I’m from Botswana and the first time I watched this movie my uncle found it fit to tell me that these uprisings are why my grandmother fled with her kids from Soweto. She had followed my grandfather to the mines. I was and continue to be so traumatized whenever I watch it. It’s always so interesting to me how apartheid and colonialism in general did a number on people all across Southern Africa. Talking to the elders about how it was back then is always heartbreaking. The trauma is seared into our DNA.
