The more I watch you, the more I appreciate your content. You've confessed to be tired at some point during the rolling. You're so humble. I havent met a lot of instructors who make this confession. Wow.
Always staying real 🙂. There's too much BS out there both online in general and BJJ. I appreciate it 🙏
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu thank you I really appreciate the honesty
Pls Jordan post more often, this is the best content on CZcams
I wish I could but they take so much time to make haha. Thank you 🙂
He posts so often tho 😂
That quote from the meditations fits perfectly with what we do in jiu jitsu. That sort of thing happens occasionally and this is a great response.
Thanks man inthiuhhttit was a nice touch and fitting. I had a coach before who would try to kill you if accidently hit him. I should have gave him a copy of the book haha
I loved that side control arm bar entry where you plant your foot on the bicep before rotating around, especially how your lead foot angles up at a 45 across the body. These Kieren videos are so technical! I'm learning a lot.
@5:35 “Kieren back steps for some reason” that had me dying 😂😂😂
Especially because I did the exact same thing with my coach yesterday. To be fair he knows I like to go for knee bars and in my head I was faking it to “catch him off guard” 😂
Love your content 🤙🏼👏🏼
Wow. I love the multiple replays while explaining the concepts of landing a move. Best of CZcams. Thanks Jordan!
Thanks man! I worried it was overkill with this one but am glad all the details were appreciated 🙏
Always fun watching your videos. The way you break down each move explaining the cons and pros definitely helps understanding.
I greatly appreciate these narrated rolls. They are very instructive. And yes, as someone who originally comes from striking arts (and still trains them regularly), I can say that even in light sparring, accidents obviously happen there all the time too. No biggie.
Great teaching!
Mate these are great! I love you breakdowns of your rolls. Thanks to you I am hitting balloon sweeps and improving my game. Keep them going, you, your channel and podcast are all amazing. Thank you
That's awesome man! I love balloon sweeps. Glad to help you with them 🙏👊
First time checking this channel out and instantly subscribed. Simple concept for an video and it is organized so well!
Glad the sponsors provide different size equipment so you can decide how deep you like it.
Loved this video, and always enjoy your breakdowns. Thanks for sharing your roll with Kieren in the gi as well. He’s a beast!
Thanks Chris! 😁
Dustin Denes taught a great way to stop the forward roll that really makes the finish easy. Once in the omuplata position the hand closest to the body and reach for a close knee grip. Your other hand goes across your own body and grab his belt. Push up on the knee as you lay flat trying toward him like you’re going to your belly. Scooting your hips into them. This forces them to lay flat belly down once that happens you climb back up and finish as you normally would. It’s a neat trick I’ve used for 7 years now. Hope it’s something that you can use.
Great video as always.
You said last year that you were looking to take your videos to the next level.
Mission accomplished!
The theory behind the moves is super helpful and gives a great guide that I can remember even when I am getting smashed.
10:48 Great mat awareness from the other pair! Another great video. Love watching these. Thanks!!
I definitely like rolling hard, but as a bigger guy I've been working really hard on rolling light and controlled for the last several months.
Thanks man! I love rolling with the big boys. Hopefully we can roll one day, hard 🙂
I just wanted to say thank you! I just got back into combat sports after 10 year hiatus. First time BJJ focus and your videos have been very helpful! I’ll use the Thanks button to show my support.
I appreciate it so much. Thanks!
You have the most helpful rolling commentary I’ve ever seen on CZcams.
I appreciate that so much, thank you!
Love your videos Jordan.
God bless your family, gym and the people around you.
Thank you 🙏
Love the little details on commentary. Gold
The Marcus Aurelius quote was a great addition.
Awesome video, love all your detail
I think there’s a time for both, they both help me improve, light rolls help me practise techniques I am not completely confident with and help me learn to expand my game and hard rolls reveal what I am good at and what genuinely works when someone’s battling me with all their strength and full intensity. Too light means I don’t know what’s effective and what’s a waste of time, but a nice middle ground the majority of the time helps me avoid injuries and retain energy so I can train every day rather than burn out
100%
Well put!!
Another awesome video and commentary!
Thanks so much for the rolls Jordan! 💪 Looking forward to the next one
Can't wait to smash you less and less until I can't throughout the years 👊
I'm an intensity adjuster. Rolling hard is fun and comes with it's benefits but there is a time and a place for it. I'd rather have a few sessions too light then outwork my recovery capacity, or regularly loose control so I hit my training partners or something. Also if I "win" in training through intensity or with physical attributes like cardio or strength I don't really think I learn a lot, but obviously it's good for competition preparation and you can be practicing applying your technique closer to your max and learn at the same time but it's harder.
Then again I don't compete a lot so maybe that changes the perspective one would have.
