. and those moments were with kobe. Now, may he rest in paradise with Gigi..
If they won the Pistons series they probably could have patched up stayed together but after the loss plus the egos and infighting I can only imagine it was too much

Kobe Bryant was going to make penny Hardaway pay.
Shaq put in too much effort in displaying his dislike for Kobe for too long for it to workout. 🤦🏾♂️
If you’re in a fight with your brother, don’t involve outside people with their own agenda. Or even friends. Now they hate your brother for your sake, and you don’t even hate your brother.
Man and then for him to say he milked it for the press smh, Kobe wasnt built that way he damn near drove himself mad trying to leave shaq's shadow in the rearview
Facts
Shaq has a track record of throwing unnecessary shade towards his "sidekick" when they start getting more shine than he gets. It's always been an insecurity of his. He did the same thing to Penny which is why he left Orlando. Then he began to do the same to DWade in Miami.
@@drestathagangsta8880 all truth🤦🏾♂️ even today he talks like he’s a active center in the league when they bring up Big Men. It’s documented that he was in his feelings when a young Kobe’s jersey was outselling his jersey too.

Shaq is right, I’m interested to know about those Spurs dynasties too. It’s always Lakers, Bulls, LeBron. I want to hear about about how the Spurs were able to be amazing for 20 years. Someone do it please.
Timmy and Tony were the Spurs dynasty
Shaq’s right they would’ve had about 7 together. Prime Kobe was DIFFERENT. I will say props to Shaq tho there’s a lot of regret in his voice but he’s accomplished so much he doesn’t need to admit it. But he did & that’s real.
Shaq also said he wishes he never left Orlando. Shaq says a lot
They could have easily matched Jordan & Pippen with 6 championships. Don’t know about two 3peats w/ no defeats in the finals, but Kobe and Shaq definitely could have caught them with rings.
Dedication win championships and Shaquille O'Neal was dedicated enough to be in Lakers Rushmore.
That hurts deep hearing shaq say that

I don’t care what anyone says, of all the super teams, of all the dynamic duo‘s I’ve seen since watching basketball from 1990, never were the two best players in the world on the same team like they were with Shaq and Kobe.. people don’t understand you would have to have LeBron James and Kevin Durant on the same team while being coached by Phil Jackson to equal them...But since they did it through the draft with Kobe no one thinks about that.
IDK man, they should've found a way to keep Shaq!!
Go Nuggets! Love Shaq though!

Of course you wanted to be a laker for ever but the organization had to choose between you and Kobe.if they kept you Kobe would've leave because he wanted to build his own legacy and show that he can lead a team to championships as the alpha. Which is understandable cuz you have a heavy shadow on his legacy til nowadays due to the fact you were the FMVP for that 3-peat. That's why Kobe wanted his own team to prove he can win without you and Dr buss picked Kobe because he was younger and you were an aging superstar.
Shaq just said 1 thing about him is hell never disrespect anybody.... LIES!!!!
I caught that too. Like, what? He called Kobe a child, a weirdo, and said “I don’t even know this kid,” after he was on the Heat. And all the stuff he said about him publicly and privately when they were teammates. The guy has a strange definition of disrespect.
@@mjnorman9824 not just Kobe, everyone. Dwhite, McGee, every big man in the game

I feel like they maxed out at the 3 championships they won. It was at that point where Kobe knew it was now or never. If Shaq stayed it would never be his team so Kobe gave the ultimatum, either he leaves or I do and I dont blame Kobe for his Alpha mentality of wanting to be the top dog and leader of his own team. Kobe's one championship against the Celtics means more to him than the rest of his championships combined not just because of the caliber of the opposition, but because he was the general leading his soldiers. Again, just my opinion.
I feel you but I disagree with you slightly. The reason Kobe made it clear he did want to play with Shaq but more importantly wanted Shaq gone. Kobe could of went to another team. However there were some good players that could of took Kobe's spot in 2004.
