    My wife and I recently played through all three cases in Perspectives and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially case #3. It scratches a similar itch as Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, but much more contained. It could easily be played as a solo game too.
    The "mechanic" of the game -- not being able to show your clues to the other player(s) -- sounds fun but it was mostly frustrating for us. It seemed like an unnecessary obstacle that made no sense with the theme of the game -- cops solving murder cases.
    After the first case, we simply laid the clues out on the table and like a bunch of detectives on The Wire would do, openly discussing our theories, trying to connect to the clues. It was a blast.
    A game like Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective can be full of time-consuming clues that are red herrings, but in Perspectives, there is something in every clue to help solve the case, so players don't end up wasting half their investigation of something that was a dead end.
    At the end when everything is revealed, it was fun to re-examine the clues and talk about what we missed. By the time we got to the 3rd case, which was kind of epic, we were top notched detectives. We still missed one or two clues, but it didn't matter. The points at the end of the game, just like the mechanic of the game, didn't matter either. The fun comes from openly collaborating over the clues.
    I would think (and hope) that future expansions wouldn't be expensive because all that's needed are three sets of 12 cards per case. No large box required.
    In any case, it's excellent game with a clever and concise system for solving mysteries. I just wish it came with more cases.

    Little update here -- we played case 2 in the box and did not have nearly as good a time with it as case 1. The extra questions felt a little arbitrary and silly, and the teamwork and clues required to solve some of the questions seemed less compelling.. Your mileage may vary.

    I hadn't heard of this game before this review, but it looks intriguing. Using visual clues instead of text sounds challenging, but in a good way!

    Would love to hear what others think of this game. I'm a sucker for new "experiences" and this really fits that bill.

    I was asked whether Perspectives would play well remotely over zoom or similar. I think it would work perfectly and be a blast over zoom or a telephone, as long as each player had their own copy of the game (though a bit expensive for this purpose). Easy to divide up the cards remotely -- does not require any shuffling or randomness.
    Another person pointed out that the game Witness deserves a shout-out as being based on a similar idea. Indeed it does. Witness was a bit chaotic and memory-dependent for my tastes but it is also very cool. (Witness is also 4-player only).

    If you could get The Night Hunter or Perspectives, but not both, which one do you recommend for a family of 4 and why?

    • @COOPFORTWO
      @COOPFORTWO  Před 7 měsíci

      Night of the Hunter is currently on sale on Amazon for $22; at that price I'd grab it instantly.
      That said, I'm not sure either of these come to mind when thinking about a game for a mixed family of 4 (if you have young or old). Perspectives requires some serious focus. But it actually could be fun if your family can get into it. A cold case game with kids might be asking for too much from them.

      @@COOPFORTWOThanks for the reply! Our kids are 17 and 19, so they are not little anymore! Another game I was considering is The Animals of Baker Street but it sounds like that one is for younger kids and it sounds similar to Chronicles of Crime (without the app), which we hated. (The Animals... is also on sale at Amazon now). Generally, we prefer games on the lighter side ("gateway" types) but we have enjoy Awkward Guests, and have played some Exit games (with different degrees of success); but, like I said we hated Chronicles of Crime. So, any more suggestions are welcome. Looking for ideas for gifts for the holidays...

      Well at 17 and 19, I think Perspectives and Night Hunter would both be good, as long as they are up for a multi-hour experience.@@ProfessorB.

    BBG says it is the best in 3-4. Thank you for the review!

      That is good to know, but keep in mind that personally i feel almost all games are better at 2 than at higher player counts -- that's just me.

    This game has no replayability right?

    • @COOPFORTWO
      @COOPFORTWO  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Correct, once you play a case you won't ever replay it. But nothing gets destroyed so you could pass it along to another group.
