Platforming Community Talent

SAA-uk's Platforming Community Talent evening was a vibrant celebration of the British South Asian community's diverse talents.
The event began with an instrumental keyboard performance by Zac, setting a melodious tone. The lineup also included Manish Kumar captivating the audience with two songs. Ladies from the Women's Zone followed, sharing poignant poems. Adam from the West Yorkshire Archive Project presented an insightful overview of their work, highlighting the community's historical and cultural richness. Ghazanfer Iqbal Khan then performed two melodious songs, after which Kauser Mukhtar delivered a solo performance. The highlight performer was 102-year-old Mir Bostan from Beeston. The evening concluded with a dynamic Qawwali performance by the Men's Group from the Hamara Centre, featuring harmonium and tabla support, engaging and delighting the audience.
This celebration not only highlighted individual talents but also emphasized the collective spirit and cultural heritage of the British South Asian community.
The evening was a memorable showcase of music, poetry, and cultural expression.
South Asian Arts-uk (SAA-uk) is a registered charity that was set up in 1997 by Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE to preserve the art of South Asian classical music and dance. The organisation was designed to pass down its love of the South Asian arts to the next generations through performances, community events and a complex education programme.
