  • KFR has developed a system for the first-in engine company on a confirmed structure fire in a high-rise incident as a form of default operation under "most" circumstances. There are many considerations for first in officers for a high-rise incident size-up, which is considered in the approach. This system helps alleviate some of those initial duties from the officer by having individual crew members set up to "check the boxes" for a more efficient size-up prior to ascending.
The fire attack approach can also vary in a high-rise incident, especially in commercial or residential applications which is no different here in Kamloops. Having said that, this system will likely remain similar in the future despite changes to hose and nozzle packages as KFR adapts to the industry standards for high-rise operations over the coming years.
This approach can be adapted for many situations but still allowing a default mode for mixed-member crews as is often the case here. For clarification, Kamloops often has non-regular crew members due to various reasons, and there are different approaches from officer to officer/crew to crew.