Great content keep it up! 👊
Thank you Jordan! Love the videos as always :)
Thanks man 👊
Thanks for the Marcus Aurelius quote - who knew the Stoics were so into grappling?
Super thanks man!! Your videos have helped me a ton as I have now started rolling at a gym!! Thanks man
I'm so glad to hear that! Thanks man 👊
Solid breakdown. 🤙🏽🙌🏾
Super thanks. Great video
Awesome roll and instruction - thank you! 👊
🙏👊
This is a really great detailed instruction, thanks from Holland
Thank you so much!
I'm a heavier guy in my mid 40's and have had various injuries so I prefer not to roll at max. I find this allows me to roll with just about anyone in the room as people aren't concerned with getting hurt with me yet I try to match my intensity to theirs and not smash when there's a big size difference. I just work on different things with smaller partners.
Love that Marcus Aurelius quote.
Thanks Jordan! 👊
Thank you! I learn so much from you through your videos.
Glad to help 🙂🙏
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu is more than help. Your work is professional. I love in a remote place near the French Alps. I have no teacher. But I study Your videos. Their permit me to improve without teacher. Then I can share on Thrusdays with my 5 students. We're improving. Thank you.
So many good Details that i ve learned in 1 video
The Marcus Aurelius quote on screen was amazing! ❤
Thank you! I was hoping people would appreciate it 🙏👊
When I was active, I preferred lighter rolls because who wants to spend their time washing blood out of a gi? 😉😆 This roll was awesome, thanks for posting it. Kieran is a beast! 💪👏👍👊
Haha I live for the bloody gis! Definitely great to roll light for many. I'll probably have to slow down as I get older 😭
You wash it the same as you wash your gi at any other time dude. Maybe rub an oxy clean bar on it for like 30 seconds
All right!! Love the gi rolls 👊🤙
Super thanks!! (As requested😉). As A 42 year old who finds himself picking up more injuries now and still enjoying other sports I prefer to roll light and technical. I'll actually avoid those hard rolls with the young guys now which I dont like doing but need to for longevity...🤷♂️😥.
Good roll!! Been following thr podcast and was excited to final see the roll. I now understand why Jordan s willing to risk his house, gym and everything 😆
Hahaha see I'm not cocky I'm just confident 😅
Super thanks, Dude!
Super thenks bro 🎉
👊
I just read that part of The Meditations earlier today. Book 6, so i thought that was a funny coincidence. Especially since you posted this two years ago and im just now watching it. I probably didnt take in that quote 6.20 as much as i could have but reading it here on screen made me revisit that part of the book and appreciate it more. So thanks. Also, your jiu-jitsu is an absolute gem to watch.
Ohhhh I see that it was actually two weeks ago, not two years.. still a cool coincidence!
Haha yepp man, it's a great book! I enjoyed it thoroughly 🙏
That butterfly was 🙌🏼
Jordan, you are too funny! This was an awesome video, thanks!
Haha thanks man!
Great vid thx. That knee to Nicki! Ouch 😂
this is pure gold ❤
🙏
As a blue belt, I'm pumped to see this. Thanks for all the content!
👊
Love the videos! Can you do a video on side control offense? Having a hard time especially when opponents have their elbows tucked
That was nice of kieren to punch him self in the face at 3:31 to even it up
I named my kid after Marcus Aurelius. I subscribed because of the quote. Stayed because the content is amazing 🤙
Super thanks
😂😂😂I enjoy that there’s a section called Kieren Hitting people section
😅
“Shadow realm” 😅😅😂 gonna steal this phrase 😅 thanks for the beautiful content professor! Keep ‘em coming!
P.S. the Marcus Aurelius quote was pure gold 🤌🏽🤌🏽
Haha please do! And thank you, I will. 🙏 The quote was a nice touch 🙂
Dude, as a white belt, I love your videos. Thanks for the awesome content.
Thanks man 👊
I love rolling hard! Especially with Alex 😂😅
Great content!
I’m a 150 pound purple belt. I love rolling hard but mostly with guys around my weight. I train 4-5 times a week and consistently rolling hard with bigger guys can take a toll 😅
Great content as always. 🤌
Tell us more about this Theory Course coming out. Im very interested in that.
It's all about inside position, frames, etc. "The in-between" of jiujitsu. Most instructionals show techniques but don't show the before or after, which is 99% of jiujitsu 🙂
SUPER THANKS 👊
👊
I love to roll light against lower belts that are going hard at me and i can still kind of control them relatively well. Hard rounds vs my professor are pribably my favorite though because theyre usually very technical rounds while still being physically grueling since we are the same weight.
Nice. Marcus Aurelius was an accomplished wrestler himself! Think he has a few other grappling inspired quotes.
You guys are lethal.
Nowadays, if someone wants to start some trouble, I talk my way out of it and look for cauliflower ears, nose, and scar tissue by the eyes...
