    Did you know?
South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia both have the same national anthem.
Same rhythm, but in different languages.
Nkosi sikelel' Afrika - South Africa(Xhosa: original one, then they re-wrote it into more than 5 languages).
Stand and Sing of Zambia, Proud and Free - Zambia(English).
    Mungu ibariki Afrika - Tanzania(Swahili).
It was written by a South African man, Enoch Sontonga in 1897.
And was first adopted by Tanzania in 1961, later by Zambia in 1964 (Re-wrote it in 1973), Zimbabwe in 1980, Namibia in 1990, and then South Africa in 1997.
As of today, only Tanzania, Zambia, and South Africa still uses it as their national anthem.
While Zimbabwe and Namibia changed their national anthems a few years later.
The main purpose behind using that song as a national anthem, was to unite Africa.

When I first started watching rugby one of my first things to do was to learn the words of our Anthem. And now I sing them loud and proud. I have also been learn isiXhosa with some of my colleagues from work and have understood some of the lines just by what I know.
Like imithandazo yethu is our prayers, Nkosi is God, phakama means to rise and what I do know also is the first verse is a combination of isiXhosa and isiZulu. The second is a combination of Sesotho and Pedi. And the two verses are almost the same in terms of what is being said.
The third verse is Afrikaans which talks about our land with the seas, mountains and heights.
Then the 4th verse builds on from all of those to bring the singer back to our land and all who live in it. The more I learn, the more I sing this anthem with passion.

    The lyrics roughly translate to:
    Lord bless Africa
May her glory be lifted high,
    Hear our petitions
    Lord bless us, your children.
Lord we ask You to protect our nation,
    Intervene and end all conflicts,
    Protect us, protect our nation,
    Protect South Africa, South Africa.
Out of the blue of our heavens,
From the depths of our seas,
    Over everlasting mountains,
    Where the echoing crags resound,

    I'm a proud South African 😊😊💖
South Africa is a very diverse country with 11 official languages, so South Africa's national anthem features five of the most widely spoken of the country’s eleven official languages - Xhosa, Zulu, Sesotho, Afrikaans and English.
here is the English translation of the whole National Anthem
    Nkosi sikelel'iAfrika (Lord Bless Africa)
Maluphakanyisw' uphondo lwayo (May her glory be lifted high)
Yizwa imithandazo yethu (Hear our petitions)
Nkosi sikelela, thina lusapho lwayo (Lord bless us. Us your children)
Morena boloko setjhaba sa heso (Lord we ask You to protect our
    nation)
O fedise dintwa le matshwenyeho (Intervene and end all conflicts)
O se boloke, O se boloke (Protect us, protect us)
Setjhaba sa heso (Protect our nation)
Setjhaba sa South Afrika (Protect South Africa)
    South Afrika (South Africa!)
Uit die blou van once hemel (Ringing out from our blue heavens,)
Uit die diepte van ons see (from our deep seas breaking round,)
Oor ons ewige gebergtes (Over everlasting mountains)
Waar die kranse antwoord gee (where the echoing crags resound.)
Sounds the call to come together
    and united we shall stand.
Let us live and strive for freedom
    in South Africa our land.

For black people, it's the hard part. But the Xhosa/Zulu and the Tswana part are quite hard for white people to sing.

It's most of the official languages. Much love for my fellow South Africans, whether black or white. I don't care about race. We all bleed the same
