My friends and I used mini braids in our daughters' hair to grow their hair and it worked wonders. We started using the style as a low maintenance protective style that was convenient. We soon got a little frustrated that they're hair grew so long and thick that this was the only style that made sense anymore🤦🏿♀️😂 Now my daughter has locs that's nearly waist length 🤷🏿♀️
Thanks for this video Natural Academia I love protective styles. Most of us wore these styles as little girls and achieved massive length. In this case, history repeating it self is beneficial😁
Yes, girl! I did mini braids about three days ago, too. I also wanted to leave them in for about two weeks. I knew I liked you for a reason, we're totally hair twins 😂
I've been following your regimen(down to the products you've recommended) and my hair has never been in better shape. Thank you! Also, your braids are pretty.
I’m still shook that you went from BSL to Waist length in 6 months 🤞🏽😩😩 My hair does not like braids or plaits 😔 she loves to mat and tangle in them but she lovessss twists. You have a lot of patience doing this style lol.
I love all your videos. Took your advice months ago and started using tgin and palmer's Olive oil, Camilla rose curl maker and can say my hair has never been this moisturized, thank you so much!
You did a great job, the braids came out really nice!! I love your videos by the way....you keep it simple from the styling to the products. No over manipulation.Ive watched many CZcams videos during this pandemic because I haven't been to the salon since early March, which is when I had my last relaxer. I don't feel a bunch of products are necessary for hair growth, nor the different styles. Yes, it takes time to do natural hair, that's a given since it growing from out scalp, but it doesn't have to be that complicated
I've been waiting for someone like you to come into my life to help me with my hair. I use to have locks and i combed !!! yes!!! combed out my locks and my hair was literally touching my breast after 3 yrs of having the locks and my hair was so badly damaged and very thin because i lost like 60% of my hair. I had no choice but to cut it and its been 6 months since the chop and my hair hasn't grown that much plus its still thinning so i'm gonna try your method and we will see how it turns out .You inspired me to take better care of my hair, thank you.
Hey! I also combed my locs a little bit over 6 months ago. What made me retain my length again was low manipulation styles. I used to wash my hair only twice a month and would tuck my hair into cornrows or pineapple style. And what played a major role in growing fuller hair was leaving castor oil in my hair for atleast 3 hours after braiding out my hairstyle. I did this for 3 months and my hair was healing rapidly. I am now able to even do twist outs here and there. Oh btw I did not use any extra hair because I was afraid it might fall off. I did however use bun extentions to make me look a little bit older. The styling however due to fear of hydral fatigue, I only used a liquid leave in and sealed it with grease, which gave me the best results. I went from high porosity to low porosity in a month, but now my porosity is starting to be blanaced and leaning more towards medium porosity.
Hi. Thanks for this vid. I've been twisting my hair since my big chop 4 years ago and my hair stopped retaining length since about 2 years ago. Hair's currently 8" and 9" all over. I don't think mini twists help me retain any length anymore no matter how gentle I am wt my hair. The matting and tangles are just something else. Looking forward to trying these mini braids to see if my hair retains at least an inch for the first time in years I guess 😂
Hi there So good to watch your video after a long time. Where have you been? I also appreciate it more today, because I could hear what you were saying. Music is not drowning your voice. Good soft music. You have a good hair strenght.
Wish I could do it because it’s so stylish but It’s the take down I won’t be able to handle .or else i plan on leaving it in without redoing any for 6 months
I see this video is old, so not sure you’ll respond. But, I’m wondering, when you’ve worn your hair in these braids, did you ever do vacation and get in the pool and/or beach water? And if so, how did they hold up and how did you maintain them?
Can you do an in-depth tutorial on how you braid? Like how to correctly braid the hair strands? Idk how people grip the bottom of their hair or the pattern to how they braid ugh 😭😭
I wanna try this but how do you deal with your hair after? Does it stay greasy for a long time? Also I wonder about sleeping on it too. Cuz I would break out with the grease on my face.
Girl I have a question...was there like a point in time where your hair length was different all over your head? I mean I got longer hair at the back than at the front and that's kinda crazy. Not sure if it's normal...Could there be any remedy? ( I know your not a hair specialist per say but do you have like an idea or something?) also what do you use to grease to hair and how often do you do that? xoxo
I know you asked her and I’m also not a hair specialist, but I dealt with the same issue. The only thing that really helped me was cutting all my hair to the same length (or if it’s not a drastic difference then around the same length) and then protective styling so that the front could eventually grow out to meet the back. Not sure what your hair type is, but oils like castor, avocado, and olive oil have helped my hair grow and get healthier. Unfortunately this could also be genetic. Good luck!
Parts of our hair grow faster than the other parts, it's normal. Check that you're not doing anything damaging first and then it's just normal. Just keep growing the hair like that until you reach your desired length and get a trim if you want afterwards, otherwise you'll be forever cutting your hair to match lengths
Thank you!! I really appreciate you for your support ❤️ In regards to your question, I’ve actually lost some of my edges about a month ago due to stress and I am currently on the journey of repairing them. Lately, I have been applying peppermint and castor oil to the damaged parts and within about two weeks, I started seeing growth.
I wish I can do mini braids but my hair does not stand down. I did it once and it was going in all different directions like the Wendy’s symbol...the girl with her pigtails.
I know you asked her but if you have low porosity hair or just hair that does not dry fast DO NOT AIR DRY, especially if you were a bonnet to sleep (which you should but not with wet hair) her hair is high porosity I believe so I think she can pat it dry a bit and then air dry or if she wants blow dry ig
Yo! You used my song "Body Language" in your video! I'm really honored. And I really enjoyed your video. Just subscribed :)

