Steps for Upgrading Glass Fireplace Doors:
    1. Start by removing the old doors. Most are usually held in place with a few screws that can be loosened with a nut driver.
    2. The new fireplace doors should come with straps that will be used to secure it to the firebox. To determine their placement, attach the straps to the bottom of the door and hold the door back in position in the firebox. Mark where the straps land on the base of the firebox using a pencil or a marker.
    3. Remove the doors again and drill holes on the marks using a masonry drill.
    4. Place the doors back in the firebox and line up the straps over the holes in the masonry. Clamp the doors in place and use a level to ensure the door is in the proper position.
    5. Secure the straps to the firebox using a drill driver.
    6. With the doors now secured in the correct position, add, mark, and drill for the straps on the sides of the doors.
    7. Secure the rest of the straps into place with the drill driver.

Mark replaced the existing fireplace doors with the Caron Vintage Iron Fireplace Doors, which were manufactured by Woodland Direct (www.woodlanddirect.com/).

I've been watching this old house since the 1980's. Love this show so much!! In fact, I now own my own custom cabinet shop, and am aspiring to build my own home, and this show was a huge foundation in my life.

Are there any videos to help me take my old fixture off? I was trying to take my old screen frame off and it appears to be connected to the flue handle. I don't know what to do. Im trying to prepare my fireplace for a new door I ordered.

We have a hole in our basement in closed doors. Plus our wash machine hose drains down in it. It plus some lint sits in there . What can we pour in the hole to keep it clean. It’s was down there when we bought the house. Don’t know what to use to get it not to stink

My wife picked up for free, an old brass fire place frame just like the one in this video! She did just what you suggested and did just as John Anders replied! She took it outside, sanded it with light grit sandpaper, cleaned it and spray painted it with a flat black heat resistant paint! I was searching for a video on how to install it, when I found this video! After I install it, I'll post a photo!
