Walter responding to the question with "um, akchulally that woukd violate the laws of thermodynamics😡😡" was so perfectly in character that I genuinely had to pause the episode cause I burst into laughter.
🤓
It is my favourite scene of the whole series!
I mean he did ask him "from a scientist point of view"
If he used a new thermocouple they could time travel
In this house we obey the laws of thermodynamics!
Walt took this waaayyy to seriously lol.
It's the way he is. Absolutly zero sense for poetics. Remember the dinner scene with Gus in BB 3x11? Gus talking about the fish stew and fond memories and Walt then saying it's just neuro-chemistry....
🤓 emoji fits Walt perfectly
mans definitely on the spectrum
It's such a Walt thing to do though lmao
@@florianhoppe4159
Honestly that entire dinner scene annoyed me lol
Walt just try to make conversation you null bastard 🤣
Walt going all nerd emoji on Saul is the funniest shit ever lmao
☝️🤓
I find it crazy watching new additional scenes of Walter because it actually manages to make him more unsettling than he already was, not just in this scene but rewatching breaking bad. He seems so out of his mind here that even before Crawl Space I think he was a very crazed and unsettled man all along it's just the deeper he got the more it came out, to the point here where he's acting like a sleep deprived lunatic
Hasn't really lost his mind, just so deep in his own ego he's become withdrawn from other's social demands and also became extremely pedantic
Yeahh it's also majority of the time we see him in breaking bad he's either in his full on heisenberg persona, or he's playing the loving father or mentor to jesse. This is one of the few times we see him with someone he doesn't have any interest in manipulating
@@AdamOrfordMusic Thank you both for replying to my comment. I don't have many opportunities to interact with people so you both taking the time to tell me this helps so much
Yeah he is even more unsettling here because at least with BB we got kinda accustomed to his douchery. Here he's not even the main character and just kinda shows up here and there.
@@AdamOrfordMusic I see that. Without something to project on to he has to reflect on himself which is his most miserable. He probably hates himself for his mistakes in life
Walter must hate Back to the Future with a passion lol
That's because he identifies with Biff! 😉
@@afonsodeportugal I like the part where Walt tells Jesse to make like a tree and get outta here
Well Back to the future probably hates Walt too 😂😂
Quantum Leap and Terminator are probably on his shit list too. 🤣
He watches Ratatouille with his son in one episode and it doesn’t seem like it’s the first time. We can only assume he at least liked that movie and took the ”Anyone can cook” lesson a little too literally.
I think that the importance of this scene is the following: Both Jimmy and Walter ended up being hated by everyone who once cared about them. The difference is that Jimmy wasn't like Saul but Walter was always Heisenberg. That's why just one of them got redemption and lived to pay for his crimes
And also why another one of them died happily, satisfied and doesn’t have to pay for anything he’s done like a badass. Walter is a born winner. Jimmy is a born loser.
@@nont18411 you missed the point of the character by idolizing him
That's what makes the "So you were always like this" so impactful and ironic. I feel like you could say that both deep down always had this bad side they have fully embraced now, Jimmy was always Saul and Walt was always Heisenberg.
Difference is Jimmy's case nobody would be surprised as he was always a conman, and his fall was like a self fulfilling prophecy no matter how hard he tried to avoid it. With Walt everyone was surprised because he appeared as a harmless and nice family man, even though deep down he was always a prideful and resentful man, the cancer and the criminal life just revealed it at full light.
@@nont18411Jimmy was the only one that actually redeemed himself by paying the consequences for his crimes
@@nont18411I don't idolize Walter White, but I actually do agree with this. You could very much make a case for Walter getting the better ending than Saul. Sure, he has an unburdened conscience, but he wasn't redeemed and will be imprisoned for the rest of his life now. Real redemption comes from making amends with those you have wronged. Not to some nameless judge in some faceless courtroom.
3:48 "You are talking about regrets, so why not just ask about regret?"
"Why have regrets at all? What's the point?"
Something interesting to note here is that Walter’s “regret” ends up being another situation where he was bummed he didn’t just end up the undisputed winner. Leaving Grey Matter literally had nothing to do with Gretchen it had everything to do with his pride. He’s such a blind little loser that he can’t conceptualize a regret that’s more tangible than, “I can’t believe I let those damn dastardly folks steal my glory!” And not, oh I don’t know, “I wish I never poisoned that kid, or got 10 people killed in prison, or let an innocent woman die, killed Mike, or got involved with the business at all.”
Walt’s ends up being such a loser that is miserable to even be around
Who you calling a loser lil bro?
