Been in the business for 40 years now, started out as a bell poster with glue and paper, I saw that going away. Got into the vinyl installation. 61 years old now go out and drop and hang a 14 x 48 vinyl by myself, in 45 minutes.. I use a rope, boat winch, and a drill. Other companies use four guys and the crane. Innovation and willingness to work, can make you a fortune. Of course Work comp insurance, and high liability, are your biggest expenses. And gasoline!
Hell, here in Outfront in Minneapolis-St. Paul we do our 24x90 with 3-4 guys pulling the vinyl across the top. We got a winch to pull the vinyl up with a rope bag. Our 38x42 and 40x30 is usually 2-3 guys at the top one at the bottom. All 3 are roof units, but using a rolling device is nonexistent here. Crane/lift use is hardly allowed.

So even though you are your own billboard company you hire people from Lamar to install the vinyls?
Bray Outdoor Ads is the Billboard Agency and Lamar Outdoor is the Media Owner. We buy the media on behalf of advertisers. I do know smaller Billboard Companies do outsource the installs though.

I work for outfront in canada and never thougt you would take a crâne for this we do it by hand With a tool too unrool the bulletin
Down here in Minneapolis Market, we do it all by hand. We can't even get a lift unless it's a beam board, and that's still like pulling teeth to get.
What does one get paid to put up billboards?
We are the Outdoor Agency and we use the big players (Lamar, Outfront, CCO) and smaller players for installs, but from some research, it seems like the low end is $12-15 per hour on up to 50k+ per year w/ benefits. Link below:
