True Intimacy with God | What It Means "to Know" the LORD | THEOLOGY OF THE BODY

  • “This is eternal life, to know the one true God.”
    To our ears, knowledge of God and intimacy with God do not seem so interrelated. We tend to think of knowledge in an intellectual sense, as if referring to something we’ve studied empirically and come to understand. But this is not the biblical meaning of the word knowledge. In Genesis it says, “Adam knew his wife Eve and she conceived,” and this word, “to know” is the same word the Bible uses to describe knowledge of God! This suggests a much more intimate knowledge - a great intimacy with God.
    While we must be very clear that God is not sexual, it is imperative to our Christian faith that we recoginze our creation as male and female in His image and likeness. This means that our sexuality is a revelation of the mystery of God! One which God intimately entered into at the moment of Mary’s “fiat.” In a profound, transcendent way, Mary (the new Eve) knew God and she conceived a son.
    As the intimacy of a husband and bride brings about new life, intimacy with God (knowing God) is truly life giving. And there is no greater intimacy with God than the reception of the holy Eucharist: “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.”

    Fr Brett Brannen ( To Save a Thousand of Souls )
    The purpose of celibacy is to learn to love the way the saints love in heaven. Celibacy is about intimacy with Jesus, the only one who can fill the void that is within us all. This is why prayer is so essential in the life of a priest. Intimacy with Jesus leads to love and intimacy with his people. Therefore priests who pray faithfully generally are not lonely. But when a priest is not praying and when he isolates himself from people, this can lead to loneliness and the desire to self-medicate to take the edge off. Yes, there will always be some nights in the life of a priest when he lies in bed and aches for a companion. God made us this way. He made us for union. But the priest raises his mind and heart to Jesus in these times and says, “Yes Lord, I ache tonight for a female companion. But my life is an eschatological sign to the world that you alone can fill the human heart.And I am glad to ache for you, to bring that truth to the world. I am glad you called me to be a priest! Now I am going to sleep.”

    Your heart is the throne of God. The issues of life flow from the heart. Guard it. That’s why Jesus said you must eat my flesh and drink my blood and then said if you love me you’ll obey me…
    He said the same thing in both places but tests to see if He’s really Lord in your heart and say “Lord, what do you mean?” or if you’ll be offended and say He’s evil.
    Then He says to love God and men and says “Go into all the world and preach the gospel…” and never says if they hate you then you can hate them back. He says Love them even when they kill you and share what you have with your brothers and sisters and don’t look down on them.

    Theology of the body is what i have been missing all this time! I always saw this word “theology of the body” and thought “oh this is gonna be a lesson about how lust is bad, sex is bad” but no! It was an answer to my prayer after receiving the Eucharist of “Why is it you give your body as food my lord”

    This very profound. I have recently rediscovered my Faith and have always received the Holy Eucharist on my tongue, never even touching my teeth, but never kneeling. Now since experiencing the Latin Mass I don't ever want to receive any other way. The Father feeds his sheep and I am not worthy to touch my Saviour. I would gladly be possessed by the Father. I've heard a podcast with a exorcist where he quoted a demon saying that they love that the dogs(us) recieve the Nazarene (Jesus) in our filthy paws. I would never aspire of touching my Father, His Son or the Holy Spirit with my filthy paws!

    • @calebklingerman7902
      @calebklingerman7902 Před 6 měsíci

      Are they still filthy, though, after Jesus himself has washed you clean in baptism? Isn’t the whole reason He humbled himself to become human and face death so that you could be made right and brought into a close relationship with Him?
      He clearly has no issue coming into contact with us, even our filth. He was born in a stable during a time of increased traffic. It would have been disgusting. The woman with the issue of blood was ceremonially unclean, but Jesus commended her for touching him. The same goes for the prostitute who washed his feet. Not to mention that He touched lepers and the sick himself. He even surrendered himself to be stripped, tortured, and killed by pagan Roman hands.
      Remember, your sinful hands nailed Him to the cross and held Him there, and so they are stained with his broken body and spilled blood. But that blood is the very thing that washes you clean from sin; indeed it is the only thing that can. So it is only by taking his body and blood into your own hands that they can be made clean. We are guilty of breaking his body, unless we eat it too. We are guilty of spilling his blood, unless we bathe in it. There’s nothing wrong with receiving the body and blood directly in the mouth if you wish, but don’t condemn your brothers and sisters for wanting to reach out and touch Jesus like the woman with the issue of blood, and don’t tell them they are filthy when Jesus has washed them with water and Word so they may be holy and blameless (Ephesians 5:26-27).
      As to your quote about the exorcist, when faced with lies and evil, Jesus quoted Scripture, not demons. We should take our teaching from Him and his Word, not from a demon. The demon may have said that in the hopes that it would continue to stir up division among the church over this issue.

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:00 📖 Knowing God is compared to the intimate knowledge between individuals, not just intellectual understanding.
    01:10 👶 Infants know intimacy through being fed; it's a yearning for someone to satisfy their hunger.
    02:16 💏 Intimate knowledge is like passionate kissing, desiring to taste and know deeply.
    03:26 🍷 The Eucharist represents real knowledge of God, and your tongue is the throne of the living God.
    05:16 🩸 Human sexuality provides an analogy for our intimate connection with God.
    07:03 🙏 Possession by the divine beloved is the goal, not diabolic possession.
    08:12 🕊️ Purifications lead to the ineffable joy of nuptial union with God. Human sexuality becomes a gateway to intimacy with God.

    Thank you so much Christopher ! Amazing. This is a random question. I stopped doing yoga when I became a Christian, but there is something prayerful about some forms of yoga and I want to pray to Jesus in body movement. Is there anything that you know that exists that might satisfy this desire? Does Theology of the body teach about this topic? Thanks for considering my questions , united in God.

    • @TheologyoftheBodyInstitute
      @TheologyoftheBodyInstitute  Před 3 lety +4

      This is a difficult and important question. While we must be wary of pagan religious practices, bodily experience is fundamental to our intimacy with God - no where more so than in the Eucharist! It is the essence of sacramentality. Can the disciplines of stretching, moving, and breathing found in yoga be incorporated into meditative prayer? I believe so. They can also be incorporated into new age pagan worship. So ultimately, I would urge you to be very discerning in whom you follow if you choose to practice yoga.

      @@TheologyoftheBodyInstitute thanks so much for your reply! There are some catholics who say you can not seperate the hindi religion and Gods from the movements of yoga. It is a fervently debated topic. I feel both camps say something true. Yes, no invisible force owns body movement, the name of Jesus is powerful over all things...and yes yoga is part of pagan religion and christian yoga might be syncretism... so how can i fulfill my desire to worship Jesus in eucharistic meditation and body movement...I will ask Jesus to guide me. I would be realy greatful if you can point me to anywhere you or theology of the body teaches about this subject. United in prayer 🙂

Married couples kiss multiple times a day sometimes, if their relationship is healthy. The soul who is not married has to wait just to have ONE spiritual kiss from God in the Eucharist per week.