I was wondering if someone'd defend Walt.
I think I can sum this up "the true loser is someone who admires their enemy, rather than properly standing up to them."
No horrendous action an abuser did nor a trait they have would stop you from being on their side, because you're such a coward you'd rather kill resistance to prove your loyalty to evil in order to be safe from it hahaha@@muhammadeyssa23648
@@muhammadeyssa23648 Walt is a sore loser though. He had multiple chances to simply swallow his ego and got moneys and security for his family. But he is too stupid to see it and kept going to the point of no return.
Look at him eyeing the watch, the watch he got from Jessie. I think he feels some remorse over how he treated Jesse but cant admit it to make it seem like he's the smaller man. Just like Jimmy he's deflecting his true regrets and instead says some peeve that they got to answer the hypothetical
oh yeah the famous killing mike regret. mike was such a great person. not a cold hearted assassin
Walt being pissed about the mere concept of time machines and cutting through the bullshit was so on point.
"Stay in your lane" lmfao
that scene would go down in meme history i guarantee ;d;d it was hilarious ;d
That was a dick move of Walt.
Imagine if Chuck tried talking to him about electromagnetism. Their egos would get on like a house on fire.
Realizing Walt and Chuck are very similar here, talking down to Saul and just the predicament both are in
We all already knew how incredible he was, but it’s such a testament to Bryan Cranston’s acting ability to be able to seamlessly transition back into this character so many years later and do such a perfect job
And he manages to play Walt at his various stages and points in time. There's a big difference between S2 Walt and S5 Walt, and Cranston played both brilliantly in BCS
@@joseluis5055 absolutely
that white shirt he's got, a reference to the great walter 'white', bravo vince
Vravo bince
them both being men, a reference to the better Saul Good'man'
This scene was perfect because it was one of the only scenes where we saw Jimmy with Walt all the other scenes it was Saul with Walt, we really saw a heart to heart conversation with them two which in my opinion what was missions between the duo in breaking bad
Nah Walt is still heisenberg in this
Yep, its true Jimmy and Heisenberg at his worst
@@seamusocearnaigh3518 Walt and Heisenberg are the same person, he’s always been Heisenberg he’s just never tapped into that element of his life before he got cancer
@@seamusocearnaigh3518 we defiantly see a lot of Walter in this rather than Heisenberg with him looking at the watch regretting what he done to Jesse
Heisenberg almost die with Hank
“Stay in your lane!” 😂 😂 😂 😂 I’m dead ☠️
From a chemist as well
Yeah, yeah. Very funny.🙄
I'll stay in MY own lane, but I still think that time travel is a scientific possibility no matter what.
He says speak up because his ears are still ringing from all the gunfire he was in a couple days before this lol
🤓the kind of time travel that you're thinking is a scientific impossibility. It will violate the second law of thermodynamics.🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
STAY IN YOUR LANE!!!!!!
Walter: "In this house, we obey the laws of THERMODYNAMICS!!!!"
Actually the world's smartest human, William James Sidis, published a book about defying the Second Law of Thermodynamics. It was all theory of course still interesting to know.
TIME TRAVEL IS A SCIENTIFIC POSSIBILITY NO MATTER WHAT!!!
I think it's not only walt being a wisecrack, he is absolutely pissed at the concept of going back in time, because he would like to, but know he can't. He sees it as an attack against his personal accountability.
"stay in your lane 🤓"
This to me is a great summation of Walter's true character: first he's demeaning when it falls under the subject he understands because he has to be the smartest person in the room and when an alternative researched by different group is brought up he's dismissive and deflects because on a conceptual level can't handle the idea he's not the smartest person in the world.
I think he changes the subject away from quantum mechanics not because Jim "doesn't know what he's talking about," but it's a field that Walter isn't fully versed in. I think he doesn't actually know enough about that particular field to prove or disprove the wormhole theory, so instead he deflects and demeans so he doesn't have to admit it while simultaneously putting the other person "in their place," ie beneath them intellectually.
It's a very classic trick used by people with narcissistic personality disorder, almost textbook really. And if anyone were to try to claim Walter White wasn't someone with NPD, I would point straight to this scene
I don't quite agree with this interpretation. While Walt develops some psychopathy, machiavellianism, and narcissism (unrelatedly, I hate how much that last term is overused and misused online), there's nothing to suggest that this subject matter is entirely beyond his ken. Moreover it's made plain that he *does* feel bad, but just can't bring himself to talk about it. Walt's bluster is typical of his character in that it's a tactic to obscure his actual feelings and regrets, and it pins the blame on some outward force instead-e.g. Gray Matter, instead of actually talking about what's actually on his mind (in this case Jesse).
