What impresses me the most about this story is the previous owner, Mitch. He understood and respected the emotional connection enough to get the car back into the hands of this family, likely leaving money on the table, instead of seeking maximum BaT profit. I agree, quite the gentleman. This car hobby needs more people like that.

Beautiful story. I had a 2000 camaro ss I purchased back in 2004. I met my now wife shortly afterwards and got married, started a family. I ended up having to sell it in 2013. Fast forward to 2019 my business was doing well and my wife and I were talking and I said what do you think about buying the camaro back. It was out in NM and the gentleman had always promised first right of refusal. I contacted him and he said he would absolutely sell it back. A month later it arrived and it will forever stay.

Well he sold it to a much older coworker at the ripe old age of 21 and he had it for 4 days, didn't even have insurance on it yet and he was doing a buck 40 down an old country road that followed a river so it was curvy and not well maintained. Well he took a corner at 100 and put it in a tree and nearly killed himself and his friend. Only thing that wasn't totalled was the motor and a couple rims. 12 years later and I bet he wished he woulda just sold it to me.

Love this story. In May 2009, I bought a new 09 black Mustang GT. It was the last 09 my local dealer had and they were getting 2010s in already. That fall I traded it for my first Wrangler. I loved the Jeep but always missed my Mustang. Years later I moved out of state. Skip ahead to November 2020 and a friend at that same Ford dealer texted me about this “low mileage Mustang”. Immediately I knew it was mine. I gave him the VIN number and confirmed it was my car. I drove straight there and bought it back. Amazingly, the guy who had bought it never reset my my radio presets. It’s now home and never going anywhere this time.

I saw it rock up on a tow truck in a million different shades of rust and primer and i cried when he sold it a few years later. If i ever see it again ill buy it back and gift it to him.
We bought an e32 7 series and he has restored it and recently a kid came up to him at a car show and said that him and his dad had originally owned the car and did a heap to it, he asked my dad if he ever sold it to call him first, of course my dad agreed.

This one hits hard for me. My grandpa and dad had went in together for a 1970 Roadrunner. Essentially nearly the same story, but both were car guys, tinkered and such on that car. I have a fair number of memories of the car and riding in it. Then my parents had a falling out, went their separate ways, car went with my dad. He continued to tinker and such with the car, then decided to fully restore it. Last time I saw it, it was in pieces all over the garage. He gets pretty evasive when asked about it, so pretty sure he's done something he probably shouldn't have in the moment. But it's that legacy feeling, of just not wanting to let go of that piece of family history, to tinker and work in the footsteps of those who were there before you. I pretty much keep an eye out just incase, until I get that firm answer from my dad on what happened.

We used it for a little while and then parked it until I got my license. It was not very well suited to daily driving but I drove it until I needed something practical and reliable for college. Fortunately my great-grandmother had gotten too old to drive so she gave her car to me for free. That became my daily driver and my old Jeep became my nice day cruiser. It’s not often where I feel strong emotions from a CZcams video, but this one hit close to home.
Earlier this year, I was blessed with the opportunity to purchase “the car that started it all for me” and my ultimate dream car. I grew up in my grandfather’s 84 Ferrari 308 GTS QV and it was always an earned treat to go for a ride and eventually drive it with him, many years ago. My uncle was the curator of it for close to fifteen years and it brought us together, among his other cars that we had/have an absolute blast driving. This now makes me the third generation family member to serve as the curator of this magnificent part of our family.
Ultimately, these cars are about the stories and bringing people together. For me, it’s not a “hey, look at me” (yes, I see the irony of this post on social media). Seeing people light up when they see this car and how it sparks something within them is something I love to see. I remember being the young kid going to shows ogling over these cars and I hope sharing it with others at shows helps spark something in our youth and others for many years. As much as I look forward to being in this car’s next chapter of its life by being the curator of the stories and history, I look even more forward to it being a small part in the next chapters of my family’s life.
So, I definitely get what Chad was feeling in this video and the emotions at play with a car that’s an extension of yourself. Thanks for sharing the story, Chad and Ed.

What a great story and what a beautiful car. There is something about a vehicle that elicits emotion. Something meaningful and yet, something that cannot be described. Today, I fired up one of my armored military vehicles; one that had been sitting dormant for over 15 years. So much water under the bridge since it last ran. Everything else always seemed to be getting in the way all those years. I was thrilled to hear it finally running again. There is much yet to be done with it but I feel like I have cleared the biggest hurdle. Looking forward to doing much, much more with it.

    That was a great story!
All I could think was that there's no way on earth that 'a car exactly like the one my Dad had' is anywhere near as good as "my Dad's old car'.
I would have no hesitation about selling the 'identical' car in order to have the 'actual' car.
And I agree with all the posts about how awesome Mitch was in the process, he almost certainly left money on the table in order to reunite that car with the family that loved it more than anyone else...

This one hit me hard. I lost my father at 9 years old to a devastating disease. He owned a new 1972 Mustang Mach 1 Yellow with the black stripe well before I was born and sold it shortly after. Throughout the years I’ve always wondered where the car is and for my 16th birthday my cousin found the only picture of dads car and blew it up to a poster size for me and I’ve always wondered if I could ever find it. I’m 38 now and just so happen to own a 2002 GT Mustang that I love dearly and daily drive. Just the thought of being able to see the car, let alone sit in it and drive it gets me pathetically emotional. If I found the car right now I wouldn’t have the funds to purchase it but man I dream about it all the time.

Congratulations Chad!!! Love the car. I actually got to participate in restoring the exterior of 2 1969 Shelby GT500s that were sequential VINs (Before anyone asks, no, I do not remember the VINs for either of them). I was managing a bodyshop in Indianapolis IN so I got to block out the primer on both of them, then I got to paint 1 of the 2 Shelby's, TWICE. Funny story with that, the owner of both cars gave us the WRONG color code for the 1st one, that I sprayed, and we had to strip it down to primer and respray it. I mean we have juuuust finished cutting & buffing and reassembling the exterior and told the owner it was ready for pick-up to go to the upholstery shop. He shows up, looks at the car and drops his head and says "you guys are gonna hate me, I sent you the wrong paint code. It was on the darker end of the color code for this one". Then we all dropped our heads. 🤣 He made it right though. Since it was his fault, he paid us to undo, then redo every bit of paint work on that car. I don't know what ever happened to them or where they ended up but I wish just 1 of them ended up in my garage. I still dream of owning a 1969 GT500 but unfortunately it will never be in my price range.

My five speed manual 2006 scion xb, TRD lowering springs, trd short throw shifters, AEM dry cool air intake. I loved that xbox. That Lil wagon made me laugh. I miss it. Owner don't want to sell, he's probably ruined it