@@NaturalAcademia how do you keep the braids moisturized while wearing this style?
My mom doing mini braids in my hair be like "Care this well because it's lasting all summer!" lol
Done this style once and with shrinkage my braids reached up to my ears :(
Just a suggestion, but may be try blowing it out first! I’ve seen people do it and blowing it out first elongates it
Same, mine only looks shoulder length do to the heat. Lol. It's cool though, I mainly wear them under my wigs.
I just did a minibraids tutorial and I had shrinkage as well but they still came out NICE!!!
You can stretch it out by banding it with a scrunchie
I usually put mines I big plats after washing so it can stretch out then I take off the plats then start braiding to reduce shrinkage

How come your hair doesn't shred.. When I finger detangle I just see hair in my hands nd on d floor really annoying
*shed definitely not SHRED
Sameee
You might need protein
Probably need to try deep conditioning or protein treatment or tea rinse cuz ur hair shouldn’t shed that much with finger detangling
I can relate, even though frequently deep condition it still sheds the same. I might try hot oil treatments.
Beautiful healthy natural hair.
Thank you!! I really appreciate you for your support 😊 ❤️
I call them plaits and been doing them since I was 8.
How do you moisturize your hair when it's in those types of braid without it drying so quickly?
Your hair looks lovely

All that work for only 2-3 wks?.
I would have thought at least 6wks.
Wow so beautiful! Do you wash them as well? Or wait until you take them down?
I’m late but I’m here ☺️

Can you do an in-depth tutorial on how you braid? Like how to correctly braid the hair strands? Idk how people grip the bottom of their hair or the pattern to how they braid ugh 😭😭
lovely!😍 i usually stick to twists, but how long did these take you to finish? and would you say they last longer than doing twists/mini twists?
These took me 6 hours to do, they definitely last longer than twists

why is your head shaped so perfectly?
😭
lol
How do you determine what your hair porosity is?
By how my har is able to take in and retain moisture. Hair porosity tests are also a great way to help determine ones porosity
Do you spray your hair with water before implying the products?
preeeeettttyyyyyyhair.
Nice 😃😃

Hey!Do you have any tips on how to minimize hair shedding?Oh and I love your braids😊How long do you keep them for?
Do you just put Shea butter and oil on the ends once it gets dry or. Also do you wash it after 2weeks or...just wanna no what maintenance is like.
No, once my hair starts to get dry in the braids, I just unbraid them. I wash my hair once every 4-5 weeks
Natural Academia thank you that was helpful so I’m assuming you just remosturize and rebraid until wash day.
Did anyone else notice that one twist she did towards the ear closer to the lemons instead of a braid.
*sigh* How many years will it take for my 4c hair to get to this length?
About 2-3 depending on what length & health you’re starting from & how well you take care of your hair.
From ear length I believe she mentioned this took 6 years
Gang gang
I wish I can do mini braids but my hair does not stand down. I did it once and it was going in all different directions like the Wendy’s symbol...the girl with her pigtails.
Lmaoo, maybe try getting it professionally done?
Natural Academia ... lol nah I’m good. I’ll just do my mini twists and go 🤣🤣
Is that a real lemon tree??
Imma need the tutorial bc I can’t braid to save my life 😭💔
Have you tried biotin
No I have not, would you recommend?
Lol what’s your quirk?
how long do you leave the plaits in before you take them out abs wash your hair? and do you air dry or blow dry?
I know you asked her but if you have low porosity hair or just hair that does not dry fast DO NOT AIR DRY, especially if you were a bonnet to sleep (which you should but not with wet hair)
her hair is high porosity I believe so I think she can pat it dry a bit and then air dry or if she wants blow dry ig