Saul likewise shares no interest in earnestly ruminating here, though his approach isn't to deflect and smear, but rather to pretend that he has no real regrets to speak of; he does the exact same in the opening flashback scene with Mike. While Mike can somewhat see through the facade in the opening scene, Walt cannot here, perhaps because of his more condescending relationship with Saul.
@@flyforce16 I didn't say that it was beyond his ken though. But it's not his field of expertise. Walt is a brilliant man but his focus is in chemistry, not quantum physics. He's arguably one of, if not THE most brilliant chemists in the world. Straight up. But it's not unreasonable to assume he doesn't know everything about every intellectual field outside chemistry. Although even then I'd even say he's more than above average when it comes to a bunch of other subjects.
But that's the thing with narcissists: they can never accept being "B students" in any field of knowledge. They HAVE to be the best. Not just the "A+ student" but the best of everyone. It's an unreasonable mentality unmoored from reality, but they don't call it a "personality disorder" for nothing. And when someone with NPD is confronted with the fact they're not the absolute best at anything, they dismiss it as unimportant. Because that's how this personality type typically makes good with the fact they're not actually the best at everything: the things they're good at are the only important things and everything else is trivial and unimportant. Which is exactly what Walt does. Textbook example.
It doesn't actually matter that Saul was just using this as a thought experiment to explore regret. It's the fact that Walt rejects it on principle and HOW he rejects it that's really telling.
Anyone else happy to see goofy Walter back? Just smacking the thing to fix it.
One of the only genuinely sad scenes imo. I was on the verge of tears.
I actually never really considered the fact that people often fantasize about the idea of time-travel precisely because they wonder how their life would have turned out if things in particular moments had taken a different turn. This show is perfection.
Walter being annoyed is hilarious always he has such a way of expressing his annoyance I love it

Was I the only one that thought for the briefest moment this was a prison scene after Saul was arrested and that Walt was alive?! They cut in to this perfectly after Saul got nabbed. I thought they were revealing he’s in a cell with Walt and that he survived lol
Bro. What? Yes you were the only one…
@@muhammadeyssa23648 I think is explained it well enough, it seemed like for a moment it was sale in prison and walt was there before I realized it was under the Vacuum store
Probably, yeah, especially because El Camino and the episode before the finale confirmed Walt's death for good, not to mention he appeared bald when he had hair in the finale so not for a single second I thought both were in a cell together in the "present" time
This is the moment Jimmy became Slippin'
This scene reminded me of the Red Dead Redemption games where they take place in one large overarching story. Walter and Jimmy are both the main characters in their stories and here is when they've reached the crossroad in their paths similar to Arthur and John
Walt the whole time: 🤓
This is the moment Walter became Hal.
Walter scientifically correcting Jimmy about turning back time is so on point. Definitely the Walter White that I remembers.
And Jimmy didn't talk back because he know that Walter was right. Jimmy was talking about correcting what he has done in the past, not the idea of time travel itself, yet when it looks like he's going to confess, he suppressed it by being Saul again and again.
never thought I could hate Walt anymore than I already did
Aww. I’m sure he cares lil bro.
Walt being 🤓
I always wondered why in the Chuck flashback we see he had a copy of The Time Machine by H.G. Wells.
I think I understand why.
As much as they had their differences, and grew to hate one another, Chuck truly was one of the few people who Jimmy genuinely connected with and cared for.
They were often in tune and had each other’s backs, and this is represented through the notion that Chuck probably would’ve respected Jimmy’s time machine question and would’ve given a thoughtful answer.
The people Jimmy eventually chose to associate himself with, people like Walter, wouldn’t.
Water reminds Jimmy of his brother. Just how Jesse reminds Mike of his son.
Walt will embrace a solution more agonizing and violent than Saul, who would simply forgo a pleasure and solve the problem.
Errm Aksheully time travel isn't possible
Waltuh, only talk about practical matters Waltuh
His entire world and empire had thoroughly shattered around him, yet Walter has the time to get really mad about time travel lol

In the last conversation between chuck and saul he talked about his regrets too and chuck said why have regrets at all…
And yet we know from Chuck's reaction immediately afterwards that he really regretted saying that, and was just doing so to hurt Jimmy. Chuck and Jimmy both had regrets about their relationship, but they were never able to do the proper introspection until it was too late.
