- How did I do on one of the most technical race tracks in the country as a rider with only 1 year experience on a BMW Touring Motorcycle?

Kudos to Melissa for getting out there and improving her skills as a rider by experiencing and practicing in different riding conditions.
Keep these videos coming- it’s so refreshing to see someone improve their riding skills without unnecessary criticism and judgement.
Thank you so much! I'm definitely trying everyday to improve my skills. I appreciate you watching, commenting and supporting :)
Hi Melissa! Great job! Im glad you enjoyed yourself. Mostly sport bikes huh? At least you had fun!
Thanks for watching!!! I appreciate your support :)
very cool!!! i’m sure some of the experiences you had out there will help you on the road.
The next time I rode on the street after this...I was COMPLETELY changed. I felt way more confident on curves and I wasn't afraid to lean the bike anymore. Thanks for always watching and commenting :)
One of the main reasons stopping me doing a track day is the thought of waiting around most of the time. Well done from me in the UK 🇬🇧👏🏻
Thanks so much. It was a lot of waiting but you do get pretty tired. As you know, it ends up being a lot of work physically to be moving the bike on curve after curve. You will probably welcome the breaks in between :) (I may have taken a nap mid day 🤣🤣🤣) I say do it! :)
@@melissasmotorcycleadventures I'm all for naps....🤣
Well done, Melissa. Good on you for taking up this challenge. Bit of a bummer about the riding time at first, at least you hung in there. That's that way. Don't listen to the skeptics. Ride well. Cheers
Thank you for always being so supportive of me! :)
Good for you! I haven’t been to that track since the mid 80s to watch the late Randy Renfrow race. The last 8 miles or so going to the track coming from northern Va on that 2 lane hilly country road was a blast😂. I don’t know what it’s like now but back then it wasn’t hard to catch air even riding 2 up on that roller coaster road.
Oh yeah!! The roads there are a blast!
Twist of the wrist ,by Keith Code will be a great help to you....kind of a boring read, however everything you learn applies directly to the street....its great info !!!
I've tried to start that book. It's dry lol
Keep going , never stop riding. Your stacking experience .😊 your only gana get better.
Thank you so much!!!
very good post I have the RT as well. very responsive
Thank you!!
I always tell anyone who just started riding to go do a track day and take a course there. Bets thing you can do to improve your riding.
Thank you! I agree as well. Even though it was just one day, I am totally changed now on the street. It REALLY gave me confidence on curves
Enjoy that bike. I ride a 2014 r1200rt and it is not easy to move your body on that big seat. @@melissasmotorcycleadventures
For your next track day go meet one of the coaches, and ask to to do a session with you (you follow them, they provide direction via hand signals and follow you. You get a nice debrief after the session. I used to ride with ME and generally got 7 laps in a session (7 sessions for the day).
Ride your own pace and improvement will come. Find a used Ninja 250 to track. Plenty out there and easy to fix up for track only on the cheap.
Thank you for the suggestions! As I looked back at the footage I saw all the things I'd like to correct and my first thought was exactly what you said...get a coach :) thanks for watching and commenting!
WHAT?!? NO WHEELIES?!?!?! Put up put it up!
All in due time my friend!
I’ve never been to a track day or even thought about one, but can I bring my Harley?
It depends on the company running the track day but a lot let you to learn how to use your bike better
Did you learn something?
Did you enjoy yourself eventually?
Then that's all positives.
@alanbrown5593 yup! I learned a lot and would LOVE to go back again! :)
@@melissasmotorcycleadventures good. Too many treat a track day as a wannabe race day. It is about learning where the braking/cornering limits of you and your bike are in a safe/controlled environment.
Why?...
It was a great way for me to learn how my bike handles and feel more comfortable with curves and leaning in a safe environment without worries of on coming traffic.
Why not?
FFS 🤦
You're doing 40km's
Yup. I learned a ton and I'm a much better rider for it today. It was a great learning experience!
I'll be the voice of reason here, you have no reason to be on a track. You strike me as a timid rider that needs to be on a little 400cc bike. You're in the novice group and riding at half speed around the track. I support every rider trying to further their skills, but you need to set some realistic goals and boundaries. Find yourself a track day org that has BEGINNER ONLY days, you treated this track day like a riding school, which is not fair to everyone else in your group or the others. Pony up for real training and don't do it on the cheap, in the middle of a track day.
Of note I did shell out a lot of money for that day. Novice did mean beginners and Roger Lyle who owns Motorcycle Xcitement encourages people to ride their own bike to learn their bike. That's why I picked this track group on this day. Thanks for watching and commenting though!
@monkeyCmonkeyDoo - 😂 My guy you’re the voice of confusion not the voice of reason.
Imagine having the audacity to tell someone you “support every rider trying to further their skills” while also telling someone they “…have no reason to be on the track”.
Or that as a beginner she has no place in the novice group.
And thinking a track day is a race day…
😂😂😂
@monkeyCmonkeyDoo to quote greatest motorcycle movie of all times "it's not the critic who counts "
