  • For the better part of nearly forty years, Sting was one of pro wrestling's pre-eminent protagonists,
    enjoying prominent runs in WCW, TNA, and AEW, as well as a short spell in WWE while captivating the minds of several generations of fans with his enigmatic presence. In that storied, championship-filled career, Sting held World titles on 14 occasions, making him one of the industry's most decorated headliners. As such, his collection of top championships had to begin somewhere, and that somewhere was Baltimore, MD on Saturday, July 7, 1990...

    It's interesting that both Sting and Warrior both beat their respective company's "face of the 80s" to win their first world titles. Warrior may have done it first, but Sting ended up with a more prestigious career.

    Sting beating Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at The Great American Bash 1990 is still one of my favourite moments in over 30 years watching wrestling.

  • @deathsnitemaresinfullust2269

    Surfer Sting is my all time favorite outside of Stone Cold.
    I started out liking Hogan but quickly switched to Sting when he became the one I was actually able to see wrestle compared to Hulk.
    These days I don't know if Hogan makes my top 10 but I've always known that Surfer Sting is top 2.
    😄👍

    I seen the first clash of the champions. It was super dope to see a match of that caliber on regular tv.

  • @deathsnitemaresinfullust2269

    I know it's not too indepth of a topic but I would have loved at least 30 minutes for this one.
    All the Cultaholic lads do great narrative work.

      If you want to be truthful about it, Flair has more than 16 world title reigns. I think it's more like 19 or 20, but WWE decided 15 years ago that they didn't recognize some of those reigns. I'm happy that HHH is such a huge Flair fan though, at least he'll be smart enough to not have anyone break Flair's record any time soon.

      @ceejluige4816 Před 19 dny +1

      @@lastdayonearthmysteryman4849 I know Flair is a punchline today (a lot of which he brings on himself) but in the late 70's- early 2000's, he was a great talent/money making/ratings drawing legend. You could say he single handedly kept Crocket afloat for a few years before selling to Turner. I don't think he deserves to be dethroned of that record. I know both Cena and Orton have been positioned to do that, but I really believe HHH will wait til Flair's gone.

    That group of babyfaces surrounding the ring were known, at the time, as The dudes with Attitudes. Rick Steiner, Scott Steiner, JYD, and Paul Orndorff with Sting has their fearless leader. That was fun booking back when factions still meant something because they weren't done to death yet.

    About the Four Horsemen being a babyface faction. Has Arn Anderson ever had the face of a baby? I can only imagine him coming out of the womb with a full beard, glasses, and asking for a beer. But on the other hand. That kind of means he has always had the face of a baby.
