Well, about two plus years and counting. Still using both that I have. One in the shack and the one in my mobile. Both work just fine. Most of my repeaters are within 20 miles or so. You end up finding repeaters you hang out on. And stick with them. It’s a budget friendly radio. And that’s why I liked them. I may look into a TYT 9800 in the future. But for now I’m good. I do own 2 icom ic-27h 2 meter mono bands and the FT 991a has vhf/uhf. And a few HT’s. But I use the anytone 778uv probably the most for simplex and repeater work.
Yes, I happen to prefer frequencies, so that’s what I chose on my radio but yes, you put in the name and the frequency. Preference is the title that’s up to you
I bought this on prime day for $99.. I wanted to use it in the car but the display gets washed out in the sun, that along with the display being so small makes it difficult to use mobile.
I've got the exact one in my work truck, it's a awesome little radio, has great audio reports, it's impressive for what it is

I see it shows the freq, can it be programmed to show names like “ north repeater”?

For 99 bucks who can be without... maybe try a lower location in the mobile? I know its hard to mount a radio in newer vehicles