I have mastered the "fall lazily to my back" move
muy buen video increible roll
🙏
"Kieren shakes off his near entry into the shadow realm..." lolol.
It really depends on my current training objectives. If I just learned a new move or sequence I like to roll lighter so that I can go for things I’m not good at yet until I get better at them.
When I’m getting ready to compete or even just feeling competitive that day I’ll not worry too much about adding many new tools and worry more about rolling hard and managing my energy/breathing during it.
So Skill acquisition vs Cardio acquisition lol
Hey Jordan i have a question in our gym there is a competitive brown belt, he is considerably taller then me, around 10 cm i just cant pass jis open/laying knee shield do you have any techniques or video on how to pass someone taller and stronger then you
that third nipple really caught me off guard
Extremely dense, but extremely educational for even a two stripe while belt like myself.
I prefer to start out at a moderate or even light pace and increase the intensity as the round, or opponent demands.
Got out that arm bar though? There’s a fine line between a push and a kick. Eye of the beholder type stuff.
How is that armbar from crusafix applied?
4:46 There is no life in the void. Only death.🤣
Oh, I made that buggy choke detail video if you wanna check it out. Thanks for the great videos, as usual!
I'm 49 and a white belt no stripe, so definitely rolling light!! Sometimes I'll end up with a young white belt and they seemed to mostly want to go hard/fast, but I ain't looking to get injured! Just here to learn...
Ya rolling with white belts can be most dangerous. Need to be careful 🙂
Ya, that face-pop happens sometimes on the armbar escape.
The other week a middle-age guy punched me in the groin, then kneed me in the head...
... he tapped shortly thereafter. :)
Hi Jordan,
Is the Trinidad and Tobago retreat sold out now?
If so please let us know when your next resort is happening please.
I can’t believe I missed the opportunity 😢
It is but we'll be going again next year. There's also a Vietnam camp coming up in October with Jeff Chan 🙂
Shadow realm lol. I'm using that😂
in general, I like to roll lighter in my "older" days, just so I can keep up in cardio endurance. although I hold a purple belt, but I have taken a 9 year break because of family and recently just gotten back. so, I really consider myself a white belt now and relearning many skills. I would like to roll hard once my skill is up to par to test if my skill would stand up against a "real" situation.
lol the passive-aggression in this commentary is off the charts
Dry humor
Haha yes just dry sarcastic humour. Kierens my guy.
lol to the marcus aurelius quote due to kiren hitting 40% of your family ... too good
hey Jordan, big fan of your videos, I just had a quick technical question for you: What is the best option to do if you have an underhook in the bottom of half guard but your opponent has a deep cross-face on top and you cant insert your butterfly hook?
I would probably try to use my underhook to pull them forward to push them to the side to try and force them to post a hand or both out onto the mat
The “40% of my family, have to keep him away from my kids” comment had me balling 😂❤
Prefer rolling technically - harnessing the fight with technique as my coach would say. Brilliant content. Thank you.
Ya exactly, that should be the goal. Thank you! 🙏
Really surprised youtube waited a day to recommend this 😁 Do ibjjf tournaments generally care at all about the red details on Kieren's gi or they're normally a pass? Great roll and abs.
I think he'd be okay with his Gi but I don't know the ibjjf rules well enough to confirm thouhh. Nice abs for sure but what about my third nipple??
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu I'm also not sure of the rules enough to know how many nipples qualify or disqualify.
@@tylerfrost7831 😅
sweet!
I thought the Marcus Aurelius quote at 7:25 was a joke, but no it's actually 100% legit.
Funny to imagine the Roman Emperor dealing with gym bros doing ultra-sets or getting hurt by a spazzy "white belt"
haha i thought so too when I first saw it!
As a white belt I don't like rolling hard, since I feel it's futile to attempt techniques with full force when I have trouble pulling them off with easier pace.
Also, getting injured and taking time off because of it doesn't really benefit anyone. Once I hit blue belt I might enjoy hard rolls, then I know more what I'm doing.
I’m a light roller. I’m the breadwinner for my family so getting injured is a big no go
Smart man 👊
Kieren looks like a solid blue belt. Good roll for both of you. Cheers from Austin, bois.
“What’s with these blue belts sweeping themselves and denying me cool sweep points?”
Ahhh, crap, you mean I’m not gonna quit making stupid errors when I put on blue? 😂
SUPER THANKS
Ide like to show ur videos to my coach but I don't want to insult him lololololol
Nice fight
I love rolling intense more
it is better to improve the cardio and fitness
Nothing like a good beating 😂 Jordan when’s the last time you’ve had one?
It's been a while lol
Im a white belt, and middle school wrestler, and I always find myself going too hard on some of the older guys. How can I be more gentle without giving up my survivability?
